Summer Writing Goals ~ Update #1
Hello! Time for this week’s writing update. So, while I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped, I did accomplish more this week than the last.
Beneath the Starry Sky in still in production, but I’ve heard from the narrator/producer who has finished recording and is having the files edited.
I received the first round of edits for Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door , completed them, and sent them back to my editor. I should have the next round in my inbox to work on this coming weekend.
As for Alien Attraction, I started at 7,916 words and finished this week at 10,645, for a total of 2,729 new words. Three scenes, or 1-1/2 chapters. I’m hoping to double this count for next week. Though, the next scene I have to write is a love scene. Here’s hoping the kids cooperate so I can get it written.

#SFRMonday: Healing and Love in the Outer Rim ~ THE PROTECTOR by @DMBurton72 #scifirom
Please welcome back Diane Burton back to my blog with her brand new release, The Protector!
Thanks, Jessica, for inviting to me today. I’m excited to tell you and your readers about my new release. First, I have a question. What would you do if your daughter disappeared?
I have a daughter and two granddaughters. I cannot imagine the anguish I would feel if any of them had been kidnapped as babies. Yet my imagination is what I had to use to convey how my character, Rissa, felt years after her baby was stolen by traffickers. For seven of those years, she searched colonies on the Outer Rim, cities in the Central District, followed leads that led to more leads that dead-ended. The constant worry about her baby’s whereabouts, her safety ate into Rissa so much she had to shut down. She closed herself off from children, especially babies.
Then the impossible happened. Twenty years later, she had a chance to redeem herself by rescuing two teenage girls from slavers.
That’s how my science fiction romance THE PROTECTOR begins.
THE PROTECTOR
by Diane Burton
After tavern owner Rissa Dix rescues two girls from a slave ship, she must rally the townsfolk to prevent traffickers from raiding the frontier colony. She’s met with apathy and disbelief. Because she lost her own baby to traffickers, she’s determined that no other mother will suffer the same heartache. Industrialist heir Dillan Rusteran aids her in rescuing more children. Little do they know they’re about to tangle with a trafficking ring that puts Rissa in danger. Dillan’s loved her for years despite her claim she’s too old for him. As they fight the traffickers, will she finally see him in a new light?

Rissa stepped away from the sanitary facility partition. “Whoever you are, come out. Right now.”
Another rustle then the sound of feet lightly hitting the floor. The lock slid open then slowly the door moved.
“Please,” a soft voice whispered. “Don’t hurt us.”
That sounded like a young girl.
“Come out where I can see you.” Rissa, too, whispered.
A tall, dark-haired teen stepped out, followed by a smaller girl with light brown hair. They both looked terrified. Their hair was matted and dirt smudged their faces. Their clothes were filthy. The smells emanating from them contributed to the general san-fac odors. Rissa did her best not to react.
Holding the other girl behind her, the tall one stepped forward, jutting out her chin. “We are not going back.”
“O-kay. Back where?”
“You can’t make us. We’ll escape again.”
Rissa had to admire her bravado. “You escaped? From where?”
“Did they send you in here to get us?”
Since the taller one seemed to be the spokesperson, Rissa kept her eyes on her. Something about her was compelling. Rissa could be looking at herself at the same age. Then it hit her hard, like a blow to the stomach. That was what Miri would have looked like at that age. Same strong Traishan features—olive skin, dark hair and eyes. Same strong will.
Rissa took a deep breath to steady herself before locking the outer door. “Nobody sent me. You asked for help. What can I do?”
“Get us out of here before they discover we’re gone.” Despite the strength in the tall girl’s voice, she worked hard to keep her chin from wobbling.
“Who?” Rissa was afraid she knew.
“Those men. The Chellians. We can’t go back. We won’t.”
By the Matriarch, traffickers.
Her lungs seized, her heart hurt so badly Rissa clutched her chest. Be strong, she told herself. Pull yourself together. No traffickers had ever come to Astron Colony before. Or even to Galeriana. She had to help the girls get away.
She glanced at the window on the far wall.
“We couldn’t open it,” the smaller girl sobbed. “We were trying when you came in. We thought you were them.”
Since Rissa was taller, she could easily reach the window. With a shove, she got it open. “Come.” She motioned to the tall girl. “You first. You can catch your friend. She’s too small to catch you.”
She cupped her hands for the girl’s foot. “Hide outside. I’ll come around and take you somewhere safe.” At the girls’ wary looks, she added, “I promise. Now go before someone comes looking for us.”
Rissa boosted her up to the open window. The tall girl hoisted herself through, disappeared for a moment then stuck her head inside.
“The ground is higher out here. Come, Anaris.” She held out her arms.
The small girl, Anaris, gave Rissa a panicked look. “You’ll come for us?”
The door rattled. “Hey,” a male yelled. “Open up.”
Anaris gave her a panicked look.
“Gimme a min,” Rissa yelled back.
“I promise to come for you,” Rissa whispered then gave her a boost. Like the tall girl, Anaris disappeared through the window.
As Rissa reached to close it, the tall girl was there about to do the same. “Thank you.” She shut the window and ducked out of sight.
Hoping they would wait for her, Rissa walked out of the san-fac. A mech glared at her. “Whadda mean by locking the door?”
“Didn’t want you walking in on me.” She glanced over at a commotion near the freighter where she’d delivered the supplies. “What’s going?”
The pilot was yelling and his two crewmen were darting between ships, searching.
“Damn offworlder.” The mech brushed past her into the san-fac.
When the pilot saw her, he yelled, “What did you do with them?”
Rissa looked around to see who he was shouting at.
“You there.” He stormed up to her. “Where are those two girls?”
She affected a confused expression. “What girls?”
“My cargo, I mean passengers. Damn you to Lexol’s Fire. How did you get them out?”
The pilot’s slip confirmed what Rissa feared. The girls she helped escape had been cargo. The pilot and crew were slavers, bastards who trafficked in children. A primal urge swept through her. Kill them. Kill them now.

While she rests, the men will play in CRASH LANDING #MySexySaturday #erotica #GLBTQ
Hello all! Thank you all for joining me for week 102 of My Sexy Saturday! The deets: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s theme is…
OUR SEXY PLACE!
I re-released three short stories last week, and when I learned of the theme for this week, I knew of the perfect story to share. So, here’s seven from Crash Landing Enjoy!
Set-up: After a whirlwind evening with Mare and Tara, Cael gets to know Mare on a more personal basis.
He sat beside the man on a wooden table, the boards rough on his bare ass. Coniferous trees surrounded them, except for a path leading to a crystal blue body of water, the moon reflected on its surface. Had that been where he’d landed? “Have you always lived on Earth? I mean, when I studied the planet, I didn’t remember learning about inhabitants such as yourself.”
Mare shook his head. “No. Like you, I’m from a far away planet. I was…shunned from my water world for loving the wrong woman and launched into space.” He pointed down the path. “My prison pod landed at the edge of the lake. Tara found me seconds from death. She nursed me back to health in her tub.”
Cael furrowed his brows. “How did she know how to help us? Does she have a whole collection of visitors from space?”
The man leaned back, laughter erupting from deep within. “No, we’re the only two. She’s a veterinarian, an animal doctor. Somehow she knew how to bring us back to life. She’s simply amazing.”
Guilt rolled through Cael’s stomach. He could see the admiration the other man had for the Terran. How could he intrude on what these two had? “She is, but you’re leaving her alone with me. Aren’t you worried?”
“Not at all.” Mare smiled, returning his hand to Cael’s thigh, an inch from his dick. “I trust you will take care of her until I return, and I will have as much fun with you as I do with her.”
His cock jumped at the huskiness in the other man’s voice. The alien’s webbed fingers surrounded his shaft, drawing the foreskin on and off his swollen peak. Instant desire burned through his veins. He longed for the man to take him again before he left.
~ About CRASH LANDING ~
As his ship plummets toward Earth, Cael believes his life to be over. His last ditch effort to save himself ends in a fiery crash. When he wakes up, he believes he’s entered the afterlife, but his surroundings indicate otherwise. He made it to Earth. But who saved him, and what do they want with him?

There was no way she’d tell Melissa she had the hots for her oldest brother. “All is good. Is there anything I can help you with, though? I waited tables once. A lot of years ago, but I’d be happy to help.” Besides, it would get her mind off the hot-blooded male behind the bar who made her want to hop over it and take him right there. A full room of customers or not.
“No. Absolutely not. I didn’t ask you to meet me here so I could put you to work.” Melissa glanced over her shoulder when one of the customers yelled for her and raised one finger. She turned back to Candy. “Maybe we should meet tomorrow?”
Candy nodded. “Sounds good. Come by my hotel, okay? But for now,” she slid from the booth, “put me to work. What can I do?”
Melissa stood and hugged her, then pointed to the corner. “Well, I’m behind in getting out more nuts. The bowls on the bar and tables need refilling. I have enough to get some done now, but we’ll be closing in an hour and will need more. If you don’t mind, could you grab some?”
“Not at all.”
“Thank you so much. They’re on the very back wall, third shelf from the bottom.” Another customer hollered for Melissa’s attention. “Thanks again,” she said before hurrying off.
The girl was meant for bigger and better. Not that there was anything wrong with working hard for a living, but her long and lean figure, her regal neckline and great posture would be better served on a runway or in a magazine than hustling from table to table.
She strode across the room to the side door Melissa had directed her to. The door was ajar, held open with a small wooden crate. She pushed the crate inside and entered, shutting the door behind her.
“Damn it. Who let the door close? Drew, fuck, you know better.” The masculine voice from somewhere in the back startled her. Thankfully she recognized the voice or she’d have been screaming bloody murder about being locked in a room with a stranger.
“Sorry, Eric. It’s Candy. I closed the door.” She moved further into the room and around one large utility shelving unit.
“Christ, what the hell are you doing in here?”
She found him near the back wall, piling boxes of what looked like the nuts she had to find on a small cart.
“I was giving Melissa a hand.” She pointed at the item in his hand. “I was going to take them out for her, for after closing, and give her a hand.”
He snorted, set down the case and reached for another one. “I don’t think a woman like you would be into this type of work. Don’t want you breaking a nail or anything like that.”
“Oh shut up, dickhead. You’re so pompous.”
He raised his head and glared at her.
“Don’t look at me like that, either. I’m no stranger to hard work.” She scanned the room. Jesus, wasn’t there air-conditioning in this little closet? She pulled at the neckline of her scoop neck top. “Anything else I can help with?”
Eric set aside the last case and leaned against the shelf. His arms crossed over his chest, and Candy tried to ignore the bulging biceps that stood out beneath the sleeves of his grey t-shirt.
Ah, hell.
Her heart skipped and her pussy throbbed. Just when she thought she’d shoved the need for him aside, he had to go and look all manly and tasty standing there.
“I thought you were here to whisk my sister off somewhere?” She hated that he could see right through her plans. “Or are you here for a job? No longer young enough for those crazy sharks in magazines these days?”
Oh the bastard knew how to cut her to the quick. She wasn’t a washed-up has-been, but her time in the fashion and modeling limelight had come and gone. “You really need to let go of that high-and-mighty attitude. You know nothing about me. Now,” she waved her arms, “anything here need to be taken out front?”
He smirked, and she wanted to slap him. But he shrugged and pointed to the shelf above her head. “I need that red box there brought down. The blue one beside it too. They aren’t heavy, just napkins.”
She nodded and lifted her arms. In her six-inch heels it was hard to reach so high, and she widened her stance for better balance. The tips of her fingers eased the red box closer to the edge for her to grab the sides. She lowered it and set it on the stack of cases he had on the cart.
“I’m glad I can help. Melissa looked a bit frazzled out there. She is a hard worker.”
He coughed. “We all grew up working hard.”
Candy reached for the blue box and nodded. “It seems like a great family unit that you all have.” Crap, this one was a bit farther back. She felt a breeze cross her skin as her top rose, baring her midriff. She wobbled on her heels. Shit. That’s all she needed was to fall on her ass while in a skirt and look like a fool.
Warm hands suddenly circled her waist. Gasping, she drew in a deep breath and grabbed on to the shelf with both hands as he touched her.
“Easy there, darlin’. Those heels aren’t exactly made for working.” His searing breath washed over her neck. Electric currents spread along her skin, igniting and firing to life. Goddamn, goddamn.

Mid Week Tease from ALIEN LOVER: “I want to taste you.” #MWTease #scifi #erotica
Happy Wednesday! I have another Mid Week Tease post for you! So, please check out my tease for today and visit the other participating authors listed below.
For today’s post, I’m going to share an excerpt from ALIEN LOVER, which I re-released last week. It is a short and hot sci-fi romance, and available for only 99¢!
“What did you go through?” He’d been out there alone, for over a year.
Drawing his thumbs along her inner thighs, he shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. The point is I found you. And now I’m going to enjoy my treasure.”
That meant her torture. He’d take her all the way to the brink of an explosive orgasm, only to leave her hanging. Yet, when he finally granted her release, she would be clinging to the edge of sanity.
With a devious grin, he licked his lips. “Open up, baby, because I want to taste you.”
Even before she spread her legs, she creamed, anxious for his tongue to graze her clit. As he penetrated her with his thick finger, she shuddered. Two fingers and he filled her. Three fingers…holy fuck!
Planting her feet on the floor, she rode his digits. Harder and harder. With every plunge, he hit her G-spot, leaving her head spinning. But he stole the control from her, lifting her legs into the air and nibbling her ass cheeks to continue his torment. Pressure built deep inside her until she was aware of nothing but the fullness of her pussy and the sweet pain from his nips on her butt. One flick of his tongue against her swollen nub was all it took to end the agony. No waiting this time. She exploded with blinding fury. “Oh gods.”
He continued to stroke inside her. She shuddered, riding the last waves of her release. Her body shook, whimpers escaping from deep inside.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” He scooped her up in his arms and cradled her against his body.
She’d longed for such an intense release ever since he’d kissed her goodbye on the tarmac. Now that she’d found it, her mind filled with confusion. “Why…why did you take so long to find me?”

Summer Writing Goals
Summer is a difficult time for me to get any writing done with my children not at school. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t have deadlines and goals to work around. So, I’ve decided to make myself more accountable to how much I’m getting done.
The group of local authors I meet with on a regular basis has decided to report how much we’ve written each week. They are reporting on Mondays, but because I feature other authors for #SFRMonday on Mondays, I will be reporting my progress late Monday evenings / early Tuesday mornings.
At the moment, I have the audio book of Beneath the Starry Sky in production, Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door in edits, and I’m writing Alien Attraction (Alien Next Door #3).
As for Alien Attraction, my goal is 25,000 words. I am at 7,916 words as of Sunday evening. And I’m hoping to finish this story and have off to the editor by the end of August.
Here we go!

#SFRMonday: Spin across the galaxy in GRAND MASTER’S GAME by @AuroraSpringer #scifirom
Please welcome Aurora Springer with her new release, Grand Master’s Game.
GRAND MASTER’S GAME
Book 2 of Grand Masters Trilogy
by Aurora Springer
Spin across the galaxy as Violet and her Grand Master hunt their enemies.
Cracks in the portal web threaten galactic civilization, and suspicions fall on the mysterious Grand Masters with their immense psychic powers. Once, there were twelve Grand Masters, humans and aliens, on the Council. Now there are eleven. One was killed when the young pawn, Violet, rescued her Grand Master, Athanor, from the Red Queen’s dungeon. The Red Queen fled the fight and now she lurks out of sight, regenerating her energies.
Athanor devises a risky plan to expose his enemies on the Council and force the Red Queen into the open. His strategy will employ Violet’s empathic skills as his secret weapon. Meanwhile, she wrestles with her erratic talents and doubts about their unequal partnership. In their search for revenge, they contend with the portal crisis, psychic traps and hostile aliens. In the inevitable battle of Grand Masters, Violet and Athanor each will face their worst nightmares. What is the sacrifice for victory?
Available from: Amazon
The spinning ceased. They had arrived at the destination. Kondric pushed the portal door open and stepped out onto a narrow shelf of rock. An icy wind roared into the cylinder from a murky gray sky.
Kondric recoiled, yelling, “This isn’t Avalon!” A fit of coughing convulsed his face and he tottered on the edge of the cliff. The Grand Master grabbed his arm and pulled him back into the cylinder. Holding his breath, Kondric pulled on the headpiece of his suit.
The frigid air stunk of rotten eggs. Violet gagged and blocked her nose. She sensed Athanor expand his shield to envelop the three of them. As a further precaution, she reattached the breather on her suit.
“The atmosphere is deadly,” Athanor said.
The lights on the control panel clicked off. The portal had died. With a squeak of alarm, Violet gripped Athanor’s arm. They stood on an unknown frozen planet with a toxic atmosphere, overlooking a bottomless precipice.
“Where are we?” she breathed.
No one answered.
Standing at the rear of the precarious ledge, Violet leaned against Athanor’s warm body and squinted through the gloomy atmosphere. The portal perched on a cliff surrounded by roiling umber clouds. Frozen peaks stabbed into the horizon. Far below the clouds, blue green spikes protruded from a glassy blue lake. Ice pillars carved into fantastic shapes were reflected in the mirror of the lake.
Overhead, jagged lightning zipped from the ominous black clouds and struck the frozen peaks. A fountain of water vapor sprayed into the sky. Cracks snapped across a pillar of ice. The severed top tumbled slowly into the lake and the splash rippled outward in concentric circles. Winds roared through the peaks, spinning dark streaks of cloud across the sky towards their shaky perch.
The hazy black swirls fired an alarm in Violet’s mind. “Athanor, it’s the black dust. Port us out of here!” she shouted, fearing the clouds contained the horrid dust that suppressed his telekinesis.
“Hades!” he grunted. Quickly checking that they were linked together, the Grand Master tapped his insert and they flipped into the soundless void. To Violet’s amusement, Kondric’s mouth had frozen open in a cry of shock. She and Athanor had slipped into their customary half embrace.
They popped out beside the teleportal cylinder in the central square of the main town of Avalon. Violet inhaled the flower-scented air and relaxed.

Tips and Tricks: How to make a PDF readable on your #Kindle #amreading
If you have a Kindle, and buy ebooks from other retailers, or receive ebooks from authors and promotional companies to review, you likely know how to sideload titles onto your Kindle.
For those who don’t, here’s a quick run down…
In your “Manage You Content and Devices” page of your Amazon account, click on “Settings”. Then scroll down to “Personal Document Settings” to get your Kindle email address (…@kindle.com). You may have more than one if you have multiple devices registered to your account. I suggest picking the device you use most often.
Still on “Settings”, scroll down a touch more to “Approved Personal Document E-mail List”. Click on “Add a new approved e-mail address” and enter your regular (non-kindle) email address as well as those of anyone else who might be sending you ebook files.
If you buy from other retailers, they will tell you what email address to approve to you can send “Direct to Kindle” once you purchase an ebook. I do this when purchasing ebooks from All Romance eBooks and Coffee Time Romance.
Okay, now you’re ready to send yourself PDF files.
1. From your email account, start a new message. Use your Kindle email (…@kindle.com) to send the message to.
2. IMPORTANT!! When sending a PDF, put “convert” (without the quotes) in the subject line.
3. Attach your PDF file that you want to send to your Kindle. You do not need to add anything to the body of your message.
4. Send the message.
Note: The PDF file that arrives on your device won’t be as pretty as a MOBI or PRC file that you send. You won’t have a cover to identity the book. But, it will be much easier to read and apply bookmarks than if you send a PDF without “convert” in the subject line.

His Sexy Woman in ALIEN ADMIRER for week 101 of #MySexySaturday #scifirom #AlienNextDoor
Hello all! Thank you all for joining me for the 101st week of My Sexy Saturday! The deets: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s theme is…
MY SEXY WOMAN!
As I am working on the third story in this trilogy, I thought I’d share seven from ALIEN ADMIRER, the second story. Enjoy!
Set-up: Adam has admired Sera from afar for too long. He’s done waiting around and tired of her excuses.
What is it going to take to convince her I want her? On the ride home, he’d persuaded himself to give up on Sera. Until he’d seen her on the porch. He had to seize what might be his lone opportunity.
“Why do you have such a problem accepting that I’m attracted to you?”
She faced him again, her cheeks glowing with color. “I don’t have a problem with that. In fact, I’m flattered. I have a problem with how much I’m attracted to you, how even on my date, I couldn’t get you out of my head.”
It was all the invitation he needed. Closing the space between them, he held her, pressing his lips to hers. Sera moaned, her body tight against his. She didn’t push him away, instead wrapping her arms around him, running her foot up and down the back of his calf.
He clutched her thighs, pulling her up to straddle his waist. Every moan encouraged him to keep going. He wanted more.
“Inside,” she said in a breathless whisper. “Take me into the house.”
~ About ALIEN ADMIRER ~
He fills her with forbidden longing…
Widowed for over a year, Sera longs for the company of her younger, sexier neighbor, the one man she can never have—unless she plans to rob the cradle. It’s too dangerous…
She’s the only one for him…
Adam never wanted to settle down…until Sera. But even when her children give him the green light, he must prove age is an alien concept…
Will Sera give him a chance, or will Adam be left in the cold, never more than her alien admirer?
