Paul Finebaum Breaks His Silence on Horrible Arch Manning Prediction
Over the years, ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum has become well-known for his patented SEC homerism. This weekend, he took it to a new level with some bold words about Arch Manning before he began his first season as a starter – and he immediately regretted it.
Manning entered Saturday's showdown with the Ohio State Buckeyes as one of the most hyped players in recent memory. Before even playing his first game as a full-time starting quarterback, Manning was already the Heisman Trophy favorite and projected to be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
After a lackluster performance to open the season, many analysts and pundits were forced to address their rosy predictions about the young quarterback, Finebaum included.
Arch Manning HypeHeading into Saturday's game, the Manning hype was nearly out of control as the college football world eagerly awaited what they thought would be his coming-out party.
Nephew of Peyton and Eli ManningTop-rated recruit in the 2023 high school recruiting classPreseason Heisman Trophy favoriteProjected as No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL DraftFinebaum was certainly among those buying into the hype.
Paul Finebaum Offers Wild PredictionDuring Saturday’s edition of SEC Nation on SEC Network, Finebaum had a pretty wild prediction for what he expected to see from Manning.
“It is the biggest opening game I think we have ever had, and there are a lot of reasons for it,” Finebaum said on the show. “But the biggest reason is Arch Manning. I’ve said it; I’ll say it again. He is the best player we have seen from every aspect since Tim Tebow.”
It was quite a bold prediction, and it did not take long for it to look laughable.
Arch Manning Falls Flat Against Ohio StateTo put it bluntly, Manning did not live up to the hype during Saturday's game against the Buckeyes. The young quarterback missed badly on simple throws, threw a costly interception, and looked confused for most of the game.
Manning completed just 17 of 30 passes, and the vast majority of those completions came behind or within just two yards of the line of scrimmage as his Longhorns struggled to move the ball and didn't score a single point until late in the fourth quarter.
Needless to say, it was not the coming out party that everyone expected. Manning did not look like a Heisman Trophy contender or the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft; he looked like a young quarterback making his real start on the road against a great defense.
'I Don't Mind Being Wrong'A day after boldly proclaiming Manning as "the best player we have seen from every aspect since Tim Tebow," Finebaum had to eat his words a bit after a lackluster showing from Manning on Saturday.
During an appearance on The Matt Barrie Show on Sunday morning, Finebaum addressed all the hype surrounding Manning heading into Saturday's game.
“We’ve only been hearing about Arch Manning since about the seventh grade. It was one of the biggest commitments of all time. It was the biggest debut of all time, and it did transcend sports. That’s what I jumped on with some of my now ridiculous takes. But that’s fine,” Finebaum said, .
Finebaum admits that his prediction did not age well, but he was not bothered, though he does admit to seeing some of the postgame reactions to his comments.
“We’re in the business to express our opinions and what I don’t like, not to be on a soapbox, are those who never give an opinion. I don’t mind being wrong. I think it’s pretty funny — I mean, I get a kick,” Finebaum said. “It got so bad yesterday, I was flying back, and you try to keep up. Nobody in our business admits it, but you try to keep up with what people are saying about you. I couldn’t keep up with it. I finally said, ‘I’ve had enough.'”
Manning will have a whole season to grow and bounce back from the disappointing showing. Perhaps, in time, he'll ultimately be able to prove Finebaum right, after all.
Bruce Willis' Wife Defends 'Difficult' Decision as His Condition Worsens
Legendary actor Bruce Willis has been battling frontotemporal dementia (FTD) since his diagnosis back in February of 2023. As his condition worsens, his wife made a difficult decision that she is now defending.
Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis, has been caring for her husband since his diagnosis. She recently spoke to Diane Sawyer of ABC News, where she opened up a bit about his condition and gave an update on his health and well-being.
During the emotional interview, Heming Willis shared what she called the “hardest decision” she has had to make. Now, several days later, she is defending the move on social media.
What is Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)?Shortly after Willis shared his diagnosis, Susan Dickson, CEO of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, conducted a joint interview along with Heming Willis where she gave some insight into the disease.
Dickson explained that the disease is often misdiagnosed, with the symptoms mirroring depression, bipolar disorder, or even Parkinson’s and ALS. Those impacted by the disease can lose language and executive functions, and have trouble moving and speaking.
A Difficult DecisionDuring the recent interview with Sawyer, the actor's wife said that while he is in "great health" physically, his condition has worsened as his brain is "failing him."
"Bruce is still very mobile," she said. "Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It's just his brain that is failing him."
As a result, she made the difficult decision to move him away from the family home and into another home with a full-time care team.
"Everyone will have an opinion, but you have to remember that most don’t have the experience to back it up."
Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming Willis
Heming Willis called it the "hardest decision" she's made, but said it's what her husband would want for their daughters, 13-year-old Mabel and 11-year-old Evelyn.
“Bruce would want that for our daughters,” she told Sawyer. “He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.”
Willis' Wife Defends the MoveThe decision to move her husband out of the family house was a significant update and led to a lot of conversation and criticism on social media, but Heming Willis defended the move.
In a post on social media this week, Heming Willis read an excerpt from her upcoming book, Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, where she defended herself from any criticism or opinions from others.
"Everyone will have an opinion, but you have to remember that most don’t have the experience to back it up," she read from her book, responding to criticism about her decision. "If that’s the case, they shouldn’t offer their two cents about it, and you shouldn’t pay them any mind."
"Nothing changes an opinion quite as powerfully as when you have an experience," she said, recounting advice from her therapist. "Even if someone is familiar with dementia … they aren’t in your home. They don’t know how your person is behaving or your family dynamics.
"The truth is … the opinions are so loud, and they’re so noisy. But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say, and they definitely don’t get a vote," she concluded.
Clearly, Heming Willis thinks that the move was best for everyone involved and isn't willing to listen to any criticism about it.
South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers Praised for Classy Postgame Gesture to Frank Beamer
With one until the start of the 2025 NFL season, it meant that college football took center stage on Sunday, Aug. 31, with two high-profile matchups. The first matchup featured the Virginia Tech Hokies taking on the No. 13 South Carolina Gamecocks in a game played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. While both teams struggled offensively for much of the first three quarters, South Carolina took a 10-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
After Virginia Tech made a field goal to cut it to a one-possession game with nine minutes remaining, less than a minute and a half later, LaNorris Sellers struck. The Gamecocks quarterback hit wide receiver Nyck Harbor in stride for a perfect 64-yard touchdown to stretch the lead back to double-digits.
As impressive as Sellers’ performance was on Sunday, it was what he did after the game that drew high praise.

Among those in attendance for the two teams’ opening game of the 2025 college football season was Virginia Tech’s longtime coach Frank Beamer. The man who created “Beamerball,” which highlighted his teams' ability to make big plays, spent his entire head coaching career at Virginia Tech, leading the team for 29 years from 1987 to 2015.
The Beamer-led Hokies were ranked in the top-25 at one point during every season from 1993 through 2014, and he led the school to a postseason bowl game for 23 consecutive years.
The respect for Beamer is widely known across the college football landscape, and South Carolina’s 20-year-old quarterback made sure to give his own unique tip of the cap to the legendary Hokies coach on Sunday. After the game, Sellers found Beamer, shook his hand, and, in a classy moment, gave him the game ball.

It was an impressive show of respect from Sellers, who earned the game ball after throwing for 209 yards on 12-of-19 attempts and one touchdown. The sophomore also tacked on 25 rushing yards and an additional score on the ground.
South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers Praised for Giving Frank Beamer Game BallWhen a player earns a game ball, it’s a way for the head coach to show praise for an impressive performance. It just so happens that South Carolina’s head coach is none other than Frank Beamer’s son, Shane Beamer. The 48-year-old has been the Gamecocks’ head coach since 2021, leading the team to a winning record in three of his first four seasons.
While Sellers’ play on Sunday was nothing short of impressive, the praise he earned for passing along the game ball to Beamer poured in on social media and quickly made headlines for all the right reasons.
"What a legend. Great day for him,” wrote one viewer.
"Not all hero’s wear capes,” said another fan.
"Respect like that hits different, shows the love goes beyond the game,” replied another viewer, giving a tip of the cap to Sellers.
"This is an awesome moment,” added one impressed fan.
Even viewers who aren’t fans of South Carolina football had to show their respect to Sellers for the gesture.
"I don’t like SC but I love this,” said one person.
South Carolina is fresh off its best season since 2017, finishing 9-4 in 2024 behind the strong play of Sellers. The quarterback’s breakout campaign featured 2,534 passing yards, 674 rushing yards, 25 combined touchdowns (18 passing, seven rushing) and just seven interceptions. Sellers also completed 65.6 percent of his passes last year, helping to set up a highly anticipated 2025 season for the quarterback.

Why We Love This DealTecovas is a Texas-based apparel brand that specializes in high-quality Western wear that blends the past with the future, and has played a big role in the recent resurgence of Western wear in general. The label is best known for its selection of leather boots, both casual and work-ready, like this pair that’s 35% off right now.
Tecovas’ sitewide Labor Day sale just kicked off, which means you can get the $235 Tecovas Rugged Roper Boots for $151. This is the last call for the Rugged Ropers in the Cashew color made with roughout leather.
Tecovas Rugged Roper Boots, $151 (was $235) at Tecovas
Ropers are a style of cowboy boots with a shorter shaft and a comfort-forward design, focusing less on riding capabilities and more on versatility. This particular pair is made of roughout cowhide, with a Total Energy Command (TEC) insole and a removable cushioned footbed inside. The Goodyear welt construction and natural water-resistance make these boots certifiably durable, and the self-cleaning MuckOFF Tread on the outsole is oil and slip-resistant for even more protection. As for the measurements, the boots have a 10-inch shaft with a 1 ¼-inch straight heel.
The care instructions aren’t super complicated, but they’re essential to follow if you want your boots to last a long time. First, always store them in a cool (and dry) space and let them fully dry before wearing them again. After each wear, brush the dirt off with a horsehair brush and use a damp cloth (or suede eraser) to remove stains. Never condition or polish them.

Boots can sometimes require a break-in period for those who aren’t as familiar with them. Luckily, the reviews on Tecovas’ site confirm that the Rugged Ropers are pretty much ready to go right out of the box and, according to one reviewer, are “very well built and very comfortable.”
Getting your hands on a pair of high-quality leather boots is usually expensive, which is why the Tecovas Rugged Roper Boots are a great deal for $151. Keep in mind that it’s last call for this model of the Rugged Ropers, so you should grab a pair before they’re possibly gone forever.

Good quality wood kitchen products are notoriously expensive, and tremendously popular. If you look at any of the home goods retailers, you will find a sea of wooden trays, boards, bowls, chargers and other goods, and generally they carry a hefty price tag. That’s why we love when Aldi drops dupes that are well-made, but with a much more affordable price tag.
This Aldi Find is a Crofton Acacia Wood Lazy Susan that can be used in various ways this fall season. It can display cooking items, like oil and vinegar, salt and pepper wells and spices. Or it can showcase kitchen decor and gear like a mortar and pestle, high-end spice grinders and clear canisters with dried legumes and coffee beans.
Likely the most popular use for a lazy susan is storing pantry goods for ease of turning and grabbing what you need without having to pull everything out of the cabinet first. We like to use ours for smaller bottled goods like vinegars, specialty oils and extracts as well as spice mixes we don’t use every day.
Some fans are using it as a charcuterie board when serving a crowd. Whether it's adorning fresh veggies and fruit, breads and crackers, cheeses and cured meats or dips and chips, this board can really do everything.

Aldi’s version is nearly identical to a Crate and Barrel style that’s over 5-times the cost, which makes the find even more enticing. The Crate and Barrel version is also made of acacia wood, and is slightly larger at 20-inches, while the Crofton version is 18-inches.
Aldi Is Selling an Acacia Wood Lazy Susan For Only $15
Their wood grain is quite similar, and when taken care of as suggested, should maintain just the same. Aldi suggests using a damp cloth to wipe clean and not to submerge in water. It should be patted dry with a kitchen towel and stored in a well-ventilated space, out of direct sunlight to avoid deformation and discoloration.
The Crate and Barrel lazy susan retails for $79.95, while the Aldi Find is just $14.99. Both feature a bottom that swivels for ease and convenience of retrieving the ingredient or item you need.

When Aldi launched this lazy susan last year, fans were thrilled with it. "I use mine for a charcuterie board when I entertain for 20 or more. Love it", said one commenter on Facebook. "This countertop lazy Susan is the best! I love Acacia wood. It turns silently as well and [is] perfectly balanced", exclaimed another.
If you’re interested in a modern and handy lazy susan, we recommend showing up at your nearest Aldi store on Wednesday, September 3, as that’s when this product will drop. As with all Aldi Finds, it won’t last long.

Scientists 'Stunned' by Discoveries in Great Salt Lake
The Great Salt Lake is an extraordinary natural phenomenon, the "largest salt-water lake in the western hemisphere."
"A remnant of the massive ancient Lake Bonneville, the lake is now landlocked and its waters are salty," according to Utah.com. "It is the largest lake between the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean, and is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere." It is also the subject of many legends, the site notes.
However, the Great Salt Lake has been "shrinking," according to an Aug. 31 article by Science Daily. That's led to some discoveries that "stunned" scientists.
"Great Salt Lake, the largest saline lake in the Western Hemisphere, is in crisis," the University of Utah says on its website, where it sponsors a Great Salt Lake Project. "Decades of unsustainable water consumption, accelerated by drought and climate change, have dramatically reduced water levels. With over 50% of the lakebed now exposed, Great Salt Lake is on a trajectory toward irreversible ecological collapse."
The Scientists Found 'Strange Surface Disturbances' in the Great Salt LakeAccording to Science Daily, "as the Great Salt Lake shrinks, scientists are uncovering mysterious groundwater-fed oases hidden beneath its drying lakebed."
The findings were made by researchers at the University of Utah.
"Reed-covered mounds and strange surface disturbances hint at a vast underground plumbing system that pushes fresh water up under pressure," wrote Science Daily.
The scientists are "mapping the hidden freshwater reserves" to see whether they "could help restore fragile lakebed crusts, reduce dust pollution, and reveal long-buried secrets of the region’s hydrology," Science Daily reported.
Bill Johnson, a professor in the Department of Geology & Geophysics, told Science Daily that suspects "the circular mounds: are the result of a "subsurface plumbing system." Men's Journal has reached out to Johnson by email for additional details.
"Water in the lake has spent a significant time underground on its way to the lake. But where that happened, we don't know," Johnson told the site. "Did that happen somewhere in the uplands where the water spent time in the ground and emerged in the stream before going to the lake? Or was it transmitted directly to the lake?"
The Great Salt Lake's Water Levels Are 'Far From Constant'The new research is dependent on water levels, but they are not consistent.
"Water levels in the lake are far from constant. During its recorded low in 1963, some of the lake's 10 major islands became peninsulas," Utah.com reports.
"In 1983, when the lake reached its historic high, it flooded houses, farmland and the nearby freeway. Huge pumps were constructed to deposit excess water into Utah's west desert. The pumps were shut down in 1989."
The site adds that the Great Salt Lake "is actually the remainder of prehistoric Lake Bonneville, which covered some 20,000 square miles of land in what is now Utah, Nevada and Idaho some 10,000 to 30,000 years ago."
"The lake is about 75 miles long and 35 miles wide, with a maximum depth of 33 feet. After a series of wet years, the lake's surface area may be much larger but it will be only a little bit deeper," Utah.com reported.
Airline Breaks Silence After Passengers Were Forced to Urinate in Bottles
Virgin Australia came under fire after passengers on a flight from Bali to Brisbane, Australia, were forced to urinate in bottles and the lavatory sinks.
"We will be crediting guests for the Denpasar to Brisbane flight and we are proactively reaching out to them to provide this update," a Virgin spokesman following the Thursday night disaster, offering their "sincere apology to customers."
According to reports, one of the three lavatories was inoperable at the time of takeoff. However, the decision was made to continue with the scheduled departure due to "limited engineering support" at the departure airport.
However, according to an unnamed passenger, by midway through the six-hour flight, "every toilet failed."
"For the remaining three hours, the cabin crew informed us we would need to relieve ourselves in bottles or 'on top of whatever was already in the toilet,'" the disgruntled traveler told The Australian. "One elderly woman was unable to hold on and suffered the humiliation of wetting herself in public."
The business class passenger was reportedly instructed to "use the sink to urinate" after refusing to use a bottle.
"This is a huge hygiene issue as people wash their hands in the sink," he said. "For passengers to be forced to sit in a confined space for hours surrounded by overflowing toilets and human waste is a public health risk, a safety concern, and an absolute disgrace."
The aircraft in question, one of Virgin Australia’s newest Boeing 737 Max 8s, was undergoing repairs Friday and scheduled to take off from Brisbane to Mackay on Saturday.
Beet Juice Can Provide a Major Health Benefit, New Study Finds
Drinking beet juice can have a positive health benefit for people dealing with high blood pressure, but a new study found that the effect was limited to older adults.
High blood pressure has been linked to a host of negative health outcomes, from heart attacks to strokes.
An Aug. 22 article by Science Daily says that "drinking nitrate-rich beetroot juice lowered blood pressure in older adults by reshaping their oral microbiome." The underlying research was published by University of Exeter researchers in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine.
The study also contained a warning about antiseptic mouthwash. Despite the limitation to older adults in this study, beet juice's positive health effects for people of all ages have been documented before, and range from exercise stamina to muscle power.
A Researcher Noted That Other Vegetables Also Contain the Key NitratesThe researchers gave one group of subjects a "placebo beetroot juice," a second group "nitrate-rich beetroot juice," and a third group, "antiseptic mouthwash," according to the study.
According to Science Daily, previous research showed that a "high nitrate diet can reduce blood pressure." But the new study is the largest of its kind, the publication noted.
“We know that a nitrate-rich diet has health benefits, and older people produce less of their own nitric oxide as they age," University of Exeter Professor Anni Vanhatalo told Science Daily.
"They also tend to have higher blood pressure, which can be linked to cardiovascular complications like heart attack and stroke. Encouraging older adults to consume more nitrate-rich vegetables could have significant long term health benefits. The good news is that if you don’t like beetroot, there are many nitrate-rich alternatives like spinach, rocket, fennel, celery and kale.”
Study Participants Were Given Shots of 'Concentrated Beetroot Juice'The researchers in the new study gave subjects "a concentrated beetroot juice 'shot' twice a day for two weeks," and found that older participants' blood pressure declined, but younger participants' did not. A "vegetable-rich" diet can be a source of nitrate, according to the study.
"Imbalances in the oral microbial community, and poor dental health, have been associated with impaired cardiovascular health," they noted.
The study also noted that "the use of chlorhexidine containing mouthwash, which suppresses oral bacteria, elevated blood pressure in healthy adults...and in older people with treated hypertension."
The researchers found that "dietary nitrate represents an acceptable and cost-effective dietary intervention to enhance cardiovascular health in older age via modification of the oral microbiome."
Another study, published in the Frontiers in Nutrition journal in 2022, also found that "Beetroot juice (BRJ) is rich in nitrate (NO3) and has the potential to reduce blood pressure (BP)."
