Where's Elizabeth
Hey guys,
As we near *RELEASE DAY* (one month and three days away!?!) I have some exciting travel news to share. Over the course of the fall, I'll be popping up in California (San Diego, LA, and possibly San Fran), Chicago (at Anderson's 8th Annual Young Adult Conference), the Boston area (a/k/a my old stomping grounds!), and of course at my book launch party right here in Portland, Maine at Longfellow Books on September 2.
More dates and specifics to come, but for now, suffice it to say that I...

Holy catoozles!*
Big news: The Fury website, designed by the amazing Rob Arnow, WENT LIVE THIS MORNING!! It's at TheFurySeries.com, and it's sooooo beautiful. I'm thrilled.
Let me know what you think!
*Did anyone else grow up hearing this phrase, "holy catoozles"? It was my grandma's version of "holy cow" -- but I've only recently realized that it's not common parlance.

Summer lovin'
Well, we're in full summer mode here in Maine, a fleeting time that comes as a brilliant surprise each year. To honor the next month and a half of heat, I've made a list of the Top Five Things I Love About Summer in Portland:
1) Lobster rolls, fresh salads, frozen custard, cheeseburgers on the grill, and farmer's market berries. Okay, so that's five things already. I guess I mean summer food in general.
2) Swims. At Mackworth Island, at Willard Beach, in the Westbrook swimming hole, at Flat Ro...

Update planet
Wow, has it really been almost a month since I last wrote?? Time flies when you're having fun / on vacation / polishing up a draft of the second book / attempting to live your life as a non-fool.
Yesterday morning, on assignment from my day job, I participated in a firefighter safety training drill. It was super-fun and exhilarating! I donned full firefighter gear -- the mask and air tank, helmet, suit, boots, all of it -- and navigated a maze, squirming through a mess of wires, squeezing thro...

Fury Playlist
Five lucky winners left the S&S blogger preview with a special "Fury mix" made by yours truly. It contains 11 songs that I feel correspond with certain moods and scenes in the book (and includes two songs by Maine artists to give it even more local flavor!).
Here's the songlist, in case you're interested:
1) "Cabaret" -- Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
2) "Slow Vein" -- Cult Maze
3) "Disturbia" -- Rihanna
4) "Walking With a Ghost" -- Tegan and Sara
5) "Crane Your Neck" -- Lady Lamb the Beekeeper

Tuesday Afternoon Author-back
So, it's Tuesday afternoon, and I'm no football player, but I'm going to play Monday Morning Quarterback all the same. Yesterday was the Simon & Schuster blogger preview. I had a blast and it seemed like a great success overall, but I still want to learn from the experience and improve on it for my next public appearance.
To that end, I'm going to break it down into What I Think Went Well and What I Think Could Have Gone Better, resulting in Tips for a Good Presentation, or rather, Tips for ...

I've never done this before...But it was fun! Thanks, Parajunkee!
Q: It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them... 1) I've worn the same necklace every day for more than five years (I sleep and shower in it). It's a sterling silver maple seed. 2) I love grocery shopping and I can't stand doing laundry.3) I read magazines from the back to the front. 4) I like dipping pretzels in sour cream.5) I have to sit near...

Countdowns
A few things I'm counting down to:
99 days until the FURY release!96 days until my bestie gets married, omg! 16 days until The Carpenter and I leave for an eight-day vacation! We're heading to New Orleans and Florida (central-ish -- a town called DeLand). More on this soon. 5 days until Simon & Schuster's BEA Blogger Preview event! I've been working on my Power Point and dreaming up some fun surprise perks... And, ONE day until I have a complete (if rough, very rough) first draft of ENVY

I need movie recommendations!
Guys, I'm desperate. I've been sick for three+ days. I've watched:
-- Life as We Know It (okay)
-- The Nanny Diaries (whatever)
-- Morning Glory (whatever)
-- Never Let Me Go (sorry, but I really can't stand Kiera Knightly)
-- The Crow (pretty good!)
-- Some movie with Gary Oldman that The Carpenter rented (no)
-- Vicky Cristina Barcelona (I'd seen it already -- love it!)
-- Some movie with a woman from Deadwood and another woman from Gray's Anatomy (no)
When I'm sick, I like to watch the crap that Th...
