Saturday Sinema #21 - The Witch

Based on the novel Aura by Carlos Fuentes, this rarely seen 1966 gem from director Damiano Damiani serves as a warning to any fool who would let his heart or his trousers lead him along the path of life. Poor bastard Richard Johnson literally stumbles into a new gig; he's hired to arrange and restore a dusty, crumbling library for some rich old harpy. At first he's not too sure about all this, but then he gets a look at Aura, the old lady's beautiful daughter, and then, well, fucking forget about it. He's hooked, and all he can think about is getting some poontang. Once he's on the line, the old lady and her daughter spend the next 80 minutes fucking with his mind and pulling his strings. Pretty soon he learns the lesson every man eventually learns; the only difference between a witch and a bitch is a single letter.

Isabelle Adjani's marriage is on the rocks. She's stepped out on her husband with a vaguely gay New Age-y German black belt, but even he doesn't seem to completely float her boat. So she decides to fuck an octopus. Of all the crazy dames I've featured on this site, she just might be the most fucked up of all. She is truly the apex of fucked-up-ness. No amount of couples therapy is gonna crack that nut open. Those with weak sensibilities should steer clear of this one; there's lots of bodily fluids, tentacle fucking, and electric carving knife mayhem involved. And a doppelganger or two. Dig it! Yeah!

Saturday Sinema #19 - Let's Scare Jessica To Death

Jessica is one crazy bitch. Batshit crazy, in fact. I mean, she gets off on doing charcoal rubbings of tombstones, you dig? She's just come out of a relaxing stay at the local knitting factory and seems ready to join the rest of the world again. To ease her back into the groove her boyfriend and his buddy decide to take her out to the country for some much needed rest. They shack up in an old fixer-upper and make plans to grow some apples and live off the land. Trouble is Jessie's beginning to hear some trippy voices in her head. And then there's this ginger headed hippy chick hitchhiker who's latched onto their little group. And what the fuck is up with all the townies? Is everyone really trying to kill Jessica? Or is she just another fucked up broad running with the proverbial scissors? Stick around for the shocking conclusion!

Saturday Sinema #18 - Beyond The Darkness (aka Buried Alive, aka Buio Omega)

Francesco is one sick puppy. He's a taxidermist with a dead girlfriend. This is a situation poor Franco just can't get behind. What's a guy to do? Oh hey, yeah, I see it now man; let's dig her up and keep her handy! That's the ticket! When Joe D'Amato (aka Aristide Massaccesi) wasn't making hardcore porn, he was making some of the most brutal horror flicks ever to come out of Italy. Jumpin' Joe was so prolific that his filmography rivals that of the legendary Jess Franco. In this nasty little flick we get to see JJ on his best (worst) behavior. Made in 1979, this film marks the turning point from the uber groovy gialli of the 70s to the more harsh, realistic gialli of the 80s. This was sadly a period largely bereft of J&B sightings, but hey, this is D'Amato...so keep your eyes peeled. You never know....

Saturday Sinema #17 - The Perfume Of The Lady In Black

Mimsy Farmer. Where to begin? Whenever you watch a Mimsy Farmer movie you know she's going to be one completely fucked up bitch. She's like that girl you were dating in your twenties while you were busy getting your Associate's Degree in a totally lucrative field like film studies. You remember her, the one who had "issues" but you never broke up with her because she was so freaky in bed? Yeah, her. Well in this week's flick Mimsy plays that girl, seemingly functional most of the time, but just a little...off. She starts hallucinating, and has visions whenever she and her boyfriend Roberto are about to get down. What's going on here? What's her dark secret? And who is this broad in black who shows up at the most inopportune moments. Stick around for the shocking conclusion... There are few J&B sightings in this one, but you might wanna down a couple anyway. This movie will fuck with your mind. Dig it.

Saturday Sinema #16 - A Quiet Place In The Country

Franco Nero is a painter who's going absolutely batshit in the city. Everyday hassles are really bumming him out, even kinky sex games are a drag. So, his wife decides to take him out to the country for some peace and fresh air. Franco finds a pad that suits him, a big, sprawling estate with a sordid past. Is the place haunted? Or is Franco just completely bugfuck at this point? All will be revealed in this classy gem from director Elio Petri. Keep your eyes peeled; I think there may be a J&B bottle or two lurking somewhere in this one. Prosit!

Saturday Sinema #15 - Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key (aka Gently Before She Dies)

"All the imagination in the world wouldn't do you any good...if you couldn't get a hard on..." So says a very bitchy Edwige Fenech in this completely kick ass giallo from director Sergio Martino. In this one, Luigi Pistilli plays a burned out alcoholic writer who gets his kicks by mentally torturing his high-strung wife. Things really swing for Luigi until Edwige shows up and throws a wrench into the works... The bodies pile up, the J&B flows, and some naughty boots are worn (by Fenech, not Pistilli) in this giallo loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat. Fuck yeah.

Saturday Sinema #14 - Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man)

A world-weary Rupert Everett, along with his homunculus sidekick Gnaghi, runs the local cemetery. Things sail along smoothly until he sees the woman of his dreams.... Oh yeah, there's also that little problem with the zombies.... Easily the best thing Everett's ever done (shame he's keeping it off his resume in favor of that damned gorilla movie...). The director of this one is Michele Soavi, who got his start working with Lucio Fulci, Terry Gilliam, and Joe D'Amato, finally launching into full blown career trajectory after a few projects with Dario Argento. Here Soavi takes the best of all his mentors and creates something uniquely his own. This one co-stars the lovely Anna Falchi and her breasts. Enjoy!

Saturday Sinema #12 - Night Tide

A young, horny, desperate Dennis Hopper dons his finest sailor suit and hits the boardwalk, cruising for kicks. The shit really picks up when he stumbles into a swinging cellar hangout and meets Mora, an aloof sideshow mermaid....or is she really a mermaid? Chances are she's just fucked in the head, but Dennis is gonna get to the bottom of this regardless, and hopefully get laid in the process. Great early work from director Curtis Harrington. Check it out!
