“They’d kill me if they found out I made love to their sister” #MWTease #scifi #romance
Happy Wednesday! I’m back with another Mid Week Tease for you.
Mid Week Tease is an author meme started and hosted by author Sandra Bunino, where authors share snippets from their recent releases, back list titles, and works-in-progress (WIPs). So, please check out my tease for today and visit the other participating authors listed below.
For today’s post, I’m going to share an excerpt from HIS ALIEN VIRGIN, a New Adult Sci-Fi Romance 1Night Stand story.
“There you are.”
Star snatchers! She struggled in his grip, hoping the gravity of Earth would help her out. “Let me go.”
He squeezed tighter. “I don’t think so. You have some explaining to do.”
There would be no explaining. Daran loosened his grip for a split second, just enough for Skylar to put her feet on the floor and twist around. She jerked her knee, slamming it into his groin. “I won’t go back. You can’t make me.”
His grasp loosened. They both fell to the floor, but she scrambled to her feet. Guilt consumed her for hurting him. But he didn’t understand, didn’t know what that monster she was betrothed to would do to her, how he would treat her.
Keeping her gaze on the man sent to retrieve her, she stepped backward, closer to the stairs. “I’m sorry, Daran, but I refuse to return to Rebed.”
Cupping his groin, he shook his head, tears in his eyes. “Who said anything about Rebed? I just want to know why you’re here. On Earth. Why are you at this hotel to have a one-night stand?”
She halted, but remained ready to flee, her muscles tense. “My brothers didn’t send you? You’re not here to take me back?” Or was he trying to trick her, attempting to get closer before grabbing her again and hauling her back to his ship?
“No.” He stood slowly, as if expecting her to run again if he moved too fast. And maybe she would. One wrong move would be all it took.
“I work at this observatory. But I was also here to meet my date.”
Her heart fluttered. “Me?” Oh, gods, how she wanted to believe him, her fantasies finally come true.
He nodded. “But, as much as I love the fact that Madame Eve thought we’d be good together, I can’t follow through.”
She stared up at him, her chest suddenly heavy. “Why not?” Having Ghorkle change his mind would come as a relief, but Daran’s rejection stung like a dagger to the heart. If he wasn’t going to tow her back, he needed to sweep her off her feet, be the hero she’d always longed for.
“Because of Galan and Volan. They’d kill me if they found out I made love to their little sister.”
~ About HIS ALIEN VIRGIN ~
She is desperately seeking freedom…

Summer Writing Goals ~ Update #2
Hello! Time for this week’s writing update. Once again, I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped. And I’m not going to give excuses.
Beneath the Starry Sky in still in audio book production. No new news.
No news on Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door either. The next round of edits should be arriving in my inbox any time now.
As for Alien Attraction, I started at 10,645 words and finished this week at 13,055, for a total of 2,410 new words. Almost two scenes, or one chapter. The first was the love scene I’d planned to write, and the second scene is another love scene. I’m hoping to finish that chapter this week, and write the next, which has no love scenes, so should be easier to write with my kids around. I hope.

#SFRMonday: No one on Siren is safe ~ OURS TO SAVE by @ShonaHusk #scifirom
Please welcome multi-published author Shona Husk with her sci-fi romance story, Ours To Save.
OURS TO SAVE
ES SIREN 9
by Shona Husk
Some secrets are worth killing to protect…
Micah Stone sees Solitaire as a fresh start. With twenty years’ experience in the agriculture industry, he hopes the colony won’t make the same mistakes that were made on Earth.
To most people, Micah looks like a member of the well educated elite, but he’s really a Gaia activist. Not only did he lie about his daughter’s age to get her on board, but his partner is one of the most dangerous women on Siren.
Felicity Valez was once an Army explosives expert, and she was also a member of the radical Gaia Movement. After being sentenced to life for sedition, she wound up on Siren. To protect her partner and daughter while they’re on board, she needs to make sure that no one links the family together.
But her liaisons with Micah have been noted. And when her daughter’s life is threatened Felicity will do the one thing she promised Micah she’d never do again: rig an explosive that will kill.
No one on Siren is safe.
AVAILABLE FROM
Amazon | Kobo | iBooks | Barnes & Noble
Felicity looked up at the knock on her cell door. It wasn’t exercise or meal time, and it was too early for Micah … besides, he’d only visited two days ago. The knock was more warning than request. The door swung open before she could say anything.
Two male guards stood in the corridor. Beyond them she could hear the voices of the other women. Time out of the cells had been reduced after the riots. This must be their couple of hours of free time. Time she no longer got, even though she’d never joined in with the rioters.
She put her notes about the rivers and underground waterways on Solitaire aside. Awareness prickled down her arms, making the dark hairs spike, but her stare was cold and dead, as though there was nothing but hate inside.
“She’s all yours,” the guard said to the other man. A sergeant. A wiry fellow with shifty eyes and a rather nervous disposition.
Something was off. The sergeant held what looked like a medic’s emergency bag. Her gaze danced to the patches on his uniform. They were correct. The ominous feeling didn’t fade.
“What’s he here for?” She jerked her chin in the medic’s direction.
“Some medical follow-up.” The guard muttered something else, and both men laughed.
She fought to keep her hands unclenched, to appear unthreatened. Smart guards knew that Mr. Stone wouldn’t be happy if someone messed with his piece of tail. She had no idea how Micah had put that word around, but it had worked for the last eleven months. She was hoping that wasn’t about to be tested.
“Won’t take long.” The medic stepped into her cell.
She released a slow breath when the door remained open—not that it meant much, but perhaps she was being overly paranoid.
The medic placed the bag on the small table where she’d been working. “Need yer ‘elp, Felicity.”
Her gaze snapped up. Only Micah called her that.
He placed a hand on her shoulder. “Nadia Kajewski sends ‘er regards. Apologizes for not being ‘ere in person.”
Felicity hadn’t heard that name in ten years. She kept her breathing even and her face fixed to mild distain. Nadia had been part of Gaia when Felicity had been arrested. She’d been smart, and planned many of the more practical jobs. With her engineering background she’d known exactly where the explosives needed to be placed. But Nadia had never gotten her hands dirty, always letting someone else be on the ground.
Nadia was here. How many other Gaia members were on board? She knew there were some. At first they had tried to befriend her, but she’d made it clear that she wasn’t interested. That had been Micah’s idea. They had to distance themselves from Gaia. While in her heart she still believed Gaia was right, Micah had a point. Gaia wasn’t needed on the new world. As long as the elites didn’t try to fuck everyone over again.
“What does she want?” It wasn’t as though Felicity was in a position to refuse. This man had all the weapons a guard should, right down to the electro-whip. Her gaze lingered. If she stole it …
And then what? Where exactly was she going to run to?
There was nowhere to go. She had to serve out her sentence, and pray to whatever gods lived out here that Micah had the pull to get her close to him and Sadie. It would kill her to be in the same small town but to never able to see them. She wanted her lover and her child back.
“Your ‘elp, same as old times.” He opened the bag. The grip on her shoulder tightened. “You scream or say one word and your pretty little daughter gets all kinds of bad things coming her way.” His grip eased. Then he stroked her cheek. “You’re a bit past it, sweetheart.”

“Wait until I’m inside you” #MySexySaturday from MADE FOR HER #eroticromance #scifirom
Hi peeps! It’s the 103rd week of My Sexy Saturday. Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s theme is…
A VERY SEXY TIME
Here’s seven from MADE FOR HER, an erotic sci-fi romance about clones and one of my favorite stories.
Set-up: Mikayla is attracted to Dare, especially since he reminds her of her late husband. But, she is his superior officer, and a clone. On this evening, they have left the flight simulator and Mikayla invites him back to her house. As much as she tries, she cannot deny her desire to be with him.
“Oh God, you’re amazing.”
He grinned. “Wait until I’m fucking you, Colonel Jones.”
Her pussy tightened around his fingers as her moans grew louder.
With each response, he figured out what brought her the most pleasure.
“Dare!”
The walls around his fingers pulsed as her liquid heat drenched them. Removing his digits, he leaned down to taste her. Lapping up her succulent juices, he positioned her legs over his shoulders. He sucked her pink flesh as she squirmed and squealed.
He could savor her for hours. As he plunged his tongue deep inside her, she raised her hips off the couch.
~ About Made For Her ~
After terrorists murder the love of her life, Colonel Mikayla Jones trains squadron after squadron of the clones he brought to life, to take to the skies. When she discovers a young clone of her husband in her newest class, her world spins out of control. How can she command the look-a-like when she can’t help but yearn for him to fill an ache in her heart?
Dare was created to be the best. As the first Daniel clone to leave Onatria labs, he needs to prove he is more than just a DNA copy. To do that, he must rely on the wife of the man who donated his genes. But when she refuses to train him, Dare faces discharge and returning to the labs. Can he convince Colonel Jones to finish his training and find a way into her bed? Or will long kept secrets unhinge the entire clone project?

“It’s not safe for you here with me. I left you alone last night, but, if you stay, I’m not sure I can honor a request to stop a second time.”
“I felt it, too,” she blurted, unable to keep it to herself any longer.
Rekkus moved so fast, she never saw him actually take a step. Strong, wet arms wrapped around her, and her breasts pressed against his chest. His eyes searched hers. He must have seen what he searched for because his lips were on hers with feverous desire before she formed another thought, demanding she open for him. And no part of her considered denying him anything. Butterflies churned in her stomach until she shook. In all the years with Frank, and it had been a great many, she’d never felt this, like fire threatened to engulf her.
Dana wound her arms around his neck, running her fingers through his damp hair and deepening the kiss. His moan allowed her to gather the nerve and strength to urge him forward. He forced her past her comfort zone into accepting the sexy seductress screaming to be let out. She knew what he most desired because she wanted it too. Wanted him, all of him, every naked inch, right there, next to the lake, not even a ten-minute walk from the Haus. Anyone might stumble across them, and she didn’t care. It almost added to the allure of having him. What she needed it to be.

About Gemini:
Being one of the Embassy’s glorified treasure-seekers has its perks…
Komandan Uriah Jacobs recovers ancient artifacts in exchange for more than just decent pay; he also receives guaranteed protection from his former owners, the nyx…until an emergency landing on a too-familiar colony brings him face-to-face with his past life and something more—a surprisingly priceless treasure in the form of a human woman.
A slave to the nyx since childhood…
Shadi spends her waking hours in the forge, dreaming of rescuing her brother with the help of a man she once worshipped like a father. A crashed ship on the colony becomes her only hope to escape. But before she can steal the ship, the pilot abducts her. They may be the same species, but will he help her find her Shilah?
Their attraction is undeniable…
Fighting it seems inconsequential as they evade the nyx’s bounty hunter and uncover a conspiracy that shines unwanted light on Shadi’s past and reveals the corruption in Uri’s beloved Embassy, placing their fledgling love in danger.
As the universe systematically falls apart, will Shadi and Uri’s newfound passion be enough to keep them alive?

She stepped out of his touch, regardless of how much she enjoyed it. All of this was too overwhelming, too much at once. “Why did you take me?” she asked.
A steely mask settled over his face, and the hard glint in his eyes unsettled her. “I’ll tell you over dinner.” He paused. “Which will be here any moment.”
Sure enough, a ding came from the front. Admittedly, she couldn’t wait to try actual human food. At this point, the gloop had to be the only thing keeping her going; she’d given up on the hard biscuits years ago.
Uri disappeared and reappeared just as quickly with two containers and bottles of clear liquid. Not gloop. “Chicken noodle,” he said with a sheepish grin. “Does the body and soul good.”
Whatever that meant.
They found a secluded spot with a small table and sat down. “You owe me a story,” she said.
“I do, indeed.” He opened the lid on one of the containers. “Here.”
The soup smelled like salt. She looked at the bits and pieces floating around in the…stuff.
“Try it,” he urged.
She watched him use a small scoop-like utensil to dip into the container and tried to mimic him. For her troubles, she got a bit of liquid and a green thing. Then she took a small sip and her eyes widened at the taste. So much better than rocks.
“What do you think?”
“It’s good.” Not a strong enough word, but the right one escaped her. Or maybe she didn’t know it yet.
He smiled, and she marveled at how bright it was, how perfect his teeth and…well…him. Suddenly, the gray hair seemed out of place.
Mouth full of soup, she nodded. The green things were delicious.
“When I was fourteen, raiders attacked my colony, searching for a mineral deposit rumored to be hidden in our mountains. Once they discovered we had no such mineral deposit, they chose to take what we had an abundance of—humans, which may have been just as profitable, if not more so. A long and bloody standoff ensued, and enough people died to orphan most of the children. These raiders turned out to be human, too.”
A lump formed in her throat. Suddenly without an appetite, she pushed the bowl to the center of the table and waited for him to either confirm or dispel her fears.
The wait seemed endless while her companion mulled over his words. Indecision dulled his eyes. “Tell me it wasn’t him,” she whispered, unable to bear the silence.
He snapped out of his memory. “I can’t. One of our own suggested selling humans, and Ezra Welles agreed. They turned to the slave trade that day. I hoped they’d find the egregiousness of selling their own kind intolerable, but,” he said with a weary sigh, “I see they haven’t.”
“Ezra wanted to stop,” she blurted. “I know he did.” She wiped tears from her cheeks. “He cried for me and Shilah. He loved us. Swore he’d come back.”
“Even so, he proved he loved money more.”
Enough. Shadi pushed back from the table, unapologetic when a bottle spilled. “You didn’t know him.” Then she stood and headed for the door. Maybe it’d be best if he left her behind after all.
His conscience pushed him to pursue her. Danger lurked in every part of Dalara, and anyone who found her wandering the streets may do worse than tell her the truth about a man she adored.
In a flash, he caught up with her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, and she stopped but didn’t turn around. “I shouldn’t have—”
She whirled around, fire lighting her eyes. Another heartbeat had her raising her fist. In one fluid movement, he pinned her wrists to her sides and pushed her against the wall. And he decided that, yes, even broken, she was beautiful.
“I hate you,” she whispered.
“I don’t blame you.” Whatever he’d gotten himself into, he needed to get himself out—quick—but this girl had already pulled him into her orbit. “Listen to me, Shadi, carefully.” She struggled; he answered by pressing his body flush to hers and she stilled. Mouth next to her ear, he said, “People here will try to hurt you. Hate me all you like, but stay with me until you’re safe.”
Catherine Peace has been telling stories for as long as she could remember. Mid Week Tease from THE POWER OF THREE: “Maybe if he watches?” #MWTease #erotica #menage
Happy Wednesday! I’m excited to share another Mid Week Tease.
Mid Week Tease is an author meme started and hosted by author Sandra Bunino, where authors share snippets from their recent releases, back list titles, and works-in-progress (WIPs). So, please check out my tease for today and visit the other participating authors listed below.
For today’s post, I’m going to share an excerpt from THE POWER OF THREE, which I re-released earlier this month. It is a short and hot paranormal menage story, and available for only 99¢!
Bo stood up, letting the pillow fall to the floor. “Like what you see?”
He smiled, taking in the man’s full figure, each rippled muscle, his thick arms, legs, and luscious cock. “Oh, yeah.”
Delayna giggled again, tossing the sheet aside. She spun around as if eager for him to see all she had to offer.
Yet he already knew and was anxious to sample. Oh, to be sandwiched between these two.
Bo scowled, but his betraying shaft stood even straighter. “So, what the hell do we do now? How do we get you back to wherever-the-fuck you’re from?”
An idea formed in his mind, one that would leave him satisfied in so many ways. These two had set him free from his prison of stone gargoyles. Perhaps they could send him back to his sanctuary as well? “A ménage? It was your combined touch that unleashed me in the first place.”
Bo’s face turned red. With clenched fists, he stepped closer, his nostrils flared. “Get. Out.”
Delayna squeezed between them. If only they could move that position to the bed, against a wall, anywhere.
“Maybe…if he just watches…?” She chewed on her bottom lip, making him yearn for a taste. If her flavor matched her scent, he would sample cherries with every lap of his tongue. Gods, let’s get started.
Bo grabbed her shoulders. “You believe him?”
She nodded. “He appeared out of nowhere. You saw it, too.”
Glancing down at the crumbled statue, Bo sighed.
“It might be exciting to have someone watch us. You always like to try new things.” She stroked his dick then moved to the side, waving Oscar closer. “And maybe you could teach him some of your stellar moves.”
Oscar had been watching long enough to know all the man’s moves. He wanted to experience them for himself, sample every inch of their bodies, but saying so would most likely halt Bo’s evident arousal.
Dropping to her knees, Delayna took her husband’s cock into her mouth.
Oscar moaned, imagining her moist lips circling his own dick. Bo grabbed her hair, thrusting in and out of her mouth. She sucked hard, taking him in all the way to his balls. That-a-girl.
Oscar turned his attention to her rounded backside, wanting to spear her still juicy hole with his straining cock, but would the other man appreciate that yet? Was he ready for a ménage?
Standing up, she nudged her husband onto the bed then crawled on top of him. Oscar groaned, watching the sway of her hips, his erection painful.
~ About THE POWER OF THREE ~
Cursed to live amongst several stone gargoyle statues, Oscar watches a young couple, yearning to participate in their sexual activities. For he has been away from his own lovers for over a year, and longs to touch and be touched again.
When he tumbles off the headboard onto the couple, he is released from the statue but must find a way home. His only thought: a ménage with the man and woman who freed him. But will they try something new to grant him his return passage, or leave him wandering Earth alone?

Five Sexy things to do on a date in #NorthWales by @JoAnneKenrick & #Giveaway! #TemptingSigns #Leo
Top Five sexy things to do on a date in North Wales!By JoAnne Kenrick
1. Visit the Arousal for a “sizzling banger sandwich.” They even do takeaway; arousal to go!
This isn’t what you think it is, but the innuendos that will ensue when you lay eyes on this place is sure to lead to sexy-times. Perfect for a date when you’re ready to “takeaway” to the bedroom.
The “Arousal” should actually be the “Carousal” and is a café in Porthmadog, North Wales. The C has been missing from the café’s signage for as long as I can remember. It does seems as if they like the innuendo and play on it with their sizzling banger sandwich special…or is that just my dirty mind at work?
Not many villages can say their biggest tourist attraction is an arousal. Perhaps Porthmadog is quiet simply the sexiest village in Wales! And yes, this is a real place. Honest.
2. Picnic atop a mountain. Picture the scene: Rolling hills and a beautiful blue sky. You’re lazing on a blanket with your honey as you sip on fine wine and nibble gourmet food. You’re secluded. It’s just you and your lover. Sheep bleeping create the backdrop noise to create the mood, or serve perfectly to drown out your moans of pleasure.
3. Roll in the hay. When I say roll, I mean shag. Duh! When you’re caught out in the heavy rain, which is a given to happen at some point in your date because, you know, it is Wales, just take cover in the nearest barn and have a bloody good roll. You’ll dry off before you know it.
4. Grabbing a bit of crumpet the morning after. Okay, so this innuendo might be lost on non-Brits, but a bit of crumpet has a double meaning a hot chick or grabbing a bit of saucy action on the side. But eating actual crumpets in bed with your lover is sexy, too. Smother on some butter and jam, and let the hot crumpets set the mood for some sweet food play…or simply help you carb up after that roll in the hay. Both options are pretty darn tasty. Who doesn’t love a bit of crumpet in the morning?
5. Have a cup of tea. Yes! Tea is sexy. Tea with biscuits (that’s cookies to Americans) to dunk is very sexy. Dunk those sweet treats and suck them dry. Nothing like a good dunking to get your man in the mood *wink wink*
Want to indulge in sexy times in North Wales? Want to swoon over a rough-around-the-edges Welshman who is just too darn irresistible no matter how much Zoe tries? Well…you should totally pick up BEFORE THE RAIN, a stand-a-lone set in rural North Wales. A sassy newly unemployed and single Southerner from Atlanta heads to Wales for a man-free break to find her own inspiration to write words…instead, she falls for the rustic charm of the land and her very gruff and Welsh land lord. Trouble, of course, ensues.
Three fiancés in three years makes Zoe Chantilly’s relationship column for the Georgia Times her only semblance of commitment…that is until her dating advice takes a dive down the Suwannee and she’s fired.
Unemployed and single, she leaves the sweltering heat of the south and heads to the UKfor a man-free break from life. The plan? Get with nature, write a novel, and be alone. Be very much alone. But nature has other plans for Zoe.
Navigating the backcountry roads of Wales seems just as complicated as her love life. A near-collision hones her desires in on Dylan Mostyn, a Leo seething with a raw prowess and macho magnetism the Aquarius in her can’t resist.
This Welshman is as arrogant as he is gorgeous. He’s also her landlord. The undeniable and thunderous attraction between them pinnacles during a karaoke duet at the village fete, but what starts as a no-strings fling quickly spirals toward dangerous ground.

Summer Writing Goals ~ Update #1
Hello! Time for this week’s writing update. So, while I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped, I did accomplish more this week than the last.
Beneath the Starry Sky in still in production, but I’ve heard from the narrator/producer who has finished recording and is having the files edited.
I received the first round of edits for Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door , completed them, and sent them back to my editor. I should have the next round in my inbox to work on this coming weekend.
As for Alien Attraction, I started at 7,916 words and finished this week at 10,645, for a total of 2,729 new words. Three scenes, or 1-1/2 chapters. I’m hoping to double this count for next week. Though, the next scene I have to write is a love scene. Here’s hoping the kids cooperate so I can get it written.

#SFRMonday: Healing and Love in the Outer Rim ~ THE PROTECTOR by @DMBurton72 #scifirom
Please welcome back Diane Burton back to my blog with her brand new release, The Protector!
Thanks, Jessica, for inviting to me today. I’m excited to tell you and your readers about my new release. First, I have a question. What would you do if your daughter disappeared?
I have a daughter and two granddaughters. I cannot imagine the anguish I would feel if any of them had been kidnapped as babies. Yet my imagination is what I had to use to convey how my character, Rissa, felt years after her baby was stolen by traffickers. For seven of those years, she searched colonies on the Outer Rim, cities in the Central District, followed leads that led to more leads that dead-ended. The constant worry about her baby’s whereabouts, her safety ate into Rissa so much she had to shut down. She closed herself off from children, especially babies.
Then the impossible happened. Twenty years later, she had a chance to redeem herself by rescuing two teenage girls from slavers.
That’s how my science fiction romance THE PROTECTOR begins.
THE PROTECTOR
by Diane Burton
After tavern owner Rissa Dix rescues two girls from a slave ship, she must rally the townsfolk to prevent traffickers from raiding the frontier colony. She’s met with apathy and disbelief. Because she lost her own baby to traffickers, she’s determined that no other mother will suffer the same heartache. Industrialist heir Dillan Rusteran aids her in rescuing more children. Little do they know they’re about to tangle with a trafficking ring that puts Rissa in danger. Dillan’s loved her for years despite her claim she’s too old for him. As they fight the traffickers, will she finally see him in a new light?

Rissa stepped away from the sanitary facility partition. “Whoever you are, come out. Right now.”
Another rustle then the sound of feet lightly hitting the floor. The lock slid open then slowly the door moved.
“Please,” a soft voice whispered. “Don’t hurt us.”
That sounded like a young girl.
“Come out where I can see you.” Rissa, too, whispered.
A tall, dark-haired teen stepped out, followed by a smaller girl with light brown hair. They both looked terrified. Their hair was matted and dirt smudged their faces. Their clothes were filthy. The smells emanating from them contributed to the general san-fac odors. Rissa did her best not to react.
Holding the other girl behind her, the tall one stepped forward, jutting out her chin. “We are not going back.”
“O-kay. Back where?”
“You can’t make us. We’ll escape again.”
Rissa had to admire her bravado. “You escaped? From where?”
“Did they send you in here to get us?”
Since the taller one seemed to be the spokesperson, Rissa kept her eyes on her. Something about her was compelling. Rissa could be looking at herself at the same age. Then it hit her hard, like a blow to the stomach. That was what Miri would have looked like at that age. Same strong Traishan features—olive skin, dark hair and eyes. Same strong will.
Rissa took a deep breath to steady herself before locking the outer door. “Nobody sent me. You asked for help. What can I do?”
“Get us out of here before they discover we’re gone.” Despite the strength in the tall girl’s voice, she worked hard to keep her chin from wobbling.
“Who?” Rissa was afraid she knew.
“Those men. The Chellians. We can’t go back. We won’t.”
By the Matriarch, traffickers.
Her lungs seized, her heart hurt so badly Rissa clutched her chest. Be strong, she told herself. Pull yourself together. No traffickers had ever come to Astron Colony before. Or even to Galeriana. She had to help the girls get away.
She glanced at the window on the far wall.
“We couldn’t open it,” the smaller girl sobbed. “We were trying when you came in. We thought you were them.”
Since Rissa was taller, she could easily reach the window. With a shove, she got it open. “Come.” She motioned to the tall girl. “You first. You can catch your friend. She’s too small to catch you.”
She cupped her hands for the girl’s foot. “Hide outside. I’ll come around and take you somewhere safe.” At the girls’ wary looks, she added, “I promise. Now go before someone comes looking for us.”
Rissa boosted her up to the open window. The tall girl hoisted herself through, disappeared for a moment then stuck her head inside.
“The ground is higher out here. Come, Anaris.” She held out her arms.
The small girl, Anaris, gave Rissa a panicked look. “You’ll come for us?”
The door rattled. “Hey,” a male yelled. “Open up.”
Anaris gave her a panicked look.
“Gimme a min,” Rissa yelled back.
“I promise to come for you,” Rissa whispered then gave her a boost. Like the tall girl, Anaris disappeared through the window.
As Rissa reached to close it, the tall girl was there about to do the same. “Thank you.” She shut the window and ducked out of sight.
Hoping they would wait for her, Rissa walked out of the san-fac. A mech glared at her. “Whadda mean by locking the door?”
“Didn’t want you walking in on me.” She glanced over at a commotion near the freighter where she’d delivered the supplies. “What’s going?”
The pilot was yelling and his two crewmen were darting between ships, searching.
“Damn offworlder.” The mech brushed past her into the san-fac.
When the pilot saw her, he yelled, “What did you do with them?”
Rissa looked around to see who he was shouting at.
“You there.” He stormed up to her. “Where are those two girls?”
She affected a confused expression. “What girls?”
“My cargo, I mean passengers. Damn you to Lexol’s Fire. How did you get them out?”
The pilot’s slip confirmed what Rissa feared. The girls she helped escape had been cargo. The pilot and crew were slavers, bastards who trafficked in children. A primal urge swept through her. Kill them. Kill them now.
