CLAIMING THE SHE-WOLF

a Black Hills Wolves story

by Louisa Bacio

Claiming the She-wolfWhen her older brother leaves the Black Hills to go to college, Tala Graystone stays behind, determined to restore their dilapidated home into a B&B for the pack. As more people return to the area, the need for temporary housing increases. Now, if only she can find someone to help with the heavy lifting.

Yas Collins fled Los Lobos as a child with his mother. As he struggles with his wolf and overpowering shifts, a desire for nature and the forest strikes hard. Black Hills, South Dakota, beckons him. With a background in construction, he easily finds work at Tala’s dilapidated B&B, but not everyone in town greets him with open arms.

As the remodel gets underway, Tala and Yas fight their growing attraction. Yas doesn’t trust his wolf urges around beautiful B&B owner. The she-wolf, however, has other plans.

A growl from low in his throat threatened to escape. The rumble started in his chest, and he fought to keep it down.

She turned, looking down at him. “Did you say something?”

“Umm, no. Just clearing my throat.”

He needed to get his base instincts under control. Recent research showed that wolves in the wild killed in order to protect their domains and to get more space. He didn’t want to be ruled by his wolf. He’d grown up in the city, with humans, not out in the forest. His mom had tried to talk to him about shifting, but as a woman, she didn’t have the same experience.

He couldn’t go to a shifters anonymous group for help with his sexual urges. Maybe he needed to start his own support group. He snorted at the idea. At the top of the landing, Tala turned to the right, and he followed.

They entered what had to be the master bedroom suite. It was painted a vibrant lavender color, and the bed had a green floral comforter with an abundance of fluffy throw pillows. White dollies rested on the two nightstands, and a vase of wildflowers called for attention. The feminine room seemed in sharp contrast to his host. She didn’t look frilly.

“This will be your quarters.” Her lips pursed, and she blinked a few times.

The idea shocked him. “What? I’m sorry, but it looks like your room.”

“Well, it has been. But it’s the nicest room in the house, and as a guest, figure you should have it to be comfortable. I’ll move my things into another one.”

He waved his hands in front of him, as if shooing away something physically bad. “No way. No can do. Give me the second best, then. My first job can be fixing it up.”

She smiled. “Well, second best would be my brother’s room, and even though he’s on a trip right now, I don’t feel comfortable moving his stuff. So third best, and we work today to make it more, um, livable?”

Her choice of words made him pause. “Deal.”

Mid Week Tease: “Touch and taste and…. Oh, God!” #MWTease #scifi #erotic

Get teased, titillated, and tantalized with this week's Mid Week Tease

Happy Wednesday! Welcome to my first Mid Week Tease post! Mid Week Tease is an author meme started and hosted by author Sandra Bunino, where authors share snippets from their recent releases, back list titles, and works-in-progress (WIPs). So, please check out my tease and visit the other participating authors listed below.

For today’s post, I’m going to share an excerpt from TAKEN BY THE BILLIONAIRE ALIEN NEXT DOOR, which is with two of my critique partners this week. Enjoy!

Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door by Jessica E. Subject

I spotted a guy who could be my stepbrother. Only he had dark hair, and stood naked save for a pair of tight silver shorts. Skin, the color of golden honey, covered wave upon wave of tight muscle. A flash of warmth washed over me as I imagined licking the guy all over, going down on my knees in front of him to find out if he tasted as sweet as he looked.

Sure, I shouldn’t fantasize about a stranger, but I couldn’t help myself. Barron wasn’t around, and the guy was hot. A god compared to the strung-out sleazebags I had to choose from in high school. Maybe I was craving some attention since it was my birthday. As of that day, I was legal to drink, vote, and everything in between in every state. Yet, I spent it by myself, my friends spending their summer working or taking care of their brand new babies.

But, I wouldn’t have to be alone if I approached the eye candy in front of me and ripped off his tight shorts, found out what he tried to hide underneath. Touch and taste and…. Oh, God! I crossed my legs, trying to ignore the throbbing of my pussy.

I sucked in a deep breath, looking to gain control over my body. Was the guy in front of me Laken? And if so, where was Barron? Changing my focus, I glanced beyond the guy’s luscious body to see what he was doing.

With delicate movements, he traced patterns across the piece of steel in front of him, part of a… a….

I stared, unable to move. I think my heart paused for a beat or two while my mind tried to digest the large object in the center of the room.

I hope you enjoyed this excerpt. The story will be heading to my editor next week, so hopefully I will have a release date soon.

Blurb:

Living on the other side of the tracks was a fantasy Erika never expected to come true. But when her mother marries an investment banker, she moves to a home larger than all her previous houses combined. While searching for her new stepbrother to help with unpacking, she stumbles upon his smokin’ hot neighbor, all alone in his mansion and busy at work on a… flying saucer? Can Erika escape before he notices her, or will she be abducted by the sexy alien?

Be sure to visit the other Mid Week Tease participating authors…

blog space excerpt

She surprised him by finding the right pressure without his input. One could almost think she’d done this before. Of course she hadn’t, yet she knew exactly which areas needed the most attention, which ones the lightest touch.

Eyes closed, he tried to pretend Master touched him. Didn’t work. Her hands and touch were too different. The pain in his shoulders eased, but the ache in his heart grew. He missed being touched and held by someone who saw him as real.

Removing the restrictions didn’t mean she saw him as real. It was progress, sure, but not enough reason to give in to his craving for a cascade. Too much of his soul was already gone. Stolen from him, while he was helpless. Nothing more than a number in a computer system.

He shouldn’t want it as bad as he did. Definitely not from her. Giving just anyone such control of him was a stupid thing to do. Especially someone he barely knew. No matter how nice she was.

But oh it felt good. So good. He let his head fall forward. Her hands kept working their magic on his muscles, massaging the oil into the ink across his shoulders, down his upper arms, back up again.

He should ask her to stop now. Break contact, go find Pete. Just another minute or two.

Hell, who was he kidding? Another minute or two would trigger a cascade. Pull away. Now.

Tingling started in his fingers. His body screamed at him to stay still, let her bring it to fruition, erase the pain for a few blessed minutes.

But his soul . . . his soul said run. And never stop. He didn’t have to give in. Didn’t have to let her take control of him like this. His body was his again. Not a stranger’s playground.

Breath caught in his throat and he scooted out of her reach. “Thank you.” He stood, swiped the bottle, and retreated to his room. Though it had no door, it still offered more privacy than staying on the floor between her knees. Muscles quivering, he leaned against the wall to the right of the door, where she couldn’t see him.

His eyes slid closed, breath coming hard and fast. The first tingles only made him want it more. No! He would not give in, would not seek her out. Not like this. He’d never be satisfied with only a physical relationship. Not after twenty years of sharing every part of his life with Master, and Master sharing every part of his in return.

He didn’t just miss sex and cascades and exploring new sensations. He missed the intimate connection of another person knowing his every thought without asking, knowing exactly what he needed before he knew it, knowing when to hold him and when to get him to talk.

That’s what he missed. That’s what he wanted. But he didn’t yet want it with her. Unless he did, this was as far as physical could ever go. No way did he trust himself to stop, knowing what waited for him.

The door chimed. Willa and Pete came in, then Pete appeared in his room. “You okay?”

“I need to get out of here.” He kept his voice low, to keep her from knowing how much she’d addled his brain.

“Right. Find a shirt.” Pete turned and went back in the other room while A’yen dug out a shirt and pulled it on with as little movement as possible.

“I need to steal him for the rest of the day.”

“Sure. What for?” Dr. Hart’s voice gave nothing away. If she knew the turmoil inside him, she hid it well. Then again, he hadn’t let her see his face.

“Nav path through the asteroid field. He knows it better than I do. And it’s his map.” Pride colored Pete’s statement.

He sucked in one more deep breath to make sure his mask sat in place, then left the semi-privacy of his room. Like her voice, nothing on her face gave away she knew what had almost happened. Maybe she really did have no idea. It’s not like the existence of cascades was common knowledge.

She turned her attention back to the map and her notes, waving a hand in the vague direction of the door. “Have fun.”

Four minutes later they were in the lift and Pete slammed the stop button, pausing it between decks. Arms crossed, he glared at A’yen. “What the hell happened in there?”

A’yen swallowed hard, leaned against the wall. “I asked her to rub oil into my shoulders. She knew exactly what to do, how hard to push, what needed the most attention.” Another swallow, trying to push his heart back down. “One started, and pulling away is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” His legs gave out and he slid down the wall, stopping only when he hit the floor.

“Did you do it on purpose, hoping she’d set one off?”

“No. Before I blanked out yesterday all I could think about was how there wasn’t one waiting for me today.” He leaned forward, head cradled in his hands, fingers dug into his hair. “You’re right about it not being something to give away. I think I need everything else, too.”

Pete sat next to him. “Of course you do. What the two of you had . . . I’m not used to seeing it. If the situation were reversed and he’d lost you, I don’t think he’d still be alive.”

“Which makes me staying alive that much harder. How long is it going to take to figure out how to live without everything he gave me?”

We’re Sexy HOT in ALIEN ADORATION for week 100 of #MySexySaturday #scifirom #AlienNextDoor

My Sexy Saturday

Hello all! Thank you all for joining me for week 100 of My Sexy Saturday! The deets: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.

Today’s theme is…

WE’RE SEXY HOT!

Here’s seven from ALIEN ADORATION. Enjoy!

Alien Adoration by Jessica E. Subject

Set-up: After a horrible date and dumping her boyfriend, Rachel ends up walking home in her bra and skirt. Then it starts pouring rain…

An engine rumbled behind her. She kept moving, pretending she didn’t hear. It could only be Dirk, or some other guy expecting to pick her up. Better to be drenched and alone than have to deal with drunken assholes.

“Need a lift?”

The voice was deep and masculine, one she didn’t hear very often, but would recognize anywhere. Luke. Wonderful! He wouldn’t talk to me before, but now that I’m topless and sopping wet, he notices me.

She circled slowly to stare at the leather-clad figure sitting atop his motorcycle. The visor of his helmet covered most of his face, leaving only his luscious lips and deep, jutting chin, covered in light stubble, exposed. What would they feel like against her lips? Between her legs? Her body tingled.

“Earth to Rachel. Do you need a lift, or should I leave you here in the pouring rain?”

Oh God, he knows my name. Since they’d never actually talked—she’d only heard him greeting his dates—her name on his lips came as a surprise. “Um, yes, I’d appreciate a ride.” On his Harley, and if she was lucky, in his bed. Anywhere. Her romance-first rule didn’t apply to him. He’d already seduced her plenty in her dreams.

Remaining on his bike, he yanked a helmet from his saddlebag and held it out to her.

~ About ALIEN ADORATION ~

Erotic dreams fill her with need…

Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.

Until she learns the truth…

Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met–and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him.  Convincing her he isn’t like all the jerks she’s dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?

Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?

Stop by the Diamond Saloon THE DIAMOND SERIES #BOXSET by @authorCassDean #western @DecadentPub

Stop on by the Diamond Saloon in Freewill, Wyoming with The Diamond Series Box Set by Cassandra Dean
THE DIAMOND SERIES BOX SET
by Cassandra Dean

Stop on by the Diamond Saloon, where devious Englishmen blithely charm sceptical saloon owners and where voluptuous singers archly tease the strong, silent type. Enjoy these two sexy tales from Freewill, Wyoming.

ROUGH DIAMOND

Owner of the Diamond Saloon and Theater, Alice Reynolds is astounded when a fancy Englishman offers to buy her saloon. She won’t be selling her saloon to anyone, let alone a man with a pretty, empty-headed grin…but then, she reckons that grin just might be a lie, and a man of intelligence and cunning resides beneath.

Rupert Llewellyn has another purpose for offering to buy the pretty widow’s saloon—the coal buried deep in land she owns. However, he never banked on her knowing eyes making him weak at the knees, or how his deception would burn upon his soul.

Each determined to outwit the other, they tantalize and tease until passion explodes. But can their desire bridge the lies told and trust broken?

FOOL’S GOLD

Christmas Eve, the Diamond Saloon is empty of its people, and Pearl la Monte has a hankering to retire early. A pounding at the Diamond’s door rids her of such a fool notion. Her irritation rises when she sees the prissy, polite-like Garrett standing outside.

Ethan Garrett has a powerful need to gain succor. When the saloon’s voluptuous redheaded singer scowls at him from the threshold of the Diamond, he doesn’t stop to think on how his ire at her has disappeared. Or how he just wants to spend some time in her company.

When a blizzard storms in, trapping them, will they spend their time arguing or find their irritation for each other disguises something more?

Excerpt from ROUGH DIAMOND

Lifting the glass, Alice studied its contents. “There is nothing quite like the enjoyment you get from a good whiskey. There’s the look and color of it, and the way it burns in the light.”

“It’s the same color as your eyes,” Llewellyn breathed, his own wide and empty of thought.

A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. That’s right. Fool me into thinking there’s not an ounce of calculation to your words. “Is it? Mighty kind of you to notice.”

A happy grin was her response.

Well now, she was surely going to enjoy this. Setting her own half-smile, she tilted her glass, watching as the whiskey caught the light of the candle. “Have you ever noticed the feel of glass? It’s smooth against your fingers, and though the whiskey burns you, the glass is cool. It seems strange, doesn’t it? That such fire could come from something so cool.”

Intensely aware of his gaze upon her, she brought the glass to rest on her bottom lip. “You lift the glass to your lips, and all that coolness rests upon your flesh. The scent of the whiskey hits you, sweet and fiery. Your mouth waters, and you can’t wait to have it inside you. Slowly, so slowly, you tip the glass, teasing yourself as long moments in want of its taste stretch unbearably.”

He no longer wore a smile. Dark eyes watched her as strong fingers dug into the glass before him.

A prickle washed over her skin, her heart a steady beat in her chest. With hushed voice, she continued. “Liquid slides down your throat. The flavor explodes inside you, a glorious rush of sensation that overwhelms and consumes. You curl your tongue, enjoying the lingering sensation in every part of your mouth. Then, you look at the bottle.” Finally, she met his gaze direct. No subterfuge. No tease. “And you know you can do it again.”

Excerpt from FOOL’S GOLD

Turning on her heel, Pearl marched off toward the stairs.

A weird kind of panic jolted through Ethan, one he’d never felt before in all his days. It was…he didn’t…. She couldn’t leave him. “Where are you going?”

She whirled to face him, her irritation plain. “I was seeking my bed before your arrival, and now I’m seeking it again. Help yourself to whiskey this one time. I got better things to do.”

Shoving to his feet, he strode to her. “Don’t just walk away when we’re discussing things.”

“We ain’t discussing nothing. You’ll be down here, waiting out the blizzard. I’ll be in my bed, doing what I was gonna before you arrived. That’s the end of it.”

Taking a step, she made to leave him. Again.

He grabbed her arm. “Don’t leave me.”

“Don’t tell me what to do.” Glaring at him, she stood before the bar, her magnificent hair slipping from its pins, her breasts rising and falling.

Abruptly, his mouth went dry. Clearing his throat some, he said, “You’re supposed to offer succor to those in need.”

“We’re closed, remember?” Paint-less lips pressed tight together, she glared up at him.

They were so close he could see the faint marks of freckles on her skin.

Pearl La Monte had freckles.

A kind of haze came over him, tightening his skin and bringing with it something all-fired powerful and completely unstoppable. All the years he’d known her crashed through him, all the times she’d flirted with him and meant something else, all the times he’d seen her perform on stage and wished he could have held such fire.

Grabbing her upper arms, he hauled her against him and, ignoring her shocked gasp, he covered her mouth with his.

Read an Extended Excerpt from ONE NIGHT WITH HIS WIFE by @SSaraDaniel #1NightStand @DecadentPub

Sometimes, all it takes is one night.... Sara Daniel's One Night with the Bridal Party seriesEnjoy an Extended Excerpt from Sara Daniel’s ONE NIGHT WITH HIS WIFE

Rosalind settled onto the empty chair across from him. “So, uh—” She unwrapped a straw and swirled it in her lemonade. “What things need to be finalized? I thought I’d signed everything the lawyers needed.”

Luke clenched his jaw. Her rushing to finish the last of the business tying them together shouldn’t have ticked him off, but it did. “I thought so, too. The judge was supposed to rubberstamp it this morning. Unfortunately, the identity theft app that I’d been working on that just seemed to eat our money—”

“And Alex’s money,” she added.

“Yeah.” Of course, she knew. He didn’t have to explain the past to her. She’d been by his side the whole time, supporting him every second until he’d turned his back on her. “Well, it suddenly took off. We stopped bleeding money, and it started pouring in instead. The company’s worth more than I ever dreamed, way more than when you signed all those papers that gave me the company and its debt without giving you anything in return.”

She shook her head, her braid whipping with the ferocity of the movement. “I don’t want your money, Luke. I never wanted your money.”

Never having doubted the assertion, he lifted his whiskey.

“Your baby, yes, but not your money,” she said, her solemn gaze boring into him.

He tossed back the liquor. If only the path burning down his throat would make him forget his dreams of having a baby with her. “Without a lawyer representing your interests, the judge believed you were getting ripped off with the settlement we’d agreed on. The truth is, you would have gotten ripped off by that agreement, so I’m glad we have a chance to make it fair.”

Once again, her braid whipped back and forth with her emphatic denial. “The company is yours and Alex’s. I didn’t do anything except cook dinner and give you space to work. I came into our marriage with nothing, and I left with nothing, so I came out even.”

The whiskey burned in his gut without taking the edge off his nerves. He slapped the empty glass on the table. “You wasted ten years of your life with me. I don’t call that even.”

“I don’t call it a waste,” she shot back. “If we’d had a kid, then yes, I’d take your money and put it in an account for his or her future, but that never happened. I don’t need or want anything for myself.”

He closed his eyes. “You should be thankful we don’t have a kid.”

“We had a deal, Luke. When you retired from the Marines, we’d start a family.”

“I got my leg blown off,” he shouted, opening his eyes to glare at her, hating the sorrow in her voice and himself for not being able to deliver on her dream. “We never took that scenario into account.”

She shoved her drink away. “Your leg is not the same piece of anatomy as your dick. Maybe you hadn’t noticed because you’ve been too busy being a dick.”

Yes, yell at me. Take your anger out on me. He wanted her hate and resentment, not her sorrow and disappointment. Luke reached for the extra lemonade and slammed back half of it before saying, “You’re right. I was a dick. I don’t deserve you. I never did. I want you to have the chance to find someone better than me, to get something better from him than what you got from our relationship.”

“Well, money won’t make that happen.” She slumped her shoulders, her voice little more than a whisper. “You don’t have to pay me to go away, Luke. I’ll just go.”

The lemonade turned sour in his stomach, and he pushed aside the half-empty glass. Every divorce he’d witnessed from the sidelines or heard tales of later, the couple had fought over money, with each party claiming as much of the pie as he or she could get away with. But Rosalind offered him everything. He hated the possibility that someone down the road might take advantage of her generosity. She needed to look out for herself first, not him.

Perhaps, he could make her do so by convincing her to hate him and then take his money in revenge. “Look, I didn’t come here with the intention of tracking you down.”

Her soulful brown eyes widened, and she lifted her glass again. “You just happened to be wandering around Montana, and here I was?”

“I signed up for a blind-date one-night stand at this resort, and I ran into you by accident while I was waiting for my date to arrive. But I’m sitting with you now because I really don’t want to be married to you when I sleep with someone else tonight.”

*

The drink slipped through Rosalind’s fingers. Pale-yellow liquid and ice cubes spilled down her shirt before the heavy glass shattered on the floor.

Ever a man of action, Luke shoved away from the table and called to Mac. But she remained frozen, unable to care about the drama of the spill. She’d been keeping her shit together over Luke seeking her out to finalize their divorce. But the admission that he wanted to have sex with someone else paralyzed her. It destroyed her.

He’d moved beyond their relationship, beyond fixating on ending it. He was ready to start a new chapter of his life. But she couldn’t move on. Body, heart and soul, she’d loved him and still did. A divorce wouldn’t change her feelings, and neither would seeing him with another woman. But it sure as hell would hurt.

From the direction of the bar, a towel flew toward them. Stretching upward, Luke snagged it from the air with quick reflexes and a gorgeous display of biceps and washboard abs. “Here. Use this to dry your shirt.” He held it toward her.

After fumbling for it, she pressed it to her chest. His hand still tangled in the cloth ended up covering her breast, his palm rubbing her beaded nipple.

He hissed and squeezed his eyes closed. But instead of yanking his hand away, he became immobile, warming her through the wet fabric until the reaction of her breast to the cold morphed to one of desire. Desire that he no longer returned.

Telling time where time doesn’t exist ~ @Liza0Connor tackles the issue in THE GODS OF PROBABLITIES

Author Liza O'Connor discusses telling time in space with THE GODS OF PROBABILITIES blog tour.

Telling time in Space
post by author Liza O’Connor

How could spacemen traveling through space measure time in a meaningful way?

It’s not as simple as it sounds.

On Earth we initially established our years, days, minutes and second between the Earth’s rotation around the sun.  It’s not quite accurate, which explains leap year every four years, but it does well enough to get by.

But what if we moved to the new Oceana, a planet far away in a different galaxy? Would we call a single rotation of our new planet around our new sun a year?  But what if it has two suns (which it does) and our planet is a moon rotating around a large gaseous planet that rotates between two suns. What if that rotation shifts from time to time due to the gradational pull of each sun?

Author Liza O'Connor discusses telling time in space with THE GODS OF PROBABILITIES blog tour.

Those are matters my Oceanics must deal with, but honestly they are flexible with time, it being an illusion and all. If it is dark, they sleep. If it is light they study or work according to the plans of their teachers. They have no perceptible season in the water since it remains a pleasant temperature year around. So no one actually cares what time it is.

In book 2, my human (well, mostly human) colonists will land on a very different a planet. The planet comes with five seasons, three of them quite deadly and the sentient beings, who resemble cows and bulls, count their years by the passing of the five seasons. It makes sense that on such a planet you will create time categories that work specifically for your planet. It’s not helpful to designate a certain number of days a year if it doesn’t consistently correspond with changes in the seasons.  If May is freezing one year, and underwater the next year because you failed to alter ‘time’ to your new life cycle, you aren’t going to be a successful colonist.

So how will we do this? If we arrive with watches set to earth, what good are they? If they have no means to be recalculated, then they are worthless.

One already invented measurement device uses a pulsar to tell time. But while considered ‘out of space’ from our position on earth, it wouldn’t be accurate for a space ship to use as it flew toward and away from its pulsar.

However, the latest advancement in atomic clocks is one called the Quantum Logic Clock that’s based on measurements of individual ions of Beryllium and aluminum. It could set a truly Universal standard that regardless where you are in the universe, you could use since all you need to do is bring the ions with you.

One should expect all space stations and ships will adapt to Universal Standard time, since they have no ‘seasons’.

However, most planets will prefer to use a clock that corresponds with their seasons based on their rotation around their sun or suns. Not a problem if all time devices include a small computer within which can translate Universal time to local standards.

So while in local standards Earth time doesn’t equal Terranue time, the pulse of universal time that runs ALL clocks is the same. And if you need to talk to someone off planet, you can flip over to Universal time and tell them when they should arrive. Otherwise, there might be a time confusion and they’ll try to land in Hard Days when the temp climbs to 240 degrees, or Cold days when it drops 40 below freezing, or worse yet, they attempt to land in Angry Days when the winds and hail would obliterate the ship in short order.

In my story, this single quantum pulse is called an echon.

Author Liza O'Connor discusses telling time in space with THE GODS OF PROBABILITIES blog tour.

However, for ease of reading, the time conversions have been made to this version so Earth people can understand the times, since they have failed to adapt to the Universal standard system.

The Gods of Probabilities

by Liza O’Connor

The Gods require a time shifter to ensure the Path of Light reigns during the final collapse of possibilities. To speed the process of finding an Oceanic with the specific talents needed, God DNA is induced in several batches of Oceanic eggs, resulting in a generation of brilliant tiny blue Oceanic children.

One charming boy named Drogan has the ability to manipulate quantum reality in ways that will strengthen the Path of Light. Only trouble is that his gift runs a high probability of killing him and wiping out the Path of Light for good.

While the bureaucratic Gods will try to assist, in Quantum all possibilities not only can, but do happen, so the future is never certain.

blog space excerpt

Athena smiled at her discovery of a small water-based planet with a heavy atmosphere similar to Zepwick’s. It also had an excellent magnetic shield protecting it from the two suns that warmed this system.

Technically, it was a moon of a large gaseous planet, and would have been a block of ice if not for the second sun. With just a few adjustments, it would be perfect for the Oceanics.

Knowing humans would eventually need to arrive on the planet and take Drogan with them when they left, she tugged a portion of the molten-hot core of the planet upward, creating an underwater volcano to establish a moderate-sized island fifteen feet above the ocean.

She gathered thick piles of fish shit and rotted sea plants, placing it over the pockmarked lava rock. Then, selecting a few promising plants from beneath the ocean, she modified them for land survival and scattered them about the barren island.  She smiled at her work. By the time the humans arrived, the island would make a lovely stopping point.

blog space excerpt

Just a dream…just a dream…

The inhibs burned bitter on her tongue. A small spot, just to the left of her tailbone burned where she thought—knew—that his cock had rested, pulsing and erect, while he pleasured her. Her skin remembered. But how could her body remember what never happened?

She stalked out of the cockpit, gulping in lungfuls of the cooler air in the corridor. Air scented with the chilly chemical tang of the atmo-scrubbers, rather than the heated musk of her own body. She stopped herself from slamming open the sliding door to the cargo hold—if he was still out, she didn’t want to wake him up. The only time a mindsnake wasn’t dangerous was when he was dead. But asleep would do, in this case.

Sure enough, he hung on the wall, sagging against the repulsor cuffs that held his wrists. His head drooped. Golden locks of hair fell down over his forehead, obscuring his eyes. He looked so peaceful. Harmless, really.

Before she could lose her nerve, she strode up to him and pulled the zipcord she’d used to secure his pants after the unfortunate accident. She’d prove to herself it was just a fevered imagining, brought on by a glimpse of something forbidden. And there it hung, sleeping peacefully, in a thatch of dark gold, wiry hair, nestled against his stones. Such a big deal to her imagination and such a…not-big deal up close. It was just a penis.

“A man’s penis is a tool for the transmission of seed to a fertile female womb.” The health video in her head began, displaying a holographic facsimile.

“This is the sceptre of the pleasure goddess, directing her will.” The feminine voice overrode the canned audio of the health vid.

She shook her head. Wherever that came from, she didn’t want to know. It’s just a penis. A body part. That’s all. It’s just…there. And limp.

And…leaning to the left.

A touch, almost like a fingertip-brush, shivered down the skin of her back. She whirled, but there was nothing there. Shaking her head, she turned back around to pull his pants back up. I don’t care if it is eight jumps. I’m getting back to Prime, collecting my bounty, and getting the hell away from—things that leaned to the left.

Reaching around put her in close contact with his legs, and she couldn’t help but notice the scent of cool, fresh water that seemed to cling to him. Maybe I’ll visit a water world, she thought. Swim in an ocean somewhere. She paused as she imagined a warm sea cradling her, tiny waves lapping at her skin.

“Like what you see?”

She started so violently at the quiet words that she flew backwards, landing on her ass with a rattle of the deckplates. A guilty glance upwards and she saw his eyes, bright blue-gray and gleaming from behind the fringe of hair that hung over his forehead. “You’re awake!” It came out like she was accusing him.

Her skin could have been on fire for the blush that burned her from inside out, all the way from toes to the roots of her hair. She was already warm from the cockpit—oh suns, don’t think of that!—and trying to return his pants to their proper state. This just made things that much worse all around.

“I usually prefer to be conscious when a lovely woman is that close to my private parts.”

She scowled. “You have no respect for the vice laws, do you?”

He met her glare with one of his own. “Why should I?”

“It’s virtue that keeps people safe,” she said, speaking along with the Voice that supplied the immediate answer in her head. “A prudent society is a secure society. Vice and temptation make citizens unsafe. Peace comes through restraint.” How much more simple did it have to be?

“So I shouldn’t be at all worried that you had something pleasurable in mind when you divested me of my pants.”

She blushed even harder, and fell back on her original reason for cutting his belt. “I was checking you for weapons.”

He threw his head back and laughed, exposing the long lines of his throat and jaw, and for one wild moment, she wanted very badly to kiss along the line of it, and maybe nip at the flutter where his pulse beat. He’d like that.

“I can assure you that my fiercest weapon is only that which you see before you,” he said, glancing down to meet her eyes. “And it brings only pleasure.” For a long moment she was caught in the loop of thinking about the taste of his skin over and over, seeing an afterimage of her own tongue flicking out and gliding over the salty scratchiness of his jaw.

“You unsheath it when you look at me like that.”

She stepped back. “Stop that.”

“Stop what?”

“Using your mindsnake tricks on me.” She turned away to hide her blush. His voice was too gentle when he murmured those words. To know she had an effect on him—it didn’t fit the equation! I’m the hunter. He’s the bounty. We’re enemies. He shouldn’t want anything more than to get far away from me. And I shouldn’t want anything more than to bring him back for justice. Pursuit and capture. The eventual triumph of the law over chaos. She activated the water dispenser and got herself a cup of cold water.

She turned back to him when she fought down her blush. Vice Hunters didn’t back down. They searched the depths of galactic depravity and rooted out the corruption that put the entire Union in danger. Vice Hunters didn’t flinch.

“My lady, I assure you, you’re in no danger from my ‘mindsnake tricks.’”

Her eyes jumped to the neuro-collar, and the little green LED that indicated that it was functioning properly. The neuro-collars were guaranteed to block psypath talents. She’d witnessed the tests herself.

His voice dropped an octave. “Or did you adorn me with a collar for another reason?”

Her fingers wrapped around the cup in a death grip.

He lowered still, to a whisper, so that she had to step closer to hear him. “Are you the type of lady who enjoys her partners helpless?” he asked. “I’m sure we could come to an…arrangement.”

The collar had to be malfunctioning. There was no way the images that flashed before her could come from her. She’d never done any of those things! Never stood naked before him and shoved him down on his knees among scented pillows. Or felt a white-hot thrill when he looked up at her, his shoulders straining from the elaborate ties that bound his hands behind him and his cock straining from the pleasure they both knew was imminent.

A loud crack split the air between them. She glanced down to see the front of his pants soaked through. It took a full thirty seconds, along with his, “Your hand,” for her to realize that she’d broken the plastiform cup, and launched the water in it everywhere.

In her mind’s eye, she saw herself stepping towards him. Throwing the cracked cup up into the air over her shoulder and pressing herself against him. Felt the dampness from the spill soaking his pants seep into her own clothing, echoing the damp between her legs. Of plastering her thighs to his, her belly to his pelvis, her breasts to his chest. Hunger rose in her, threatening to choke her with its force.

The cup flew into the air.

Set-up: All the stories in this box set take place over one night, a date the characters were set up on by Madame Eve, and maybe some friends. But, what happens when the evening is over? Here’s an inside look at what happened with Melinda and Cooper from Her Alien Hero

After their evening together, Cooper had returned home, leaving her to her long-neglected conference. He’d likely wake up and learn his date with Melinda had been nothing more than wishful thinking, his imagination on hyper drive.

As she opened her car door, Melinda smiled, her eyes lighting up like the sun. “Cooper! What are you doing here?”

“I, uh….” He dug his toe into the driveway. “I wanted to see you again.” He shoved the flowers toward her to try and end his awkwardness. The last thing he wanted was for her to think of him as a stalker. She had given him her address and told him to come over anytime.

“Thank you. They’re beautiful. I love roses.” She tucked the bouquet under her arm and began to fish through her purse. “I’ve got something for you, too.”

He angled closer as she continued to dig, setting some papers on top of her car and holding others between her teeth.

“Do you need some help?”

She pulled out a key and dumped everything else back into her handbag. “Nope, I’ve found it. Here you go.”

What’s the key for? Well, you’ll have to get the box set to find out. Heck, it’s only 99¢.
