New Releases Jan. 20-26 and Reader’s Choice C*ntest
Another slow week of releases…but really, do you need more than two words? EVER AFTER. Enough said. I’ll have a review up next week with a giveaway, so you have two chances at winning a copy--this week and next week. And yeah, it’s really awesome. I finished it last night and am DYING to talk to somebody about it!
What do you want to read? As always, leave a comment telling me the book you’d most like to win, and maybe random.org will make your wishes come true. Your choice of pri...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Behind the Scenes with the Mermen of River Road:
Read on, of course, for the weekly winners. And a quick preview: I just finished the new Kim Harrison Hollows book, Ever After, and will have a review on Thursday with a giveaway (and you can also win it in this week's Reader's Choice Contest tomorrow). And Linda Robertson will be here this week with a special guest post to celebrate the upcoming release of Shattered Circle, her new Persephone Alcmedi novel. On Wednesday, I'll be asking for some input into a new writing project I have coming...

Readers Write: Review & G*veaway, THE HALLOWED ONES by Laura Bickle
Today for “Readers Write.,” I’m welcoming guest reviewer Carien , who’s sharing a review of The Hallowed Ones, first in a new YA series from Laura Bickle that was released last September. I’m familiar with Laura’s adult series, but this is a new book to me and it looks interesting. I’m fascinated with the Amish culture anyway, so when it’s used in a thriller YA with some sinister overtones? Bring it on!
Read on for Carien’s review and a chance to win this book or your choice of ano...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Readers Write: Review & G*veaway, THE RISE OF RANSOM CITY by Felix Gilman
Today for “Readers Write.,” I’m welcoming guest reviewer Becky from the great No More Grumpy Bookseller blog, who’s sharing a review of Rise of Ransom City, the followup to Felix Gilman’s steampunk (or Weird West) debut The Half-Made World, which I reviewed last year as the first the Line and the Gun series.
Read on for Becky’s review and a chance to win this book or the first in the series.

Shop-Talk: Brick and Mortar, Online, and Me
An interesting article came across my desk last week that got me thinking about bookstores—I mean physical bookstores, as opposed to online merchants—and how what I say and how I behave often don't intersect. Here's the article, which is basically predicting the demise of B&N and other big-box bookstores (well, I guess Books-a-Million is the only other one left now?).
The Slow Death of Barnes and Noble
First, a disclaimer. I don’t own a bookstore. I don’t personall...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

New Releases Jan. 13-19 and Reader’s Choice C*ntest
Yawn. There isn’t a big selection of new releases this week, although some interesting choices for YA readers. I guess if I picked one, I’d choose…the James Blaylock book, which sounds suitably creepy. And it has pirates. Pirates are always good, right?
What do you want to read? As always, leave a comment telling me the book you’d most like to win, and maybe random.org will make your wishes come true. Your choice of print or digital unless otherwise stated. International? Of cours...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Behind the Scenes with River Road (and Weekly W*nners)
Since I can't run a scene snippet from Elysian Fields every week between now and August without running the whole book, time to do some more annotations from River Road--some background, behind-the-scenes info, and things that almost happened, but didn't.
Also, if you'd like a free read, I have the first chapter of the upcoming Susannah Sandlin release, Omega, online today.
At the end, look for two weeks' worth of winners. My day job has become kind of a soap opera, so everything is in disarray...

Retro Review & G*veaway: A PERFECT BLOOD by Kim Harrison
Welcome to a “retro review”—taking a look at a book that’s not a new release but deserves a re-visit. I’m currently reading Ever After, the new book in Kim Harrison’s Hollows series (which will be released on Jan. 22), so in preparation for it I first re-read book ten, A Perfect Blood.
ABOUT A PERFECT BLOOD: Ritually murdered corpses are appearing across Cincinnati, terrifying amalgams of human and other. Pulled in to help investigate by the I.S. and FIB, former...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>
