10 Words That I Cannot Stand…

Fee Kalemat min asm3ha or agraha I get a mini nervous break down. 99% of people use it, like it, and think nothing of it. Keifkom of course I am just stating that these are words that get on my nerves when I encounter them.

1- 9a3roora. Otherwise known as a bump on the head. It makes me visualize a balloon filled with puss that is about to burst at any moment.

2- Na63a. I always imagine it with a smack of the lips. Ma a7ebha! 7arf el6a2 ma3a el3ain wayed ethqaal feha!

3- 3an jadd. I don't mind it much when ra'3eb 3lama sings it. I hate it o cannot stand it when its used in a Kuwaiti jomla. 7alat.ha used by ahal el sham only!

4- Fedaitik/Fedaitich. Still around, still being used, still thaqelat 6eena. Ya rait people move on to another habba word ya rait!

5- 9aba7oo. 9aba7oo shino b3d? Min a7ad ygool 9ba7oo wedi at.hawash wyah!

6- Ambaih. Especially if said by a fake daloo3a! Yobooooy!

7- Foogah. Foog what exactly? Shelle foogah b3d? Qatheetha!

8- Chillaxing. Kills me. I don't know what is it about the word that makes me go crazy but it does. Ma a7ebha!

9- Qaz Baz. A q8y name for some medical condition. I always visualize the blue gaz tank and smell H2SO4 whenever I hear it. Urgh!

10- Ta'3reeda. I want to rip my hair out whenever I listen to someone refer to a tweet by ta'3reeda or to a tweep by mo'3ared. Wayed heligiya eb9ara7a, mo eshwaya!

7asad and taking an Athar thing. Does it work?

If you follow me on instagram -3eshtaw :p- you would recognize the ring above. Its my newest very cute blue eyed ring. Some people including my Bu Tootee are scared by the ring and hate it. Others think its very cute. Well I think it is different, cute, statement maker, and perfect for warding off the evil eye. Kaifi.

The thing is I am a firm believer of envy, 7asad, evil eye. I can tell you stories where someone said something to me and immediately something bad happens to me. I believe it all boils down to energy. Evil eye is a bad energy, people have protective energy. People who gets hit by the Evil eye the most are ones with low protective energy. I believe certain sura's from the Quran work by strengthening the protective energy around a person. These are my beliefs anyways.

Some say if a person is hit by 3ain "evil envy energy" one way to ward it off is to take something from that person "min atharah"… an unfinished cup of water for example. Then give it to the victim after doing something to it -reading qur2an maybe?- and the victim shall recover. I am not sure exactly how accurate is that, or what exactly do you do to the "athar" thing.

So I am asking you, what exactly do you do for 3ain min athar the person, o does it really work? Have you tried it before o it actually worked? I have heard two stories from two people I trust and both swear by it but I am still skeptical…

A drive in Mecca Street

One of the things we enjoy doing is taking long car drives, exploring new things and finding absurd things. Last weekend after breakfast in Ayyame in the Village we drove around f7a7eel and Mahboula and reached the famouse Mecca street which is equivalent to share3 el ma6a3em in Salmiya. I saw many interesting things o thought of sharing them with you. Enjoy :D

Very long name for a baqala!

A big saloon has this very beautiful made up lady as an ad. If I was an MP I would ban such pictures from being shown, ra2fatan b7al el nass!

If you love this look let me know and I will give you the name of the saloon :p

Another saloon… queen of Africa!

9ootik we9al cafe. Bu Kharshad shakhbarah chinna ekhtefa?

Arth el ma3raka. I sincerely hope its like Salmiya's Arena and nothing else like ne3el o syoof or something.

El fara'3 o 3arafnaha. Walaw inah its debatable. Why is 7arf el'3ain wrapped around a laptop ballah? Haven't they heard that the Holy Quran is now available on laptops o that ako one million Islamic websites all over the net? God I hate those ads!

I have more… stay tuned :p

Shino '3adakom Elyoom?

Its officially cold, its almost noon, and my freezing stomach wants some warm comfort food! Thursday is here and the long 3 day weekend is about to start! What are you planning for lunch? Eating in the office? Bel zwara? At home? Skipping lunch? in the Chalet? Outside somewhere?

So let me ask you the eternal daily q8y question: 'Shino '3adakom?' I am craving soft soft soft bubbling hot pizza Qay9ar freshly baked and just out of the oven. I want to sit in my car, cradle the warm box and feel its heat burn my lap, open the lid and breathe in the powdery doughy cheesy distinctive aroma of Pizza Qay9ar. I want to extend my hand and choose the gooeist, messiest looking pizza slathered with sauce and cheese, lift it up gingerly, and stuff the entire thing in my mouth! Ahhh pizza Qay9ar, soft spicy tangy pizza Qay9ar… ako a7la min pizza Qay9ar eb hal bard?

P.S. The best pizza Qay9ar is made in their Qurtoba branch. Don't go anywhere else, just don't bother. Either eat it right or don't.

Shino '3adakom?

Danderma is on Instagram

I have finally put down Steve Jobs biography yesterday at 7 P.M. I sat up for a moment, then went to put on my 7ejab and my favorite white crocs and headed out the door to iCity.

I got me an iPad 2 and was this close to getting an iPhone and an iMac. Only I realized paying a 1000 KD in one night probably wasn't a very smart move. I took the iPad home, marveled at its minimalist modern beauty, and started using it until the wee hours of morning.

Now I am on Instagram and it was so so SO MUCH FUN and easy to use! Follow me at Danderma! I only have 19 followers w3liya :(

I also would like to say that the late Mr. Jobs and I share so many things in common. His picky vegan diets -I am a vegetarian- his inability to stand formal meetings and powerpoint slides -they make me itch, get to the point- his intolerance to stupidity and not liking to waste time with things with no potential. His fast paced intuitive decisions is something I truly understand. If it feels right I do it, if its not I don't. His love for minimalist modern sleek designs. His mood swings. All like me.

What I used to consider as a flaw in my personality, my short tempers when faced with stupidity and my rash decision making and inability to prolong decisions until I dissect every aspect, all are key features of a man, a perfectionist, who changed the world as we know it. I have come to accept my "flaws" now. No one is perfect, you cannot change who you are and hide away from it. Embrace yourself and let the bad traits drive you to benefit people. I suppose anyways…

So in any case, I am a late Apple bloomer and I am on Instagram :D Find Danderma, find me!

The Newly Re-Opened Chocolate Bar Al Bida'a

Chocolate Bar is one of my ever favorite hangouts in Kuwait. Many don't know this fact but I must confess that many Dathra episodes and Dathra book editing had taken place while sitting alone in Chocolate Bar. My me time is a day a week when I go to Chocolate Bar on my own with my laptop, order my usual, and lose myself for hours in the great weather outdoors and lip smacking food.

When Chocolate Bar Al-Bide3 in Arjan Complex closed down for renovations I was afraid they've decided to move out completely. Its been closed since August and finally they've reopened this week. Guess what? I received a DM from Chocolate Bar on twitter asking me to pass by their newly reopened branch on Sunday and I happily complied. Any excuse to visit the Chocolate Bar is fine by me :p

We arrived a bit late in the evening, almost ten pm on a Sunday night and to our astonishment there was a waiting list for an outdoors table! Don't blame people though I personally love Al-Arjan's cosy outdoors seating and insisted on sitting outside to watch cars and people pass by.

Amazing cold weather, red bricks, warm lighting calls for… Hot Chocolate! And where to indulge in an amazing "SKINNY" hot chocolate other than the Chocolate Bar?

My personal favorite is the Spanish Hot Chocolate, Bu Toote's is the Mexican one. The French Hot Chocolate which is to much fun to assemble :p

Mmmmm

On my good non dieting days I would have indulged in a Raspberry Milk Chocolate Molten cake. Oh well

Or their signature chocolate fondue! I wonder how many fondues are consumed on daily basis in Kuwait from the Chocolate Bar?

After getting the sugar overdose I went inside to take pictures of the new interior. A task that proved very difficult given that the place was chock full of people who began staring at me maliciously when I started snapping! I had to do it quickly and discard many of my pictures 7safa :( But here is what I had managed to snap…

I am truly happy that the Bidaa branch has reopened as its one of my favorites and the closest to my home. Congratulations chocolate bar and hopefully your next branch would be a franchise in London :D
