The last day of the #AtoZChallenge and A.D.’s FAV 5…..Thanks everyone!

Monday pic courtesy of www.sodahead.com

The final day of the challenge and I confess I am a little sad about it. It was a chore to post daily, I’ll be the first to admit, but oh was it fun! I came up with my A.D’s FAV 5 on a whim to make easy visitng of the log scroll for others and wow! I ended up discovering a lot of amazing people and read alot of great topics! I even walked away learning about alot of things too! I also walked away learning about some things I may have not wanted to know about :0) (One of mine-Uvula Piercings, yikes!) So for our last day on my FAV 5 I am going to check out in the 1600′s…

1. # 1671 Fab40 foibles- http://d99923192710600461.typepad.com/  Z is for Zippy. Come and learn about this little adorable character and the writers reflections of other TV characters :0)

2. #1690 Bits and Pieces- http://mosaic-margot.blogspot.com/  Margot shared a very neat project she did for her church called The River. She built (I hope not alone) a long box filled with sand to be the river where fellow members of her church can leave a pic of a loved one or place a stone with a favorite scripture in it. Then from the pics you can pick up one of those shared rocks (I assume you do put it back) and look up the verse. Very clever, what a feat Margot!

3. # 1615 Liz Cakes- http://lizczukas.blogspot.com/  Liz talks about being unmotivated in your writing. As a writer I thought her tips were sound advice and I do know many of the other A to Z bloggers are authors as well and this could benifit them too! So here you go, thanks Liz!

4. #1648 My life- http://up-n-downs-of-life.blogspot.co.uk/  Z is for Zen Meditation and a little share on how Swarna and her daughter practice this with the Wii. Funny:0)

5.# 1654 Glory’s Garden- http://glory-garden.blogspot.com/2012/04/z-is-for-zoomin.html#more  Glory’s topic is Z for Zoomin and this was a perfect end the the AtoZ challenge shares! Really liked this one…

Bonus #1621 Woman never sleeps- http://womanneversleeps.wordpress.com/  Bri shared a post about a song by Olivia newton John…called  Xanadu  Come watch the video (I just loved Olivia–remember Let’s get Physical-imagine me 8 dancing to it :0)

Sorry this came out late guys, had an unexpected jet off on an errand and had to stop in the middle ;0) so here it is, a little late but still great!

Have a wonderful Monday and hey at least you can browse this during lunch, yay!

P.S. Check back May 7th for the refelections post!

It’s April 30th and the last day of the #AtoZChallenge..Z is for Zits & Proactive…Justin Bieber?

I have seen the commercials for Proactive many of times, have I tried it? No. Do I need to? Yes. I unfortunately never grew out of my teen zit years…it’s very sad really. I need Proactive and shall have to finally join up with the Proactive craze and purchase it. There is however a hitch…Justin Bieber :0) If I order this, will this young man show up at my door? If he does should I scream like all the other girls do? :0) No I’m being silly…yes if he did I would scream, but that would be because I would probably look like a mess and my house would probably not be ready for company. “Justin, would you mind staying outside here?” or “Hold on, come back in five minutes….”

Ok had my fun…I am not a fan of the young man, sometimes his behavior rubs me the wrong way, but he’s ok to me. Doing this is amazing. A pretty brave thing to go on there and confess your not perfect to your adoring fans and then to visit the doorsteps of  a few of them toting the bag of the stuff. So he gets some kuddos there.  Go Bieber!  So with all that said ,would love some comments. About the Bieber or the product Proactive. HAve you tried it? Do you like it? The pros and the cons…

Wanna order yourself some or check out more about this young man and his team up with Proactive? Just click here : http://justin.proactiv.com/

Now onto more important matters, like it’s the final day of the A to Z Challenge! BOO HOO!!  I have had a wonderful run with this challenge, this was my first year and now I can guarantee you, it shall not be my last! I had alot of fun coming up with challenges based on the letter of the day and meeting all the wonderful people participating in this challenge as well. Alot of great blogs out there  with so many amazing topics! I started the A.D’s FAV 5 on a whim and it turned out to be super fun as well as something enjoyed by others. I picked up a few followers and am now following a ton of other blogs. Great blogs. I thank everyone for dropping by my little ol’ blog each day and appreciate your comments as well. Hope to see you next year in the challenge! Have a wonderful summer (ok I know it’s not offically here, but hey I’m in FL)!

Sincerly yours,

She’s Alive! April 28th, Day 28 of the #AtoZChallenge! Y is for Yard Sales…A.D.’s Tips

She’s Alive! Yes I am actually way late on my post and haven’t even touched the A.D.’s FAV 5 of the day! I confess, I slept in…guilty! Oh but did I need it! My little brain was just pooped! (Well it’s not really little, I do have a big head, but if I said big brain…well I don’t want a swelled head!) Ha, Ha, Ha….oh come on it was kind of funny! “Keep your day job A.D.” you say lovingly. Ok I say. So the topic is Y is for Yard Sales!

Pic courtesy of the www.thedailyrash.com

I just love Yard sales, Grarage sales, Estate sales, any sale! Just love it! I’ve gone to yard sales since I can remember (young!) My mother even taught me how to barter. I’m really good at it too:0) Two summers ago I was yard sale hopping  avidly and had brough my Grandma along a lot. She is afraid of bartering, but no worries grandma! I was there. Her best buy was a sewing machine with all the bells and whistles for 1/3 of its original price! remember my grandma sews and it was time for a new machine and every time she is on that thing she relishes in her memories of that great find! That is the big thing about doing this…id finding those great finds, those treasures! My house is decorated  in a lot of treasures I have found at yard sales. Pretty shabby chic!

You know what they say “someone else’s trash is someone’s treasure!” Well ok just so you know there is no trash hanging on my walls, it’s just a saying :0) You hop in your car (mine is a mini van) you bring the kids or not…I bring some of mine and your off! You keep your eyes peeled (or you’ve already have plan route via circling ads in the paper/craigslist) and you find those wonderful beacons (ok signs) to direct you to those treasures! Some yard sales may be duds to you, but sometimes, no a lot of time you hit the jack pot! Finding the mother load is a rarity, but it does happen. I had one of those once…oh memories!

Bartering

Some people have not a problem, but some its a little intimidating. I started out that way too, so no worries! Just remind yourself the worst thing they will do is say NO. Now $50 dollars isn’t always spent at sales unless you are buying furniture and that is a deal…almost a steal!  Most prices range from 50 cents to five bucks on average. Here is a scenario for ya:

Your shopping your yard sale and you find oh…some jeans for your kid. The price sticker on them is $1.50 each…when you’re ready to pay for them (you have 4, let’s just say) ask the one in charge “hey would you take $1 each pair?” They in turn can either say YES or NO. If it’s yes, well then! You’ve saved $2! If they say no, then you have to decide if you still want to purchase them. I would if they are in great shape, because think of the cost in the store. That is still a deal, but trying to get a better one is worth the try. Don’t be afraid to, remember the worst they will do is say No. They’re not gonna beat you or snatch your treasures out of your hands and point you to be on your way. No, they are trying to get rid of their stuff. Most yard salees price up their items because they know some will try to barter down. Bartering comes with this territory. So you are not the first to ask them for a mark down or the last.

So if you’ve never tried Yard sales, you should, they are fun and you do find some amazing treasures! I’ve even met some really amazing people. Imagine the stories that come with the treasures I bring home. Try it once at least…trust me you’ll get addicted…it is addicting :0)

Have a wonderful Saturday and it’s not to late to go to those sales, just so you know!

A.D.

April 27th, Day 27 of the #AtoZChallenge- A.D.’s FAV 5 time!!

Pitcure is courtesy of  http://www.pictures88.com

TGIF everybody! I am feeling good this Friday morning and am hoping this is a great sign of how my day is gonna play out! I think today I will hang around in the 500′s of the AtoZ Challenge scroll…so let’s see what marvelous posts we find today!

1. #506- Ella’s Edge- http://ellasedge.blogspot.com/  Ella is feeling rather exhausted for her X topic today….yes it does start with an E, but there is an X and hey let’s cut the gal some slack, cause she is eXhausted! A entertaining share with a funny pic to go along with it!

2. #519 Carole Anna Carr (The Adventures of a Children’s author)-http://caroleannecarr.blogspot.com/  I just love Carole’s graphics on her page (an alice theme) and as a newly self-published children’s book author myself, I was drawn by the title:0) Carole has some really nice recomends under topics of some really great Children’s book reads…if you have some young gal or guy who’s needing some suggestions, Carole’s blog is the place!

3. #545 Cutest Landing-http://cutestlanding.blogspot.com/  Sara shared a very interesting post for her U topic, it was corsets. The misconceptions of them in romance novels. I recall Gone with the Wind and hearing about the actress Vivian Lee who played Scarlett actually had a 14 inch waist…really she did! I do not have a 14 inch waist and nor do I want to aim for one. I have to agree with Sara, wearing corsets are not all they are cracked up to be…

4. #559 Encouter with a super star-http://joezachs.blogspot.in/  Come read and learn about actor/director Richard Attenborough , you know Santa on Miracle on 34th street or John Hammond in Jurrasic Park….a very facinating man…

5. #575 Keeping up with the Pickles-http://the-pickles.blogspot.com/  Wendy shared some tidbits about her and finished her post with a very adorable pic of her daughter…have a look and get to know Wendy :0)

Bonus #593 Confessions & thought of a teenage dreamer- http://insidethemindofmelissajanet.blogspot.com/  Melissa seems to be a gal with a good head on her shoulders. Her topic is the letter O is for Outspoken…I thought it was a nice share and had to include this lovely gal’ s post in my FAV’s.

So there you have it, a very interesting mix for my FAV 5! I hope you all have a glorious Friday and enjoy your upcoming Weekend! If your following my FAV 5, I’ll see you tomorrow!

April 27th, Day 27 and we are on X is for Xenology…what?

Alien pic courtesy of wikipedia- and alien protest (http://bit.ly/IIOEqV)

Xenology- does mean the study of the relationship between parasites and their hosts, but this is not the Xenology I am talking about. This is the one: Xenology- (chiefly in sci-fi) The scientific study of extraterrestrials, esp. their biology. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/xenology)

Xenology,  the xeno-based terminology was first coined for this usage by the renowned science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein (starting in The Star Beast, Scribner, New York, 1954

Xenobiology- is the study of alien lifeforms.

Aliens have always been a fascination to many, so why wouldn’t it be incorporated into the realm of sci-fy? Life beyond Earth is a strong possibility and what is out there is the biggest question. There are so many theories and so little facts. Aliens have been pictured in so many forms, what exactly would one look like is still a puzzle to us. Aliens in sci-fi, I would think the sky is not the limit there. If there is a term to a study, the item has been studied. I am sure aliens and alien life have been studied to the extreme in deed!

The unknown is always a fascination as well as a fear. Not knowing has sent many to frightening levels of fear (remember Orson Wells’- War of the worlds broadcast?) and have sent others to levels of imagination. Did you know there are about 25,000 sci-fy books in the Amazon Kindle Genre alone? I typed Alien and it narrowed it down to 1300 with alien in the description alone…I bet there is more. Movies, we all know Aliens, Predator, how about recently War of the Worlds or even Aliens vs. Cowboys. What a combo that one was! Signs…oh my goodness!

I am sure if you check the TV guide and find something on Alien life or crop circles broadcasting right about now or  just about to. Aliens are they real or are they not?  We don’t know and this is why we study about them. Why we are fascinated by them and sometimes even obsessed.  Xenology and Xenobiology is quite a study…you google it and you will find a lot under those two terms alone. Two articles and by the same man I might add, seemed tobe to be very factual and wow, interesting! It’s long ,so I am doing you a favor of simply posting the links. It is interesting and something to chomp on. Alien life outside of Earth very well could just be in Superman form, or the Green Lanterns or even just a Mega Mind…let’s hope, they’re not so scary. Until we know the truth, or according to X-files…allow ourselves to see the truth is out there…we shall remain ignorant and happy being that way. (I secretly am) Still it never hurts to study up…

Now an even scarier thought, how much does a xenobiologist make? And is there a large demand for them?

Xenobiology-according to Robert A. Freitas Jr- http://www.xenology.info/Papers/Xenobiology.htm

Extraterrestrial Zoology (xenology) according to Robert A. Freitas Jr- http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_alien/xenology/papers_xeno/et_zoology.htm

Some Alien books- http://amzn.to/JKp2Lk

Orson Wells -War of the Worlds info: http://bit.ly/ayYC6Y

Happy A to Z Blogging and Alien studying,

A.D.

P.S. Remember if your still scared there is always the MIB. I am sure Will Smith has got our backs :0)

April 26th, Day 26 of the #AtoZChallenge- W is for What if?

Photo courtesy of -http://whilethekidsaresleeping.wordpress.com  check out this great blog!

What if I had tried that? What would that have been like? What if I had done that… What if?  I hate wondering what if and try very hard in avoiding it. In my teens I was constantly wondering what if about joining the Army. What if I can’t make it? What if I’m not tough enough…What if I didn’t and what if I never knew because I had never tried.  I joined and succeeded and was glad that I did. What if I tried building my own bench? I wondered one day, so I tried it… and it turned out completely horrible, oh it was ugly and it was an awful experience! Men make that look so easy… but the great thing was,I didn’t  have to wonder what if anymore! I had tried it and had failed at it, but I was still  successful because I had tried it.

I wondered one day  if I could paint something like a painting I had seen? I thought I could and wanted to try, so I did.  It was Folk ARt, looked pretty and guess what? I found out ( after some  practice), I wasn’t too bad and I liked it! In fact I even sold many of my  paintings! If my paintings had turned out to be horrible, that I had found out that painting wasn’t my thing, the great thing was, at least I would never have to wonder what if. And that was the point. Not to wonder and to try.

I have tried (all safe mind you) many things in my life so far and many of those things I tried, I found out I couldn’t do or failed miserably at trying to do it. And many I found out I could and was very successful at it!  Wondering what if about things was something I didn’t want to plaque me ever  in my life.  I didn’t want to find myself years from now, older, relaxing in my rocking chair on the front porch and wondering “what if…”

You will not always succeed in what you try, but remember you are still succeeding regardless. The success was, you learned wether or not you could.  You now learned if it was something you liked or something you didn’t.  You Know. and are now no longer wondering What if? Never let fear drive you away from those what if’s…unless it has anything that goes against SAFTEY FIRST! I must encourage saftey in what you try.( I will never stand up and be an advocate for unsafe things. :0)

You would be amazed at how talented or how creative or how amazing you are at things after giving them a try. Things you never thought you could do or even was your thing. It’s been said everyone has a talent. At least one. I agree, but I also believe we do have more than just one.  We just don’t know that  because we’ve never tired. So if your contemplating or wondering What if? Try it. You just may suprise yourself!

Have a wonderful Thursday and a wonderful time defeating those What if’s…

A.D.

April 25th, Day 25 of the #AtoZChallenge and V is for Voice…The Voice that is

The Voice

Yes I know officially it doesn’t start with a T, but there is a V and let’s just let it slide, ok? :0) Pretty please? Aww… Thank you, Whew! So here’s the jist of it - The voice hosted by Carson Daly and consits of four famous musicians ( Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo,Adam Levine & Blake Shelton), search for the best voices in America and  mentor these singers to become artists. America  decides which singer will be worthy of the grand prize- being crowned The Voice.

How does The Voice work? Here’s the layout:

1. The Live Rounds begin with 24 artists who have moved on from the Battle Rounds, six on each coach’s team.

2. Each week, artists perform live and your vote helps decide who will move to the next round of competition

3.In the finale, only four artists remain – and your vote determines who will crowned The Voice!

There are the Blind auditions, the Battle rounds and then America votes.

Now the Details:

At the Blind Auditions, artists across the country appear at the open casting calls, the best of them are then invited to the Blind Auditions in L.A. From there they build a team selection, coaches,  Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine each have to recruit a team of 12 artists. How it works is the coaches listen to just the artist’s voice (chairs turned around) and if the coach likes the singer, they push their button and it turns their chair around, revealing the artist to them. If more than one coach turns around, the artist then chooses which coach he or she most wants to work with. If only one turns, the singer automatically is on their team.

For the Battle rounds, which lasts over four weeks. Each coach must reduce his or her team from twelve artists to six by battling them against each other. After watching their duos perform, each coach then chooses who will move on to the live rounds. In the Live Rounds, America then gets to vote. The Live Rounds begin with  24 artistswho have moved on from the Battle Rounds. There are six on each coach’s team.  Each week, the  artists perform live and our votes help decide who moves on to  the next round of competition. In the end, the finale, only four artists remain and America’s vote (meaning us) determines who will be crowned The Voice!

Sounds pretty cool doesn’t it! Who’s team are you on? Are you a fan? I admit, I have not watched this season, but that is  a yet… thanks to the wonderful On Demand, I will be. Just focusing on American Idol  (uh-oh, do I hear The Voice police? ) right now :0) So… The voice is the big hype and now with Smash behind it, it seems NBC isn’t doing to shabby. So share your thoughts and opinions, would love to hear them!

Haven’t jumped on The Voice wagon yet…no worries you can start now… The Voice is still going and airs on Mondays 8/7c & Tuesdays9/8c on NBC (Channel 4 in L.A. and in FL its Channel 11- its one of the top 13 channels :0)

Happy Wedensday and Happy singing with The Voice,

A.D.
