#SFRMonday: Only one person can assassinate the Emperor ~ REBEL CAPTIVE by @sidkemory #scifirom
Please welcome S K Emory with the first episode in her Rebel Heart series…
REBEL CAPTIVE
Episode 1: Rebel Heart
by S. K. Emory
Mahat Yalani always thought he was an honorable man – he thought it was in his very blood. He was the good one when they were all children together, the one who never lied, never cheated, never stole. When his boyhood friend ascended the throne, Mahat swore that he would be loyal forever. But he could never have known the monster Yama would become, and five years later Mahat is in the Empress’s bed, conspiring to depose his rightful ruler. As Yama grows ever more depraved, Mahat must face the choice he never hoped to make: whether to save his friend or the Empire, whether to spare Yama’s life or send the only weapon the rebellion has left?
At eighteen, Ryn sold the only thing she had left in the world: herself. She didn’t really have a choice: three younger siblings and no food, no money. She knew what happened to kids from the provinces, but she still wasn’t prepared. Who, after all, would be prepared to be made into a cyborg? Who would guess that she was being made into a rebel, illegal and hunted?
All Mahat wants is to live an honorable life, and all Ryn only wants to be turned back into a human before it’s too late. Unfortunately, there’s an Emperor to assassinate, and only one person who can do it…

He was dreading this meeting. Mahat Yalani, First Admiral of the Rellat Imperial Fleet and the man presently planning the coup that would bring the Empire of Rellat down from the inside in the next 48 hours, strode down the hallway to the Emperor’s private chambers and tried to calm the racing in his heart.
Why did Yama need to see him now, of all times? The ship was ready, the cover story set up, and Mahat would be inspecting the rebel army by evening flagship time. He had been avoiding Yama for days, his conscience troubled by the sight of his one-time friend. Every kind smile and murmured confidence only twisted the knife. His grieving had been done in private; he did not want to say goodbye .
Mahat did not doubt that the rebellion was necessary. He did not doubt that at all. It was simply that now, with a successful coup close at hand, he could not help but remember the man Yama had once been: kind, loyal, and terrified in the wake of his sudden ascension to the throne.
They had all had so much hope.
Mahat paused outside the door. No guards. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. Was it a trap? Did Yama know?
It would almost be a relief, at this point. And he had seen enough executions to know that if Yama was aware of the rebellion, there was no escaping his trap now. Fighting the urge to run, Mahat straightened his shoulders and pushed aside the door hangings.
“You wanted to see me, Your—” He came up short at the sight of the Empress Consort. He had been avoiding Veta, as well, though for different reasons. His confidant and co-conspirator, the Empress showed none of the doubts that clung to Mahat’s heart. Was he uneasy in her presence because her unalloyed pleasure unnerved him, or was it that he feared the same pleasure in himself? It was one thing to depose a mad tyrant, to win in an honorable struggle. Then, one might look forward to victory without guilt. It was another thing entirely when the mad tyrant had once been their friend.
No matter his doubts, no matter his unease, Mahat was unable to stop the smile that spread across his face. He had missed Veta’s ready grin, and he had not expected to see her for days. He had especially not expected to see her lounging naked on the four-poster bed at the center of the room.
He managed to restrain himself enough to lean against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest. “Your Majesty.”
“Is that how you greet your Empress?” An impish smile tugged at the corner of Veta’s mouth. Her black curls tumbled over her shoulders, the golden circlet gleaming.
Mahat bowed low.
“Your Imperial Majesty, may God preserve you in peace and prosperity forevermore. How may your humble servant aid you?”
“Mmm.” Her voice sent a shiver down his spine. “I think perhaps this humble servant might come a little closer, and tell his Empress why he has been so absent from her side.”
“It would be my greatest joy to come closer to the font of your beauty,” Mahat said, mouth twitching in a smile. “And will your husband be joining us?”
He surprised Veta into a laugh, her head thrown back and her naked shoulders shaking with mirth. She stretched languorously, brown skin glowing against the red covers, and beckoned him.
“This is a dangerous game you’re playing.” But Mahat could no more stop himself from going to her than he could move mountains. He was drawn close, bending down to kiss her, catching his breath when her fingers closed around his uniform and pulled him down to her.
“Tell me, Mahat— where have you been, these past few days?”
“It is nothing…Your Majesty.”
“I know you better than that.” Her eyes narrowed speculatively and she trailed a finger down his chest, her eyes gone grave. “Do you have doubts?”
“You do know me.” His smile was fading. “Some, yes. Call them regrets.”
“The only thing to regret is what Yama has made himself.” Her voice was soft, persuasive. “You did all you could. Mahat, I cannot bear to see you like this, not when you’re doing what is right.”
“What is necessary,” Mahat murmured.
“You were pushed to this,” Veta reminded him. “No one would wish to choose between his friend and his homeland. But you are saving more lives than can be counted.”
“More are going to die before this is done.” Now that they came to it, he could feel himself crumbling inside. “Veta, I’m not sure I can do this.”
“You have to.” She pushed herself up. “We have to. Mahat, please.”
There was a note of genuine fear in her voice. He searched her eyes, and saw tears trembling there.
“I’m scared,” she whispered. “The implants are…they’re changing him. Every day he’s worse, I never know what will set him off. And Mahat, the weapons he has…”
“He would never use them,” Mahat whispered back, but it was a meaningless assurance and they both heard it in his voice. Who knew what Yama would do now?
“It’s getting worse,” she said fiercely. “You know that. If we don’t strike now—”
“I know,” Mahat said. He nodded, and cupped her face in his hand, trying to smile. Trying not to think of the army he would bring back with him. He stole another kiss and tried to stand. “I’ll do it. Be safe, I’ll be back soon.”
“Don’t go yet.” Veta’s lips curved and she pulled him closer.

New Release! Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door is now available #99cents #mustread
Hello readers! I’m excited to announce that Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door has released. This is a story that I had to write. I was in the middle of writing another story when this idea came to mind. Usually, I write the idea in my idea folder and continue on with my present work-in-progress. In the case of this story, I couldn’t. I became blocked with the other story, Erika wanting her story written. So, I gave in. And now, I present her story…

Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door
ISBN: 978-0-9948431-0-4
Living on the other side of the tracks was a fantasy Erika never expected to come true. But when her mother marries an investment banker, she moves to a home larger than all her previous houses combined. While searching for her new stepbrother to help with unpacking, she stumbles upon his smokin’ hot neighbor, all alone in his mansion and busy at work on a… flying saucer? Can Erika escape before he notices her, or will she be abducted by the sexy alien?
Available for 99¢ from:
Amazon US | UK | Canada | Germany | Australia
Cover art by Fantasia Frog Designs
Edited by Valerie Man of Wizards in Publishing

“What exactly do you think I am, Miss Erika?”
“An alien.” There, I’d said it, and I expected him to laugh in my face and deny it.
Instead, he placed his hands behind his back and stepped nearer. “And what if I am?”
My breath caught. “I….” I should have kept my mouth shut. No, I should have waited for Barron to text a reply, never come over to the neighbor’s house. Now, I was stuck in a basement hangar with a flying saucer and a guy who could be from another planet.
Laken inched closer, and closer still. I moved along with him until my back hit a wall on the other side of the room. Trapped. Trying to duck away wouldn’t do me any good. He’d only race around and block my way again. My heart beat so hard, I expected it to thump right out of my chest. Would he let me go, or did he have other plans? If I screamed loud enough, would someone come to my rescue?
Leaning forward, he placed his palm on the wall behind me. “What if I told you I knew the instant you came into this room?” He ran his other hand along my cheekbone, tucking my hair behind an ear. “What if I told you I could feel your attraction, smell your sex?”
A shiver raced down my spine. Sure, I wanted to jump his bones before I’d seen his eyes. Now, I yearned for a way out, a clear path to escape from Mr. Sex-on-a-stick who may or may not be an extraterrestrial.
He dipped his head so close to mine, his warm breath brushed my neck. A flash of heat washed over me. Fuck, it had been so long since I’d been with any guy. Did it really matter where he came from?
“What if, Erika? If I am an alien? Would you still find me attractive? Would you still want to lick me from head to toe? Suck my cock? Would you want me to fuck you against this wall, in my spaceship, and on every single surface of this room?”

The perfect night ~ #MySexySaturday from BENEATH THE STARRY SKY #romance #1NS
Hello everyone! Thank you for joining me for the 106th week of My Sexy Saturday. Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s theme is…
THAT SEXY TIME OF DAY
Here’s seven from BENEATH THE STARRY SKY, a contemporary erotic romance about a woman with alopecia, which just released in audio.
Setup: Josh has taken Tamara to a cave in Mount Charlston for their date. She’s about to find out why.
“The edge?” A look of terror flashed across her face. “What if we fall off?”
He laughed then helped her up, into his arms. “I don’t plan on letting you fall over. Besides, the show is going to start soon.”
Her wide eyes stared up at him. “What show?”
“Let’s move and find out.” He pulled the foam mat and sleeping bag to the entrance of the cave. Sitting down on the bag, he settled her between his legs. He flicked the flashlight off and stared up at the sky.
The first flash of light shot across the indigo background. She gasped. “That was a shooting star.”
He held her tighter. “That’s only the beginning. There’ll be plenty of wishes made tonight and I hope I can grant some of them for you.”
Kissing the back of her bare head, he smiled when she gave in, relaxed against him. The stars could wait….

WHAT LOLA WANTS … it’s about time! @JoAnneKenrick #newrelease #romance #amreading

What Lola Wants … it’s about time!
Huge thanks to Jessica for hosting me on her awesomesauce blog! It’s a pleasure and honor to be here, as always. I adore the socks off that gal.
Well. It’s official, I am now one of those fandangled hybrid authors who is published both traditionally via a publisher, and self published. My first self-published book just went live for pre-order…and releases shortly on August 27th 2015. Psst…it’s only $1.11, what a bargain! One of the bonuses of self-publishing is that I get to set the price.
What Lola Wants, London Dolls book one, holds a very special place in my heart. Not just because she’s my first self-published book and kick starts a very exciting series set in London’s West End, but because she’s been on my computer for years. Yes! I said years. I finished her back in 2013. As with all my books, I polished her and edited her with the help of my amazing critique group. But then…2014 was an awful year. Personal stuff, but let’s just say writing was the last thing on my mind for a long while. She was ready to publish, really, mid-2014. But I just kept picking at the manuscript, slowly over time while I waited for life to settle down again.
And, as you can imagine, to finally be able to let What Lola Wants loose on the world is an incredibly satisfying yet nerve splitting feeling. I can’t wait for you to meet Lola. She’s full of sass and is so stubborn…but her old high school crush is about to knock that right out of her, and then some!
If you want a “girls night out” type reading experience, then my new London Dolls series is for you! It’s full of hopes and dreams, and glam…all set in the glizty West End of London with small town visits thrown in for good measure.
I hope readers love Lola and Dennis as much as I do, and the whole crew of characters waiting in line for their story to be told *grins* …
I present to you, London Dolls, book one.
What Lola Wants.
Louisa “Lola” Lone flees The Royal Ballet and ends her days as arm-candy to a cheating choreographer. Back in London, she plans to recreate herself and find the happiness success never brought her. But she hasn’t seen her best friend’s brother, the blond surfer who still holds her heart, in years, and worries he may resent her for leaving him for fame and fortune.
Dennis Bay sucks at relationships. Why? Because he can’t get over Lola. A decade after leaving without a glance back, she’s returned and needs support. He wants to pretend she’s just his baby sister’s friend, leave the city, and surf out his emotions on the biggest waves he can find, ultimately forgetting about her. But he can’t deny the frenzy of love and lust the sexy dancer has him in.
Spinning into the dazzling world of burlesque, Louisa hopes to rediscover her confidence and a path back to Dennis. But a stalker lurks in the shadows of her new life and threatens a second chance with her high school crush. Can history and desire overcome all that stands in the way of Dennis and Louisa’s happily ever after?

She pressed the cutesy doorbell she helped pick out when she and Jane had first moved in, then waited.
It had only been four or so months since she’d last chit-chatted on the phone with Jane, but ten years had passed since they’d last rehearsed together. Last she’d heard, Jane was some big West End star now. Knowing this eased her guilt of being accepted to The Royal Ballet when Jane had been rejected.
Louisa’s suitcase bulged with all the clothes she’d managed to squeeze into the battered old thing. The sight brought home her new reality. No performing for the unforeseeable future. She slumped. Voluntary sabbatical. Ha! Her ex had pushed her so far into a corner that she didn’t have a choice.
She pressed the button again.
Still no answer.
“Jane?” She knocked on the hardwood.
The door creaked open a sliver.
“Hello?” Louisa peeked around the opening, her voice a notch higher than a whisper. “Anyone home?”
She inched into her old place and peered around.
Not a stick of furniture remained in a room distinguished by peeling pink wallpaper and faded carpet. No welcoming aromas of coffee and sweet vanilla butter cream from her friend’s cake and caffeine addiction. Just the bitter lemon and pine scent of cleaning products lingered.
Nothing resembled the bright flat she’d once shared with Jane.
The door to the kitchen where she’d burned countless meals and brewed much coffee creaked open a little, and the sounds of a man engaged in a heated discussion echoed. He blasted complaints about spoiled fruitcake and returned invites.
Seemed her friend no longer lived here, but someone getting hitched did. The voice, gruff like Jane’s surfer brother, Dennis, made her pause. She dismissed the idea when the man said, “Poppycock.” Dennis wouldn’t be caught dead saying such a thing. Cock, yes. But with a poppy? Definitely not.
She pivoted into the hall and closed the door behind her.
Now what?
Time to head to a hotel, that’s what, and phone Jane to let her know she was back in town and needed hugs.
“You rang, and rang…and rang?” The door flung open. She staggered back and turned. Dennis Bay loomed over her. Blond, unruly hair, perfect tan, and bright blues. He was still the vision of a sun-kissed surfer straight from Devonshire’s wild waves, except he wore “adult” clothes now, instead of the long shorts and tee she remembered him in.
Smoking hot.
Her breath caught for the longest second before she was able to ask, “What happened to you?”
“Lola?” He curled his tongue as he over-pronounced the Ls in her name. “It can’t be.”
No one ever called her Lola, no one except him. And no one matched the sensual way he rolled his Ls that cut right through to her insides and made her heart flutter.
Oh, my.
Dennis Bay. Jane’s older brother and Louisa’s long-time crush. One she thought she was over. Apparently, not so much.

Reviews:
The twists, diabolical turns and disturbing descriptions had me hooked and wanting more! I couldn’t put it down! ~ Goodreads review
Filled with emotional turmoil, danger, suspense, mystery, deceit, lies, scandal, murder and romance. What an awesome blend of romance with suspense, family turmoil and secrets. Not for the faint of heart… ~ My Book Addiction and More
Where I can usually figure out the intrigue element in most mysteries, I wasn’t exactly left guessing who the bad guy was, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out he had an accomplice! ~ Award winning author Nichole Severn
Benedict St. John glared ice-cold daggers at his father. The marquess paced behind his desk, muttering oaths and, within his meaty grip, he held a crumpled piece of paper. Benedict didn’t know what had the patriarch so vexed, however, whatever it was, had to have been infuriating enough to radiate contempt. To have pulled him away from making arrangements for his and Estelle’s wedding had to have been of great importance.
Exhaling, Benedict took a seat by the fireplace, but not before reaching for the brandy his father left out on the sideboard. He swirled the amber liquid and inhaled the sweet scent of the indulgence; the liquor his father preferred to drink when something went awry.
“Dare I ask what has you in such a state, Father?”
“I’m not sure if you want to be privy to such information. It’s a bloody scandal. Your mother is going to be surly when she finds out. Not to mention how the rest of our family will be dragged through the mud. No, it is crucial we put a stop to this madness.”
Benedict winced, knowing all too well his mother would only give her scathing disapproval if the situation were related to their finances. They had led a comfortable lifestyle up until now and, while taking up a smaller residence wouldn’t bother him that much, his mother would certainly object. He imagined his mother’s words spewing and sputtering, society this, and society that. They would be ruined, and she would be too embarrassed to face society. She would insist that they leave town, and God would only know to where.
In fact, while he maintained a small income and the inheritance he received from his grandfather, the time had arrived for him to consider moving into his own residence. Something he should have done some time ago, but his resolve in ensuring him and Estelle had enough income without relying heavily on his parents had weighed on him greatly.
With his nuptials to Lady Estelle Humphrey pending, he really should have established their family residence by now. He had no excuse to not have it completed already. Their wedding being more than a month away certainly didn’t leave him more time to piss about and squander time he didn’t have.
“Father, come and sit down with me. I am certain we can discern how much trouble the family is in. If there is an opportunity to consolidate properties—”
The earl guffawed at the suggestion. “My dear boy; let me ascertain that none of the servants are nearby and I will confide in you. What I have to say impacts on everyone and I want to make sure this information stays between you and me.”
Benedict raised a brow at his father’s comment. What on earth, could the man be hiding?

The door slid open and Tevik walked in. Jiona resisted the urge to leap up and tackle him. There’d be time for escape plans when she knew the deal…and had some clothing. A semi-naked female running loose would attract too much unwanted attention, even one as skinny as her. He’d done her a favor. Dammit, he’d saved her life. Plus, he held a tray with food and drink on it, and her stomach was already clenching in ravenous anticipation.
“Good morning.” He eyed her with suspicion and kept his distance. What was he afraid of? That she might kiss him again? Or try to hurt him? Right at that moment she wasn’t sure herself. He’d saved her, agreed to her insane request to be taken into his custody…and then stripped her. A slap would be appropriate, surely. “How are you feeling?”
“A damn sight better than the last time I was conscious.” Jiona couldn’t help staring. Tevik was only wearing jeans, displaying an expanse of coppery skin and a well-muscled torso. She found herself licking her lips, and quickly snapped her mouth shut.
He gave her an odd look, although those luminous eyes might seem weird to anyone meeting a Deluvian for the first time. Their strangeness had grown on her over their numerous tussles. “Are you sure you’re okay? I can still take you to the hospital.”
“I’m fine.” Not the hospital. Not there. She shivered. “Care to explain why I’m half-naked in your bed?”
Tevik quirked an eyebrow and perched beside her on the edge of the mattress, still keeping out of reach. “My bed, because there was nowhere else to put you. And as for your clothing…” He had the grace to look sheepish. “Strip search. After that trick in the vaults with the knife…” With one hand he gestured to a long, dark bruise over his ribs that matched those on the opposite side from where she’d kicked him. She flinched. “I couldn’t be sure what else you might have tucked away.”
“Bet you enjoyed searching me.”
A faint blush colored his cheeks. “I did what I had to do, for my own safety as much as yours. I didn’t want any booby traps going off in your outfit. You are known for them.”
She smirked. “Thought I might have a weapon tucked away in my panties?”
His blush deepened. Her panties had been little more than a strand of lace. Less restrictive, but certainly no cover for a weapon. Not even a very small one.
“With you, anything is possible.”
Jiona laughed. “Ah, now there’s a reputation I can be proud of!”

TAKEN BY THE BILLIONAIRE ALIEN NEXT DOOR is now available for pre-order ~ only #99cents!
My next release is August 24th. Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door is a story I wrote when I was supposed to be writing something else. I couldn’t get the idea out of my head, and my muse for the other story disappeared. So, I wrote it, and I hope you enjoy it. Taken is a short story, and is available for only 99¢!
Pre-order from:

Beneath the Starry Sky is now an #audiobook! #contemporary #romance #alopecia
I’m super stoked that my first contemporary romance, BENEATH THE STARRY SKY is available as an audio book. It is narrated by Audrey Lusk, who also produced Another Night, Another Planet.
It is a story about a woman with Alopecia, who doesn’t believe she will ever find love, and a man who doesn’t think he has time for love.
Left at the altar with bald patches on her head and her self-confidence stripped away, Tamara Johnson must pick up the pieces of her life and face her Alopecia Areata, the autoimmune disease causing her hair to fall out. She is convinced no man will date a bald woman and arranges a one-night stand through Madame Evangeline’s popular service, 1Night Stand. With her new wig held firmly in place, Tamara arrives at the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas for a night of passion and pleasure. Anything more than one night would mean exposing her bald head, and she will never do that to any man again.
Running into the Castillo Hotel, away from the paparazzi constantly at his heels, Josh Summers wants to spend his next few days locked away from the flashing lights and screaming fans. When he finds an incredibly sexy woman wearing nothing but lingerie lying on his hotel room bed, he thinks the hotel has made a mistake. Leaving the woman, he heads for the lobby to get the situation rectified. But an unexpected text from Madame Evangeline sends him back to his room, though unsure whether the woman on the bed is really his perfect match or just another fan believing him to be like his character on television. To find out, he must risk telling her his own secrets. If Tamara can handle his imperfections, she just might be his ideal woman.
