OUR SEXY NEW YEAR

As the New Year starts, what’s more fun than thinking about all those New Year resolutions. Or not. How about those things your characters did at the holiday parties? Or how about that person they woke up next to and don’t remember a thing? Yeah, this week it’s more than just resolutions we’re thinking about here. We’re thinking a little about those resolutions but more about the impossible situations characters have found themselves in and the stories revolving around either. It could also be about all the great things that have happened as well. After all, some of those off-kilter things just might have turned into something beautiful.

This week, I’m sharing seven from ACCIDENTAL ROMANCE. While it doesn’t start in the new year, Leanne does find herself in an impossible situation.

Set-up: In this New Adult Romance, Leanne has lost her hand in a grain auger accident. Though, she thought her dreams of taking over the dairy farm for her father are over, the farmhand, Jake, won’t let her give up.

“I’m sure you can do many things once you get used to—”

She spun around at his truck. “What? My hand being gone? It’s a hard enough thing to say, let alone get used to.” If only she could go back in time, somehow prevent what had happened to her. She never should have borrowed that ancient auger. And sticking a branch in to get the intake unclogged was a stupid idea. She’d been trained from the first time her dad took her on a ride-along that the tractor always has to be turned off before removing debris from any equipment. But she’d been in such a hurry…. She swallowed the lump in her throat. It was her own fault she had no hand.

“No, I was going to say me being constantly by your side. Because, no matter how much you object, I’m going to have you working in the barns. You’re not giving up on your dreams.” He opened the passenger door for her.

Fuming, she stepped up and inside, mad at herself and him. Why didn’t he understand how difficult things would be for her now? Even strapping herself in proved tricky. She struggled with the buckle, fighting to line the two ends up with only her left hand. Finally, she clicked them together and leaned back in the seat. This is only the beginning.

Jake closed the door and got in on the driver’s side, tossing her luggage into the backseat. “And if you don’t show up, I’ll come get you and throw you over my shoulder to carry you out there.”

She pursed her lips to hide a smile, remembering him doing so once before when they’d been horsing around. She really would miss working with him. But she couldn’t do the things she used to. “I can’t.”

“So, what are you going to do all day? Sit on your ass? That’s not like you, LA.” He started the truck and drove out of the parking lot with a heavy foot. “You can’t stop living because one of your hands is gone.”

I’ve been seated among the dozens of other passengers for the past two hours, watching the gate times change a number of times before I see the plane actually arrive. Just as I’m powering my phone down, preparing to board, an awful stench burns my nose from a few inches away. A middle-aged man with greasy black hair and a thick lip-covering mustache who smells exactly like the inside of a port-a-potty has found a reason to sit directly beside me in a row of empty seats. When my eyes unfortunately meet his, he takes the opportunity to speak to me. “Heading to Boston?” he asks. I raise my eyebrows and force a tightlipped smile. I simply follow that with a nod and give him a no shit look. “I heard winter’s coming early this year,” he continues.

“Cool,” I mumble with a sigh. I pull a magazine out of my bag and open it in front of my face, hoping to block my vision of the man’s blackened-stained grin. But it’s only seconds before I’m taken back when his finger sweeps down the bare skin of my collarbone.

“What does that mean?” he asks, pointing to my tattoo.

With a smooth motion, I lay my magazine down onto my lap and place my hand over his, giving him the false notion that I’m a gentle person. I take the opportunity to offer him a slight smile before I twist his forefinger backwards as far as it will go before the expectant snap. “I’m sorry,” I say sweetly. “Did I tell you it was okay to touch me?” I pull down a little harder, and he smiles in response to the pain. But as I hold my hand there, I see the smile begin to fade.

“It’s a free country, chicky,” he sputters as his tongue knocks around between his bare gums.

“Why would you think it’s okay to touch me?” I ask again, keeping my voice calm, yet stern. He licks his lips and looks me up and down, responding with only a look. “Do you go around touching girls half your age because you feel it’s okay?”

He clears his throat and looks around to see who’s watching or listening, but I don’t move my eyes from his. “Why not?” he says, shrugging his bony shoulders. “Besides, you’re definitely asking for it.”

He thinks I’m asking for it? I’m wearing a fucking scoop neck, black long sleeve shirt, jeans, and combat boots. “The only reason it’s okay, is because no one has ever probably told you no. But it occurs to me that after I snap your finger off your hand, you won’t be able to touch people inappropriately anymore, will you?”

He hoots with laughter, dragging in attention he probably shouldn’t want. “You think you could break my finger, little chicklette?”

I pull his finger a little further, and his smile grows. “Ow, stop. You’re hurting me,” he puckers his lips and winks at me.

“Oh, look, it’s your right hand. You a righty?” I turn his hand over and see deep callouses bubbling on his palm. “Yes, you are. So, if I rip this thing off, you wouldn’t miss it, right?” I turn his hand back over and glare into his beady eyes. He’s questioning my words. He’s unsure of my capabilities. And that’s fine. “Sound okay to you? Or are you going to leave and stop touching people?” His smile fades and his eyes widen. I release his hand and offer him a smart-ass smile. “Oh, and the tattoo means death. It’s a Maori Warrior symbol. They used to eat their enemies once they slaughtered them. Cool, huh?”

I see his Adam’s apple struggle to move. He lifts his bag from the ground and nearly trips over his own feet, darting away.

I reopen my magazine to the page I was reading and refocus my attention on an article as I hear a soft chuckle coming from the other side of me. I turn to see who was enjoying the free entertainment and I’m faced with a man who looks to be either a wrestler or in the military–black shaven hair, stiff jaw and bulging muscles on every inch of his arms. His eyes are currently focused on a book, and I suppose he could have been laughing at that, rather than me. But as I question it, his large shamrock green eyes lift and look right at me. A slight grin tugs on the corner of his lips, and he winks so quickly I’m questioning whether it was me who might have blinked. Before I can react, he stands up and walks away.

I swallow hard and refocus my attention on the magazine once more. Stupid attractive man causing a moment of feebleness. I didn’t react, though. He winked at me. I think. And I didn’t make a snide comment or scowl. Weakness.

I let out a few short breaths, regaining my composure. He’s gone. It’s fine.

Grayson smiled. “That went better than I thought it would. At least you didn’t bolt at the first sign of a messy emotion.”

Waves of pleasure radiated out from his touch. She looked up into his eyes. They truly were the greenest eyes she’d ever seen and as she watched, they began to glow.

Oh, shit. Dani took a slow, shaky breath. She stood in the arms of an alien and this was the point of no return. Did she want to return?

His thumb brushed her lower lip.

The heat in her grew.

“Dani?”

Her name was a rumbling growl that reverberated deep inside. She tingled everywhere.

He leaned forward, his mouth brushed her ear. “I’ll leave if you want me to, just say the word.”

He kissed her neck, tentatively, questioningly.  The heat of his lips melted any resolve she may have harbored. The thought of him leaving her now, in this state, was unbearable. Aroused on every level, she reached her arms around his neck and pressed against him.

This must be a dream. She moaned as he nipped his way down her neck causing little sparks of pain. Her entire body rippled with the effect. If I wake up now, I’m killing the person responsible. 

 

Sabine grew up in Phoenix, but has lived in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Texas, Massachusetts and Florida. She has a BS in Electrical Engineering Technologies and did everything but her thesis for a Masters degree in Cultural Anthropology, looking at the nexus of culture and technology. She was a Project Manager flying back and forth between Tucson and Boston when she met her very own alien. #SFRMonday ~ 10 Sci-Fi and Dystopian Movies to watch in 2015

Hello everyone! I’m going to kick off #SFRMonday with a look at this year’s Sci-Fi movies to be released. (Next week I will start featuring Sci-Fi Romance books from a multitude of authors.) I try and do this movie list every year and let you know how many of the previous year’s Sci-Fi movies that I did watch. You can find my list from 2014 here.

Of the fourteen movies on last year’s list, I went to the theater to watch five of them: Divergent, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Maze Runner. All fabulous movies! Plus, I saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles twice. Would you count that as sci-fi? I tried to watch Interstellar, but it had left the local theater by the time I had a chance to go. Plus, Home and Jupiter Ascending didn’t release last year, but will release in 2015. Yay! I do plan on catching those I missed at the theater on video or Netflix. I know I saw Under the Skin there already.

Happy New Year! Goals for 2015…

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well after celebrating the New Year. Yep, it’s 2015 and time for me to set some goals. While I didn’t have as many releases in 2015 as I had hoped, I did get involved in some new publishing areas, as in multi-author box sets and audiobooks.

For 2015, I will have at least one audiobook release (The Star Princess) and possibly a 1Night Stand story. I will be participating in more of Anastasia Vitsky’s spanking events with FREE short stories and the resulting box sets, finishing up stories long ago started, and writing one or two new titles.

To write for 2015:

F/F space academy story for a secret project
Alien Attraction (Alien Next Door #3) – once this is out, I will put all three in a digital bundle and in a paperback anthology
finish Always Her Wingman
write Alien Generations: Lindsay (the first in a trilogy about an alien family on Earth)

She hugged him. “Thank you.”

He teased her about her geeky collection of food-related shirts, but some of her favorites had come from him.

She reclaimed the back seat and watched the scenery while they left town. The guys quietly talked, allowing her to imagine what she’d find when they reached the ranch in a few hours. Her stomach fluttered when she thought about seeing Samuel again.

Blond with chiseled good looks, he was a major hottie. At least six-three, his powerful frame had filled out his stylish suit in amazing ways. He was GQ model perfection in a cowboy hat. All the Malone brothers were handsome men, but Samuel had captured her attention with his piercing, intelligent steel-blue eyes. I’m no longer an #audiobook virgin!

Hello! Yes, I know audiobooks have been around for years, but 2014 was the first time I’ve listened to one, and had one of my stories released in audio.

In the later half of 2014, I’ve listened to more audiobooks than having read print or digital. Why? Because I have more opportunities to listen to them than to sit down and read. I’m a multitasker, so I listen to audiobooks when I’m doing the dishes, cleaning the house, walking, and sometimes when I’m driving.

I admit that it takes a bit to get used to listening to someone read to you. Like an author’s voice, there are some narrator’s voices that I’ve just had to pass on. But, hey, we all have our own tastes. And that’s okay.

Where do I find my audiobooks? There are three places I’ve downloaded audiobooks from: 

Audible
Amazon – when you download a Kindle book, you can get the audiobook version (if available) for a reduced price.
OverDrive – I’m very lucky that my local library is a part of OverDrive. Therefore, I can “borrow” ebooks and audiobooks for FREE! The only problem is, I’m limited to what the library decides to put in their catalog. But, like on their physical shelves, they have a wide variety.
