It’s our October publication day!

It’s our October publication day, and we’ve got an amazing collection of new books hitting the shelves this month – with wonderful new novelty, picture books, illustrated fiction and middle grade in shops, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what you can find from Nosy Crow in October.

The latest in Axel Scheffler’s hit series, Pip and Posy: The Christmas Tree, is out now, with another wonderful adventure from your favourite rabbit and mouse. It’s Christmas time, and Pip and Posy are busy decorating the tree with candy sticks, and biscuits, and a beautiful sugar star. But the strange thing is that every time Posy goes out of the room, when she returns, there’s one less decoration on the tree. Eventually, there are NO decorations left AT ALL… oh, dear! Take a look inside Pip and Posy: The Christmas Tree

Come and work for Nosy Crow: we’re hiring an Editorial Assistant, a Marketing Assistant, and a Publicity Executive

We currently have three roles to fill at Nosy Crow – we’re looking an Editorial Assistant, a Marketing Assistant, and a Publicity Executive to join our team.


Publicity Executive


This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised and creative individual to join our team as a Publicity Executive on a full-time basis. This role is ideal for someone eager to progress their Publicity/PR career in a fast-growing, young company with many high profile and award-winning authors, illustrators and brands.


Purpose of the Job


The role of the Publicity Executive is to devise and implement the PR strategy for Nosy Crow’s authors and illustrators, our high-profile list and multi award-winning brands.


The Publicity Executive reports to the Head of Sales and Marketing, working closely with our existing Publicity Executive, and will be joining a dedicated, bright and vibrant Sales and Marketing Department.


We are a close team and we value the experience and creative input that we can each provide to help shape our products to be the best they can be.


Key Responsibilities:



Devising and delivering imaginative, tailored, effective, wide-reaching and well-executed publicity campaigns, across all Nosy Crow brands, authors, illustrators and titles
Organising a Nosy Crow presence at festivals, events, and conferences plus launches and book tours and attending these where required
Developing and maintaining contacts in all aspects of the media, and within the librarian, bookseller and influencer community
Working closely with the Editorial and Sales and Marketing teams to ensure successful execution and maximise sales from first acquisition to sell-through 
Providing general administration support where required

 


Key skills, characteristics and capabilities:



Experience in delivering creative and strategic campaigns for both established and debut names and brands
Proven success in organising festivals, events, conferences, launches and book tours
Excellent contacts in all aspects of the media, particularly within children’s books and within the librarian, bookseller and influencer community
Excellent verbal and written communication skills plus the ability to write persuasive copy
A creative flair plus strong organisation and time management skills
A keen interest in children’s books and the ability to constantly prioritise in a busy and sometimes pressurised (but fun!) environment
Basic design skills using InDesign and Photoshop desirable but not essential

Editorial Assistant


This is a brilliant opportunity for a bright, personable Editorial Assistant to support our Picture Book and Novelty teams on a full-time basis. It is a rare chance to work at the grassroots of children’s publishing, liaising closely with a small, busy team of editors in an exciting, creative environment. Ideally you will have some experience of children’s full-colour illustrated editorial work.


Purpose of the Job


The role of Editorial Assistant includes a range of administrative and editorial tasks, from inputting data and proofreading layouts, to helping authors, illustrators and agents both on the phone and when visiting our office.


The Editorial Assistant reports jointly to the Editorial Director and the Head of Picture Books.


Key responsibilities:



Inputting and updating title information to Biblio, our publishing management system
Liaising with our American partners and our authors to produce americanised editions of our titles
Maintaining and updating the publishing schedule
Posting out advance copies to authors, illustrators and their agents
Proofreading and checking layouts and advances
Writing sales copy
Providing general administrative support and assisting in the smooth running of the department

 


Key skills, characteristics and capabilities:



The ability to spell and punctuate accurately, plus a strong visual sense
A good grasp of basic arithmetic
To be a strong team player with good communication skills
The ability to take the initiative and prioritise your workload
A proven interest in illustrated children’s books
Basic design skills using InDesign is desirable but not essential

Marketing Assistant

Purpose of the Job


The role of Marketing Assistant is to assist in the promotion of Nosy Crow’s award-winning titles, from supporting our marketing campaigns to helping with the creation of a broad range of marketing materials and providing administrative support to the department.


The Marketing Assistant reports to the Senior Marketing Executive and will be joining the Sales and Marketing Department.


Key responsibilities:



Assisting with the creation of Nosy Crow’s rights guides, catalogues and printed marketing material
Supporting our marketing campaigns, from planning to implementation, across a broad range of titles
Maintaining and updating a marketing schedule
Providing general administrative support and assisting in the smooth running of the office

 


Key skills, characteristics and capabilities:



Excellent verbal and written communication skills plus the ability to write persuasive copy
A great eye for detail and the ability to proofread
Strong organisation and time management skills
A keen interest in children’s books
Basic design skills using InDesign and Photoshop desirable but not essential

There’s a day left to apply for a paid work experience placement in our Publicity and Marketing Department

We have a temporary work experience placement available in our Publicity and Marketing department, and if you are interested, there’s not long left to apply – the closing date for applications is tomorrow, Friday 28th September.


Reporting to the Publicity Executive, you will be supporting our PR campaigns and helping with the smooth running of the department. Tasks will include review mailings, event planning, running competitions, and office admin. In return you’ll get hands-on experience in children’s publishing.


The ideal candidate will have a passion for children’s books along with a keen eye for detail and a can-do attitude.


We are looking for someone who is available for the next two months to start ASAP for 3-5 days per week. This is a paid role based in our office near London Bridge.

Take a sneak peek at October’s new books!

We’ve got an amazing collection of new books coming out next month – with wonderful new novelty, picture books, illustrated fiction and middle grade in shops, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what you can find from Nosy Crow in October.

The latest in Axel Scheffler’s hit series, Pip and Posy: The Christmas Tree, publishes next month, with another wonderful adventure from your favourite rabbit and mouse. It’s Christmas time, and Pip and Posy are busy decorating the tree with candy sticks, and biscuits, and a beautiful sugar star. “A rip-roaring time-slip novel”: Booktrust review A Chase in Time

This Summer we published A Chase in Time: the first book in a brilliant new time-slip adventure series for 7+ readers, written by Sally Nicholls, winner of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and with artwork by Brett Helquist, illustrator of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.


And reading charity Booktrust have recently named A Chase in Time as one of their ‘Books we Love’ for September!


In their review of the book, Booktrust write: “This rip-roaring time-slip novel has a fast-paced plot and entertaining characters. With black-and-white line drawings illustrating each chapter, this first tale in the series is ideal for confident young readers with an interest in history.”
