Reviews and giveaways
I have such an embarrassment of riches: a five-star review of My Particular Friend at Jane Green Smith’s blog Reading, Writing, Working, Playing. And at the same time, my guest post at Barbara Tiller Cole’s Darcyholic Diversions where I wonder what Jane Austen would be writing were she still writing today. And both sites have [...]

Worst … job … ever!
Smithsonian Magazine has an article on that ever popular genre, the disgusting, dirty job. Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs and Tony Robinson of Worst Jobs in History and Dan Snow of Filthy Cities (see above) have all tackled the job of “tosher” or sewer rat, mud lark or gong farmer but Victorian author Peter Mayhew [...]

An excerpt from Jane Austen’s completed Sanditon
It is with much trepidation that I offer you an except from Jane Austen’s completed Sanditon. It is the conceit of my next novel, Jane, Actually, that Miss Austen completed Sanditon after her death and is now embarked on her book tour promoting it. Unfortunately for me, it’s customary for an author to read excerpts [...]

What the heck is a chamber-horse?
I found myself re-reading the small scrap of Sanditon for the umpteenth time because I am again tackling the job of writing an excerpt of it that my Jane Austen will read from in the course of her book tour. I’m not crazy enough to think that I can complete Sanditon; others have tried to [...]

The Kindle Select period for MPF is now over (it’s no longer free for Amazon Prime Customers, but can still be lent), which means it’s finally available for the Barnes&Noble Nook, even if you don’t have a Nook. How’s that possible? If you have an Apple iOS device, you can get Nook for iPad and [...]

My Particular Friend reviewed at IndieJane
“Miss House is a cross between a private investigator and a matchmaker, her primary area of concern is making sure that matches take place as they should – without unnecessary impediment. Sometimes this means unraveling multiple engagements at once (that was a hilarious tale, to be sure!), and sometimes it means stepping out of the [...]

Ask Jane Austen
My book in progress, Jane, Actually or Jane Austen’s Book Tour, follows Jane as she promotes her latest book, the finally completed Sanditon. She’s traveling the U.S. and the U.K., doing book signings and reading excerpts and taking questions from the audience. Rather than me imagining what questions to ask a disembodied Regency author, I [...]

Finding Austen in unlikely places
Sometimes I find Jane Austen in unlikely places. Most recently I found her in Onaga, Kansas, on a recent trip. My husband’s father died last March, but the inurnment service was delayed until this June at the National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas, so that Jim’s uncle could attend. We drove from Denver to Great Bend, [...]
