She’s Alive! April 28th, Day 28 of the #AtoZChallenge! Y is for Yard Sales…A.D.’s Tips
She’s Alive! Yes I am actually way late on my post and haven’t even touched the A.D.’s FAV 5 of the day! I confess, I slept in…guilty! Oh but did I need it! My little brain was just pooped! (Well it’s not really little, I do have a big head, but if I said big brain…well I don’t want a swelled head!) Ha, Ha, Ha….oh come on it was kind of funny! “Keep your day job A.D.” you say lovingly. Ok I say. So the topic is Y is for Yard Sales!

I just love Yard sales, Grarage sales, Estate sales, any sale! Just love it! I’ve gone to yard sales since I can remember (young!) My mother even taught me how to barter. I’m really good at it too:0) Two summers ago I was yard sale hopping avidly and had brough my Grandma along a lot. She is afraid of bartering, but no worries grandma! I was there. Her best buy was a sewing machine with all the bells and whistles for 1/3 of its original price! remember my grandma sews and it was time for a new machine and every time she is on that thing she relishes in her memories of that great find! That is the big thing about doing this…id finding those great finds, those treasures! My house is decorated in a lot of treasures I have found at yard sales. Pretty shabby chic!
You know what they say “someone else’s trash is someone’s treasure!” Well ok just so you know there is no trash hanging on my walls, it’s just a saying :0) You hop in your car (mine is a mini van) you bring the kids or not…I bring some of mine and your off! You keep your eyes peeled (or you’ve already have plan route via circling ads in the paper/craigslist) and you find those wonderful beacons (ok signs) to direct you to those treasures! Some yard sales may be duds to you, but sometimes, no a lot of time you hit the jack pot! Finding the mother load is a rarity, but it does happen. I had one of those once…oh memories!
Bartering
Some people have not a problem, but some its a little intimidating. I started out that way too, so no worries! Just remind yourself the worst thing they will do is say NO. Now $50 dollars isn’t always spent at sales unless you are buying furniture and that is a deal…almost a steal! Most prices range from 50 cents to five bucks on average. Here is a scenario for ya:
Your shopping your yard sale and you find oh…some jeans for your kid. The price sticker on them is $1.50 each…when you’re ready to pay for them (you have 4, let’s just say) ask the one in charge “hey would you take $1 each pair?” They in turn can either say YES or NO. If it’s yes, well then! You’ve saved $2! If they say no, then you have to decide if you still want to purchase them. I would if they are in great shape, because think of the cost in the store. That is still a deal, but trying to get a better one is worth the try. Don’t be afraid to, remember the worst they will do is say No. They’re not gonna beat you or snatch your treasures out of your hands and point you to be on your way. No, they are trying to get rid of their stuff. Most yard salees price up their items because they know some will try to barter down. Bartering comes with this territory. So you are not the first to ask them for a mark down or the last.
So if you’ve never tried Yard sales, you should, they are fun and you do find some amazing treasures! I’ve even met some really amazing people. Imagine the stories that come with the treasures I bring home. Try it once at least…trust me you’ll get addicted…it is addicting :0)
Have a wonderful Saturday and it’s not to late to go to those sales, just so you know!
