Ben Stiller Calls Himself out Over 'Severance’s’ Long Wait Between Seasons

If Ben Stiller is pointing the finger over the beloved Apple TV+ series Severance, you know he’s serious about it. Stiller, who’s the executive producer and also directs the hit show, did just that in a recent interview—only the finger-pointing was directed at himself in a self-critical moment.

Following a three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2 of Severance, fans remain optimistic that the timeline will be far shorter as they await updates on Season 3. Stiller admitted during an interview with Vanity Fair that he looks at his "own process" while evaluating why it takes so long to create a new season of Severance.

Ben Stiller Points to 'The Bear' When Discussing Creating New Episodes of 'Severance' Ben Stiller, Quinta Brunson, and Adam Scott attend the All-Guild special screening of Apple TV+ Show 'Severance' Season 2 at DGA Theater Complex.

Phillip Faraone/FilmMagic

Comparing the processes and timelines for creating new episodes of any two shows is truly an unfair practice without considering everything that goes into each. Regardless, Stiller did admit to Vanity Fair that he wishes he could create episodes as fast as Chris Storer of The Bear.

That comparison partially led to Stiller being self-critical over Severance.

"The frustration for us was that it was taking so long, honestly," Stiller said of making new episodes/seasons. "Sometimes I look at the outside factors, which are beyond our control, but then also—I mean I won’t lie, I look at my own process too and go, 'What is it?' Chris Storer will shoot an episode in an hour and a half or something on The Bear. I’m like, “Godd---, why can’t I do that?”

Although Stiller's self-reflection on the length of time it takes him to make an episode of Severance isn't surprising, it's impossible to blame someone for striving to make something live up to their vision of it. However, it's impressive that his approach to Severance is so wildly popular because it means he did his job and did it exceptionally well.

Ben Stiller Created a Mega Hit With 'Severance and the Arrow Is Still Pointing Up

Not only has the show itself earned rave reviews from critics and fans, but the cast, which was largely put together by Stiller, earned its fair share of award nominations, as Severance is the most-nominated series of the 2025 Emmy Awards.

The show picked up 27 total nominations, including Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Lead Actor for Adam Scott, Outstanding Lead Actress for Britt Lower, Outstanding Directing for Ben Stiller and Jessica Lee Gagné and Outstanding Writing for Dan Erickson, among others.

In terms of the ratings, the critics have specifically offered endless praise for Stiller's masterpiece. Season 1 earned a 97 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes while Season 2 checked in at 94 percent.

The high marks came from fans as well, with Severance earning an average score of 79 percent on the fan-focused Popcornmeter, based on over 3,500 verified ratings.

Legionnaires' Disease Outbreak Kills 3 in New York. Health Commissioner Says 5 ZIP Codes Under Investigation

A Legionnaires' disease outbreak in New York City has killed three people and sickened more than 70 people.

Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse announced the details in a press conference on Aug. 7, 2025, noting health officials have taken action to find and get rid of the Legionella bacteria causing the outbreak.

Morse said workers have detected and remediated 11 cooling towers where the bacteria was detected, but noted five ZIP codes in central Harlem are still under investigation by her department.

The press conference was posted by CBS News.

Everywhere in 10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, and 10039 is under investigation, according to NYC Health.

"It's a false sense of security if I were to tell you any one or two or three specific buildings to focus on," Morse said. "The entire ZIP codes are under investigation actively."

Morse during the conference said 73 people had been reported infected, and New York's ABC 7 reported later in the day that that number had risen to 81. Morse noted 23 people have been hospitalized because of the outbreak.

Health officials first became aware of a cluster of Legionella cases on July 25, Morse said.

Cooling towers help regulate building and equipment temperatures by allowing heat to escape into the air, usually through water evaporation or simply cooling water down.

That means, despite the cooling towers contamination, indoor plumbing is not impacted by the outbreak and tap water is safe to consume.

"So New Yorkers in Central Harlem, where we're standing right now, can still safely drink tap water, bathe, shower, cook, use your air conditioner," Morse said. "Those things are safe."

Legionnaires' disease cannot be spread person-to-person, Morse emphasized.

Symptoms of the disease usually begin around two days after contact with legionella bacteria, according to Mayo Clinic.

The first round of symptoms usually include headaches, muscle aches and a fever. Later symptoms include a productive cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea and confusion.

Older people and smokers should seek immediate treatment if they come in contact with the bacteria.

People with weakened immune systems or chronic lung issues are also consider at higher risk.

Without treatment the disease can also lead to lung failure, septic shock and sudden kidney failure.

U.S. Issues Travel Warning as Disease Spreads

After a recent breakout of a mosquito-borne virus in China, the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a travel warning to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Like the United States Department of State does with its extensive list of travel advisories, the CDC regularly issues travel advisories, as well, warning travelers about disease outbreaks and other health-related issues around the world.

This week, the CDC issued a warning to travelers about an outbreak of chikungunya in a region of China.

What is Chikungunya?

First identified in people sickened during an outbreak in Tanzania in 1952, chikungunya is transmitted by infected mosquitoes. While it mostly causes mild symptoms and the majority of those who contract the virus recover quickly, it does have potentially severe symptoms.

While the disease is rarely fatal, some people can experience severe and debilitating joint pain that could even last several years.

"Most people infected with chikungunya virus develop some symptoms. Symptoms of chikungunya usually begin 37 days after a bite by an infected mosquito. The most common symptoms are fever and joint pain. Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash. Most people get better within a week; however, some can have severe joint pain for months to years following acute illness," the CDC states.

"People at risk for more severe disease include newborns infected around the time of birth, older adults (65 years or older), and people with medical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. Death from chikungunya is rare."

Patients who become severely ill as a result of the virus often require hospitalization because of the risk of organ damage.

Where is the Outbreak?

In its travel advisory, the CDC warned that it has seen a rapid increase in the virus in Guangdong Province, located in southeastern China. More specifically, the CDC states that most cases have been reported in Foshan City.

The Guangdong Province has reported over 7,000 cases since the start of July. Over 60% of the cases of chikungunya have occurred in Foshan.

The CDC has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for China as a result of the outbreak, with an emphasis placed on Guangdong Province. The advisory warns travelers to "practice increased precautions" when traveling.

Health officials have become concerned about how the disease has spread through China.

“What makes this event notable is that chikungunya has never been established in mainland China before,” César López-Camacho of the University of Oxford said in a statement via the Associated Press. “This suggests that most of the population had no preexisting immunity, making it easier for the virus to spread quickly.”

How to Prevent the Virus

The CDC suggested a few ways for travelers to keep themselves safe from the virus if they do choose to travel to China.

"You can protect yourself by preventing mosquito bites, which includes using insect repellent; wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants; and staying in places with air conditioning or that have screens on the windows and doors," the CDC wrote in its advisory.

The best way to protect yourself, the CDC states, is vaccination.

"Vaccination is recommended for travelers who are visiting an area with a chikungunya outbreak. Two chikungunya vaccines are approved for use in the United States," the CDC's advisory states.

The CDC warns to "seek medical care immediately" if you develop fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash during or after travel.

AMC Theatres Changes Its Mind on Controversial Move

Earlier in the summer, AMC Theatres began running some pre-movie commercials in an attempt to add a little bit of revenue. However, it does not sound like that move went over too well, and it is already backtracking a little bit.

Back in June, AMC Theatres annouced that it would be running a “platinum spot” with pre-movie commercials that would play alongside traditional film trailers as part of a partnership with National CineMedia (NCM).

However, after some pushback from major movie studios, it sounds like AMC has decided to pull back on the ads just a little bit.

Here's a timeline of how it has all played out.

AMC Announced New Commercials

Back in June, AMC announced that it would begin showing pre-show advertisements before its films on July 1, explaining in a statement that many competing cinemas had been doing this for years with no impact on the customers.

“While AMC was initially reluctant to bring this to our theaters, our competitors have fully participated for more than five years without any direct impact to their attendance. This is a strong indication that this NCM pre-show initiative does not negatively influence moviegoing habits,” AMC said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter back in June.

AMC went on to explain that the move would help drive revenue and assist in its continued recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our participation delivers us vital revenue as we continue on our recovery path and allows us to continue offering significant value on ticket prices through initiatives like Discount Tuesday, 20 percent off matinee pricing, and the upcoming 50 percent off Wednesday ticketing program,” AMC added in its statement.

Customers Were Not Happy

Predictably, customers were not exactly happy about the move as the announcement from AMC quickly sparked outrage on social media.

"I show up to every movie 30 minutes after the 'start time' and it is always exactly as the movie is starting. That's already excessive," one customer wrote in a post on X.

"So basically the brand is still dead awesome love to see it," someone else added.

"Great! Everyone loves ads," another user posted sarcastically.

"Just let the public know when the movie starts," another person added.

"That’ll get people back to the theaters lol," someone else wrote sarcastically.

"So when they heard that people were complaining about all of the ads. They took that as let’s increase them! I won’t walk into the theater until 15 minutes after the movie starts. Get popcorn, go to the bathroom and still get there in time for the 3 amc ads," another person added.

Movie Studio Executives Were Not Happy, Either

As a result of the new pre-show commercials, which extended the time between the star time listed on the ticket and the actual beginning of the movie, customers began increasingly showing up to the theater late, skipping the pre-show commercials and the pre-movie trailers.

Needless to say, movie studios were not happy about that.

“If a tree falls it the woods and there’s no one around to hear it, what if a trailer plays in a movie theater and no one sees it? What good does it do?” Sony Motion Pictures Group Chairman & CEO Tom Rothman told Deadline.

Movie trailers have notoriously been one of the most powerful marketing tools for future movie releases and studios sometimes pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a prime trailer placement. So if customers aren't there to see those trailers, the movie studios are not happy.

“It’s incredibly self-defeating and shortsighted. Since the beginning of the movie business, the single best inducement to see movies is trailers in movie theaters. And now, nobody sees them,” Rothman said.

AMC Reportedly Backtracks, Agrees to Shorten Ads

According to Deadline, AMC Theatres has caved to the movie studio execs and is moving to shorten its pre-show advertisements.

"After some major studios clutched their pearls over AMC Theatres‘ decision to book more ads before each movie’s showtime, sources are telling us that the No. 1 circuit is working to shorten its preshow," Anthony D'Alessandro wrote for Deadline on Wednesday.

"It’s still early and specific details are unknown, but there’s hope that a shave can be done by year’s end."

Ramifications for Customers

While this feels like a win for customers and movie studios alike, there could be some unfortunate side effects for the consumer.

As AMC CEO Adam Aron explained to Deadline when the company made the decision to move forward with the pre-show commercials, AMC felt like it needed the money that the pre-show commercials brought in.

“With the box office as weak as it was back in February when we made the decision, we could no longer afford to pass up the funds that we were offered to do now what has become standard practice by our largest competitors for more than five years,” Aron told Deadline.

Aron explained that the alternative would be to raise ticket prices substantially.

“The alternative to take in the same monies Cinemark and Regal have been getting for years would have been to raise our ticket prices substantially — which would not have generated press coverage but certainly would have been unpopular with our guests,” Aron said.

While the financial impact of shortening the pre-show commercials is not clear, it seems likely that it would mean less money for AMC, which could mean that the company will kick that cost back onto the consumer through increased ticket prices.

Southwest Airlines Receives a Warning After Major Changes

Southwest Airlines is in the process of making some significant changes to its identity, ending its longstanding "bags fly free" policy as well as its open seating policy. But as the airline transitions into its new identity, one travel expert has a pretty clear warning.

Earlier this year, Southwest Airlines announced plans to begin charging for checked bags and move to an assigned seating model that allows customers to pay extra to select their seats, which could include premium seats with extra legroom.

The drastic policy changes came as the airline searched for ways to boost its profits, which have been slumping in recent years. But there's no guarantee it will work.

New Checked Bag Fees

Southwest Airlines began charging for checked bags back in May, charging customers $35 for the first checked bag and $45 for an additional checked bag. The move ended Southwest's iconic "bags fly free" policy, which it had stuck to for decades.

The early results from the changes were not great. Customers were not happy, the airline saw an immediate decline in bookings, and the move did not provide an immediate, obvious boost to profits.

Still, Southwest is committed to moving forward with the plan, and it sounds like CEO Bob Jordan is pleased with the early results.

“The revenue contribution from bag fees has exceeded our expectations so far, and we’ve experienced no negative impact to the operation,” Jordan said.

Assigned Seating Model

For decades, Southwest Airlines had a democratic, open seating policy on all of its flights, allowing passengers to simply choose any seat on the aircraft after boarding in the order in which they checked in, though the airline eventually allowed some guests to pay to board sooner than others.

Beginning in January of 2026, that's changing.

Earlier this year, Southwest Airlines officially announced that it would be ending its open-seating policy, moving to an assigned seating model. Now, guests will have to choose between four fare bundles: Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred, and Choice Extra.

Basic passengers will either receive an automatically assigned seat a day before departure or pay extra to select a seat. All other fare types will include seat selection at no extra cost.

The assigned seating model will officially go into effect beginning January 27, 2026.

More Changes on the Horizon

While Southwest has already made some rather significant changes, the airline is not done evolving yet.

Back in June, CEO Bob Jordan made it clear that Southwest was keeping its options open for future changes.

While he did not specifically indicate what the airline had planned for the future, he mentioned things like international flights and airport lounges – things Southwest's competitors currently offer, but it has never pursued.

"Whatever customers need in 2025, 2030, we won’t take any of that off the table," Jordan said back in June. "We know we send customers to other airlines because there’s some things you might want that you can’t get on us. That includes things like lounges, like true premium, like flying long-haul international. I want to send fewer and fewer customers to another airline."

We'll have to see what's next for the airline.

A Warning About the Future

While Southwest has undergone some extensive changes already and appears to have even more changes on the horizon, there's no guarantee that this transformation will actually yield the desired results.

As Prachi Patel of Simple Flying warned the airline, it's still not clear how customers will respond to the changes or how the changes will ultimately impact the company's bottom line.

"The Dallas-based carrier’s transformation is far from over. Assigned seating is still months away from appearing on flights, and cabin retrofits to accommodate new seat types are scheduled to run into early 2026. The airline has committed to completing those updates across its fleet, but much of what comes next depends on how passengers respond to the changes already underway," Patel wrote in a post for Simple Flying this week.

"Internally, the company is working to deliver the financial results its investors now expect while trying to avoid further backlash from its customer base and workforce. Fare bundles, revised loyalty benefits, and new seating products are all part of that strategy, but none of it guarantees long-term stability. The pressure to show progress, both operationally and financially, will only increase in the months ahead," Patel added.

The transformation is well underway. But as Patel warns, there's always a chance it could backfire.

Man Missing For 28 Years Found in Melting Glacier

A shepherd made an incredible discovery last week when he found the body of a man who disappeared nearly three decades ago in a remote part of Pakistan.

According to multiple reports, the shepherd found the man completely preserved in a glacier exposed by melting ice in the Supat Valley mountain region. Reports say the man, discovered on Aug. 1, was found with his clothing still intact and identification on him.

“What I saw was unbelievable,” the shepherd who found the man, Omar Khan, told the BBC. “The body was intact. The clothes were not even torn.”

The outlet reports that the man was only identified as Naseeruddin.

Reports say the Naseeruddin disappeared in June 1997 during a snowstorm. Naseeruddin, who had a wife and two children, traveled via horseback with his brother, Kathiruddin. They were reportedly forced to leave their home due to a family dispute, according to police.

During their trek in the mountains, Naseeruddin somehow fell into a glacier crack. He managed to step into a cave, prompting Kathiruddin to search for help. But when he returned, Kathiruddin said he couldn't find his brother.

All these years later, Khan made the discovery of a body that mummified due to a lack of moisture and oxygen in the glacier.

Almost exactly a year ago, a similar scene unfolded in the Andes when police recovered the body of American mountain climber William Stampfl, who had been missing for 22 years.

Stampfl was 59 when he was buried by an avalanche in June 2002 in Peru's Mount Huascaran’s peak.

Anthony Mackie on Filming 'Avengers: Doomsday' in London: 'A Lot of Sheep...It's Crazy'

Anthony Mackie gave fans a much-anticipated update on the state of filming for the 2026 movie Avengers: Doomsday. However, it was his comments about London, where filming is taking place, that may have taken the cake.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Mackie was asked where things stand with filming and if it was close to wrapping. Not surprisingly, the Captain America actor kicked things off there by letting fans know they aren't even close to the final stretch of filming.

Anthony Mackie Gives 'Avengers: Doomsday' Update, Also Can't Believe London's 'Crazy' Amount of Sheep Anthony Mackie attends the World Premiere Of Marvel Studios' 'Captain America: Brave New World' at TCL Chinese Theatre.

Frazer Harrison/WireImage

If you thought that an Avengers: Doomsday filming update would never land in the same conversation as London's apparent overload of sheep, think again.

While Mackie responded to the question of whether the Marvel film is close to wrapping with a blunt, "Absolutely no, hell no" response, he expanded a bit from there.

"We're in the midst of it...it's such a big moving set piece, and it's such a big story," Mackie said. "Shooting a Marvel movie, the best part is it's always an ever-evolving canvas. There are those staple pieces, then there are the pieces that kind of circulate throughout the course of the shoot...but it's going well."

Mackie then proceeded to dive into how things are in London, by first stating that "London is very...British, so that's a thing." The Marvel star quickly shifted to his surprise at finding out how many sheep London has, and his priceless reaction was my favorite part of the clip, personally.

"A lot of sheep. Who knew there were so many sheep in London?!" Mackie said. "There's a lot of sheep...a lot of sheep. It's crazy."

To Mackie's credit, it's fair to assume he's logging heavy hours on the set for Avengers: Doomsday, so maybe he's just taking time to enjoy the small things around London—like the sheep.

Marvel Yet to Address Several Unanswered Questions About 'Avengers: Doomsday'

There's no shortage of excitement around Marvel's latest addition to the Avengers series, but there are many unanswered questions fans hope to get answers to.

When Marvel unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday on a roughly 5-6 hour live stream, speculation began that the entire list of names wasn't released. That belief was proven correct later, but Marvel still hasn't confirmed the full, lengthy list of names that'll appear.

Among the specific names referenced frequently is a star currently filming his own superhero movie—Tom Holland and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland's name wasn't listed on the initial cast release for Avengers: Doomsday, and little information has been provided by Marvel thus far.

There's still plenty of time to speculate on names and possible superhero cameos in the new film, as Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.

Exercise Scientist Shares the Simple Trick to Crush Any Goal

When it comes to starting a gym routine, one of the biggest barriers isn’t lack of equipment or know-how—it’s motivation. Ask any veteran gymrat, and they’ll tell you once you’ve built momentum, the habit almost runs itself. You start chasing the pump, seeing progress in the mirror, and suddenly, skipping the gym feels weirder than going. But for newbies, it’s a different story. Walking into the gym for the first time can feel intimidating, progress is slow, and staying consistent seems nearly impossible.

But according to Mike Israetel, Ph.D., an exercise scientist and co-founder of  Renaissance Periodization, it doesn’t have to be that way. The secret isn’t some trendy workout or motivational playlist. It’s a straightforward formula that helps you build discipline, track progress, and stay locked in on your goals.

Related: The Exact Biceps Routine a Sports Scientist Recommends for Building Bigger Arms

“Get your lifts right now, slap 20 pounds on each one of them, set that as your motivation, your goal. Set yourself a reasonable time frame, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, and hit the pedal. You know exactly how strong you need to be. And psychologically, the value of being stronger—it makes sense, it resonates. And as you get closer to it, you're feeling your swag a little bit more.”

Every gym bro knows this feeling. You start to notice you're arms filling out your shirt a little better, the weights you used to struggle with feel that much lighter, and you're beginning to see this new version of yourself every time you step foot in the gym or look into the mirror. But the transformation's not just physical, there's also a really important (and underrated) mental shift happening.

“You're not running away from being weak. You're running towards strength. That is a constantly refilling source of motivation for you. One of the biggest mistakes people make with motivation is using it to run from something. Running to something is much more dependable.”
