Dick Award as well as the Aurealis Award for best science fiction novel. I love good sci-fi, and this one sounds terrific.
There’s a giveaway at the end, so read on.

Shop-Talk: Standalones, Trilogies, and Series

I guess it’s no secret that authors love series, and love them for practical reasons—the chance to more fully explore a world and a set of characters, and the fact that when an author sells a series to a publisher, there are multiple book sales involved. Much more comforting to one’s career than selling standalone books one at a time.
(Sure, if you’re Stephen King or Nora Roberts, you can just sell X number of unspecified books, but most authors can’t do that. There’s a process of...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

New Releases Jan. 1-12 and Reader’s Choice C*ntest

We’re getting caught up with the new releases this week, so a few more choices than we’d usually have, although January’s a pretty light release month. But see what you can find! (And if you missed yesterday’s cover reveal for my third Sentinels book, Elysian Fields (August 2013), you can still see it on my website. Also, with the cover reveal yesterday, I didn't announce last week's winners, so I'll post those later today! (Remember, the giveaway of the signed ARC of Cecy Robson...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

COVER REVEAL: Elysian Fields by Suzanne Johnson

So, how many of you guessed what the surprise was? (If you're a Facebook friend or follower you got the sneak preview, so your guess doesn't count!)

So DJ's flashing the cleavage and hanging out in creepy old New Orleans Six Flags, which has been standing abandoned after sitting under eight or ten feet of floodwater after Katrina seven years ago. It's a major setting for Elysian Fields, book three in the Sentinels of New Orleans series, and a totally creepy setting deserves a somewhat creepy c...

Shop-Talk: Young Adults, New Adults…and Adults

One of my critique partners is a dedicated reader of Young Adult fiction. I mean as in, reads nothing else. Thanks to her, I’ve read far more YA in the past two or three years than I would have thought possible. Finally, about six months ago, I reached saturation point. I thought if I saw one more sixteen- or seventeen-year-old heroine who discovered magical powers and a new mysterious boy in school with whom she must join forces in order to save the world….I would scream. And ye...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Preternatura—Looking Forward, Looking Back

Holy cow—is it already 2013? Happy New Year!
Seems like the New Year is always a good time to look back—and to look forward. As I mentioned earlier this month, I wanted to make some changes to the blog and I appreciate everyone’s input. This week, you’ll start seeing some of those changes in place, and more will occur as the month goes on.
First, it was hard for folks (including me) to keep up with the book club idea, so the Preternatura Book Club has been officially l...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>
