Beautiful Terengganu: A Very Batik Experience at Noor Arfa Craft Complex
Noor Arfa is a pioneer of the much acclaimed batik industry in Malaysia. The Noor Arfa story has a humble beginning in 1980 in a small atelier in Kuala Terengganu when the husband and wife team of Wan Mohd. Ariffin and Noor Hijerah started designing and hand-drawing their own batik cloth. The venture, known as Noor Arfa, is an acronym derived from the combination of the names of this young and enterprising couple.
A Visit to Noor Arfa Craft Complex, Terengganu
This place is generally frequented daily by bus loads of tourist eager to see the best batik the idyllic state of Kuala Terengganu has to offer.
A visit to Noor Arfa Craft Centre is certainly an interesting one. Apart frpm the shopping experience, they also offer hands on batik painting experience. For just RM10, visitors can paint their own batik artand bring them home.
Behind the scene; Songket being meticulously weave. Certainly not an easy feat and only 7cm of Songket cloth will be produced by hand in a day.
Cloth being painted by using wax. This process is known as ‘canting’.
Batik prints being imprinted on cloth by using brass blocks.
Handmade crafts being weaved from scratch.
And if you are a fan of glass accessories and craft, you’d be pleased to discover that you can commission your own glass craft at Noor Arfa Craft Centre.
Noor Arfa Craft Centre is a must visit place if you seek exclusive batik produce. Pricewise, they are reasonable too.

Beautiful Terengganu: Fishermen’s Village, Pantai Kemasik
If you happen to be driving along the coastal road of Terengganu ,do find time to drop by Pantai Kemasik. I’ve been there during my RW Media Retreat in Resorts World Kijal and I have to say that the place is quietly charming. The public beach is a popular transit for weary drivers and tourist to stop and enjoy the beautiful panoramic view.
Nestled about 10 km north of Kijal town, Pantai Kemasik has huge rocky boulders on the beach which sets it apart from all the other beaches in Terengganu.
Fishermen’s boat spotted in the vicinity of the fishermen’s village nearby.
Small scale market selling fresh produce directly from the sea can easily be seen in Pantai Kemasik.
It was raining during our visit so it was pretty gloomy at the marketplace.
And here’s the fishmonger showing off a huge squid that he’s selling. The sea produce here are definitely fresh, considering that they are sold as soon as they were brought to the shore. Pricewise, they are cheap too and I wouldn’t suggest you to bargain with the fishmongers. The price are already cheap as it is and they are just making ends meet, after all.
Considering the somewhat rocky beach, I wouldn’t recommend swimming but there’s plenty of things you can do here at Pantai Kemasik. You can go for picnic or climb the large rocks to enjoy a better view of the sea, or just shop for a haul of some oceanic goodness.
There’s no accomodation here in Pantai Kemasik. You may set up a tent to camp for a night or two by the beach if you are an adventurous lot but if you are not, Resorts World Kijal is just a short drive away.
For more detailed information on the beach you may contact Terengganu Tourism Office here: +609 – 630 9433 / 90

Beautiful Terengganu: Alfresco dinner at Open Herb Garden, Resorts World Kijal
One place that is great for a casual night out in Resorts World Kijal is the Open Herb Garden.
Unlike the Oasis Beach Bistro that is situated by the beach side that is great for romantic mood, this one is located at a garden in the vicinity of Resorts World Kijal and is designed to cater to those who would like a indulge in a casual night out with great food and wonderful live music in the background.
Leisure Dining at Open Herb Garden, Resorts World Kijal
Check out the video. The video was recorded during my RW Media Retreat in September 2016. Open Herb Garden offers delicious seafood and local food offerings and food that is native to Terengganu like Sata and local favourites like Satay can be found at the uniquely decorated stall.
Sata and satay, guests favourite that night.
Seafood galore. Needless to say, I had a field day indulging in these. One thing led to another and by the end of the night, I ate more than 6 grilled crabs and at least half kilos of prawns.
Local favourites that was a hit among noodle lovers that night was this creamy Laksa Kemaman. Sorry about the plating presentation. We were too hungry to plate it nicely but don’t let the look fool you. This one was sensational.
Local fruits being presented in a very unique way; in a golf buggy.
Durian was in season during our retreat and here’s fresh durian for our gastronomic pleasure. I had loads of these delectable durians that night. Ask me no questions, and I’ll tell you no lies.
Teh Tarik being pulled at Open Herb Garden, Resorts World Kijal
And what’s Malaysian night out without the frothy teh or kopi tarik? Here’s a video of Teh Tarik being prepared at Open Herb Garden.
We concluded our meal with a nice cuppa but we did not end our night early. After the meal, my husband and I joined the live band, Remix Band Rony on stage. We sing and danced the night away til almost midnight with all other guests who felt like joining the fun before we finally called a night.
My writeup does not do justice to the place. It is something you must experience yourself, and if you are ever in Kijal, do give this place a go. You definitely will not regret it.

Beautiful Terengganu: Sea Turtle Conservation Effort in Resorts World Kijal
Resorts World Kijal’s Turtle Hatchery is an initiative by Resorts World Kijal to help boost the sea turtle’s population in the sea since two years ago.
Like I mentioned earlier in previous post in my Beautiful Terengganu series, Resorts World Kijal offers an unforgettable experience to get up close and personal with the ever elusive marine life; the sea turtles.
Resorts World Kijal has taken the initiative to ensure that guests who signed up the Turtle Watching Package get to experience turtle watching or turtle egg relocation at the hotel’s hatchery. It is part of their effort to spread awareness on sea turtle conservation effort and increase the population of sea turtles. We were lucky as we get to experience both during our 3D2N stay in Resorts World Kijal. We get to release turtle hatchlings to the sea and also did the turtle egg planting at Resorts World Kijal’s Turtle Hatchery on our last day there.
Turtle Eggs Relocation at Resorts World Kijal
Turtle Eggs Relocation at Resorts World Kijal. Sea turtles are one of the Earth’s most ancient creatures and can be found in all warm and temperate waters throughout the world. Most sea turtles undergo long migrations, some as far as 1400 miles, between their feeding grounds and the beaches where they nest. Sea turtles can be sighted in various beaches in Terengganu, Malaysia, and the private beaches along Resorts World Kijal is one of them.
Basically, the seven species that can be found today have been around for more than 100 million years, since the time of the dinosaurs and they are facing the threat of extinction and it is really difficult to find the population numbers for sea turtles because male and juvenile sea turtles do not return to shore once they hatch and reach the ocean. Only the female sea turtle will return to the same nesting grounds at which they were born and even then, that’s strictly for laying eggs purposes only.
When females come to the shore they dig out a nest in the ground with their back flippers, bury their clutch of eggs and return to the ocean.
The turtle eggs that have been collected here are planted in the sand and usually hatched in a 60-day cycle.Temperatures of the sand where the turtles nest determine the sex of the turtle: below 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30ºC) is predominately male; above 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30ºC) is predominately female.
Planting the sea turtle eggs into the sand.
Burying the turtle eggs deep inside. After hatching, the young may take as long as a week to dig themselves out of the nest.
They emerge at night, move toward the ocean and remain there, solitary, until it is time to mate. Mating season is commonly March-October, depending on the species with 6-10 weeks gestation period. A female turtle could clutch between 70-190 eggs depending on the species.
A sea turtle hatchling. When the young hatchlings came out of their eggs, they make their way to the ocean. Few survive to adulthood.
And here’s us, getting ready to release the turtle back to where they belong; to the sea.
Releasing Turtle Hatchlings Back to The Sea in Resorts World Kijal
It was really an eye opening experience, and quite emotional too, considering every 100 hatchings released, only one or two will survived. Sea turtle mortality rate is very high not only because of the predatory sea and the nature of the wildlife.
Should you wanna experience something like this, I recommend you to go over to Resorts World Kijal and I have no doubt that you will have an experience of a lifetime.

Beautiful Terengganu: Romantic Seaside Dinner Under The Stars at Oasis Beach Bistro
Looking for a beach romance in the East Coast? Here’s one place that’s just perfect for unwinding with your other half; the Oasis Beach Bistro.
I’ve dine in Oasis Beach Bistro with my husband during my RW Media Retreat 2016 and I thought it was just so beautifully romantic. Located in the private beach of Resorts World Kijal, Oasis Beach Bistro is every hopeless romantic’s dream. It is not only perfect for dining under the starlights, but perfect for proposing to your intended or a beachside wedding reception as well.
Here in Oasis Beach Bistro, you will not only be able to sit back and feel the sea breeze, but you will be able to enjoy your scrumptious meal while being serenaded by local live liveband and cultural performance as well.
Romantic table setting
Bonfire set up in the vicinity of the Oasis Beach Bistro
Traditional dance performance during our retreat.
One of the most memorable experience that night was the special arrangement made by our host from Resorts World Genting and Resorts World Kijal, where we Celebrate the birthdays of September babies in Oasis Beach Bistro on stage. I was immensely pleased and delighted, as being born in September, I was one of the lucky people dragged onto stage. Now, this is definitely a wonderful first experience that I won’t be forgetting for a very long time.
Anyway, enough on the ambience. Let’s get down to business and talk about food offered by Oasis Beach Bistro. The buffet highlights the quality and freshness ingredients in a style that captures the diversity of local cultures.

The BBQ station offers plenty of BBQ favourites like seafood, poutry as well as lamb and beef.
We kicked off our appetite by having crisps salad with Thousand Island dressings.
My husband and I shared a platter of this and we had seconds within minutes
Our second plate of oceanic goodness.
Chef Preparing Pasta at Oasis Beach Bistro
Oasis Beach Bistro also offers ala minute station where you can request your pastas to be done to your liking. Watch the video to see the chef meticulously preparing my customized Spaghetti Carbonara.
And here’s my plate of rich, creamy goodness of Spaghetti Carbonara, with extra mushrooms and shrimps.
Our dining experience was truly wonderful. All we did was relax and enjoy ourselves as the attentive staff caters to our needs while we delight in the tantalizing food, delightful beverages, and the stunning view.
Being together with my husband for 14 going on 15 years, made me wish that we will be able to celebrate our 15th years anniversary here in Resorts World Kijal next year. The place is just so beautiful, with first class hospitality and if you are looking for a great place to unwind in Kijal with your loved ones, this is the place you might want to go.

Beautiful Terengganu: Restoran Kampong Meraga Beris, Resorts World Kijal
Resorts World Kijal is just a short drive from Kemaman and Kerteh, Terengganu and in my humble opinion, it is the only decent hotel within this locality. Previously the hotel was known as Awana Kijal Golf, Beach and Spa Resort and comes with its own private beach. Some of the hotel’s facilities are not only opened to staying guests but also opened to public for a small fee.
There are plenty of interesting things you can do in Resorts World Kijal, but if you are a foodie, you’d appreciate the fact that their restaurants offers to spoil your appetite at a decent price.
My family and I had the opportunity to have lunch and breakfast at Restaurant Kampong Meraga Beris in Resorts World Kijal during our previous trip and I have to say that I’m particularly impressed with their food offerings. Restoran Kampung Meraga Beris is quite spacious and designed to look very traditional.
Diners will be spoiled rotten with food selection over here in the restaurant
Food offerings are pretty interesting. Here’s a feast in a sampan and usually revolves around Terengganu traditional food with Malay and Thai influence.
Some of the appetizers found; assorted kerabu (traditional salad)
Somtam
Mango Salad
Acar Timun dan Nanas
Chillies stuffed with fish paste
Tauhu Sumbat
Piping hot traditional dishes to go with your rice.
Not to be missed is their Nasi Kerabu
Nasi Kerabu is a steamed rice dish mixed with various herbs, especially the leaves of pegagan or often replaced with kemangi, vegetables, spices and accompanied with various side dishes. It was out of this world.
Another must try; assorted traditional Malay soup at the Soup Station.
Their Sup Tulang is to die for.
For those who have sweet tooth, you’ll be pleased to discover that there are plenty of traditional Malay kuih for your enjoyment too.
Savoury kuih like Cucur Ikan Bilis is also available, and this was my absolute favourite that day.
Local fruits to cleanse your palate
My boys and I ended up trying a little of everything and by the time we were done, it was almost one hour non stop indulging.
Overall, the food offered here in Restaurant Kampong Meraga Beris is really delicious but a forewarning though, most of the dishes were on the spicy side, so drink plenty of water and juices to keep the spiciness at bay.
The restaurant is opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Beautiful Terengganu: Banana Boat Experience in Resorts World Kijal
My family and I had this opportunity to ride on one during our RW Media Retreat in Resorts World Kijal, Terengganu, and it was quite an experience.
I rode on Banana Boat a couple of times during my stay in Feringghi Beach, Penang, but was particularly nervous before the ride when I was in Kijal, as I usually go solo and both my son and husband can’t swim. Furthermore the sea looks particularly deep an rough when we were there. I’m the only swimmer in the family, and I somewhat had doubts riding it with both of my boys. I wasn’t really looking forward to play the Baywatch girl in worst case scenario, but then again, it was an opportunity too good to pass and we went ahead for it anyhow and I’m glad we did.
Our Banana Boat being towed in the sea at at incredibly fast speed. I was practically on Adrenaline high. A banana boat or a water sled, is an unpowered, inflatable recreational boat that’s meant for towing. The banana boat ride can often be found in public or private beaches. Different banana boat models usually accommodate three to ten riders sitting on a larger, main tube and resting their feet on two laterally flanking tubes which stabilize the boat. The main tube is often yellow and banana-shaped, hence the name ‘Banana Boat’.
The sea water splashing towards us and had us screaming our heads off in excitement before the boat toppled over and had us panicked for a little while before getting back up. Regardless how many times I’ve been on a Banana Boat ride, it will never be enough to prepare me when it is time to topple us over. It’s part of the fun but it still manage to get my heart stop for a little bit every time. I guess every experience on a Banana Boat is like a first to me. The Banana boat ride is definitely one of the exhilarating activities that guests could indulge in during their stay at Resorts World Kijal, but I wouldn’t recommend it to the faint hearted as it can be quite bumpy and unpredictable.
Resorts World Kijal offers other sea sports rides and activities too, so if extreme things is your thing, be sure to take on em if you want a shot of Adrenaline rush or two during your stay in Resorts World Kijal.
If you are looking for some great escapade in Terengganu, you might want to consider Resorts World Kijal. Resorts World Kijal is currently running a promotion until 31st December, 2016, so if you are heading to the East Coast, Resorts World Kijal will be your best bet.

Beautiful Terengganu: Pleasurable Weekend in Resorts World Kijal, Terengganu
Heaven is a place on Earth. Or that’s what rumours has it. And I’ve been there. To Paradise, I mean. It’s located in Terengganu, the East Coast of Malaysia. It’s Resorts World Kijal.
You see, my family and I were invited to spend a weekend away in Resorts World Kijal and so we embarked on a road trip to Kijal, Terengganu. Resorts World Kijal is located along the East Coast in Kijal, Terengganu and offers an ultimate leisurely getaway for those who are game for some hassle-free beach holiday.
Resorts World Kijal, previously known as Awana Kijal is literally Paradise on Earth. It is rated five-star for not only the size of its property but for its first class hospitality as well.
With pristine sandy private beaches in its background, the place offers a somewhat idyllic and romantic back to nature eco- retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Our journey from Kuala Lumpur to Kijal is just a short 4 hours drive and rather leisurely and enjoyable via Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT). Pretty easy and straight forward to reach if you navigate through Waze, so no worries about getting lost along the way.
My husband, my son and I spent a memorable 3D2N Media Retreat in Resorts World Kijal and here’s briefly sharing our experience in the wonderful place:
Day 1
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Resorts World Kijal welcoming committee and a lively Silat performance before being ushered to check in to our lovely room with magnificent seaview. You may check it out HERE.
But if you are looking for some romance, though, this Premier Suite is definitely recommended; with private tub and outdoor jacuzzi with direct access to the beach.
After checking in, it’s time for some action. While other members of the media opt to stay dry and go for leisurely bicycle ride, buggy ride and ATV ride, my family and I opt for something more extreme, which is the Banana Boat Ride. More about it HERE.
We were already wet afer our Banana Boat ride as it toppled over in the sea as most Banana Boat rides usually does, so instead of trying out other rides like the ATV, Buggy and Bicycle, we decided to stay wet and frolick in the huge swimming pool instead until the sun sets.
Dinner during our first night was at Oasis Beach Bistro. It was a romantic setting by the seaside, and with bonfire, no less. You may read about it in detail HERE.
Turtle watching is an activity that one should participate in while in Resorts World Kijal and we were privileged enough to experience it after our dinner at Oasis Beach Bistro. The sea turtles were rather shy and we did not stumble into any sea turtles coming up to shore to lay eggs but Resorts World Kijal has taken the initiative to ensure that guests who signed up the Turtle Watching Package get to experience releasing turtle hatchlings back into the sea. More about it HERE
Day 2
Our host has arranged for a tour in Kuala Terengganu for us during our second day in the resort. Kuala Terengganu is just two hours away by road. The attractions that we visited included Kemasik Beach, Noor Arfa Batik Craft Complex, Restoran Payang Serai at the Kuala Terengganu Waterfront, Crystal Mosque at the Taman Tamadun Islam and of course, the famous Pasar Payang.
Pantai Kemasik. More about it HERE.
Hands-on batik painting at Noor Arfa Batik. More about Noor Arfa Batik HERE.
Chinese and Thai-style lunch at Restoran Payang Serai at the Kuala Terengganu Waterfront. More about it HERE.
Crystal Mosque, Kuala Terengganu. More about the beautiful mosque HERE
Buying local goods and souvenirs in Pasar Payang. More about Pasar Payang HERE.
After touring Kuala Terengganu, we were brought back to Resorts World Kijal for dinner at Open Herb Garden. You may read more about it HERE.
There’s also nearby tourist attractions to visit in Kemaman itself which can be arranged by the resort so if traveling all the way to Kuala Terengganu for sightseeing sounds tiring and such a hassle for you but you still wanna play tourist, just request for the resort to arrange a Kemaman town tour for you instead.
Day 3
One must do thing while you are in Resorts World Kijal is enjoy the the sunrise. Unlike the beaches in the West Coast where you can only see the sunsets, here in the East Coast you will be able to see the sun rising from the beach and it’s quite a refreshing and breathtaking sight to behold.
We woke up early during our last day in Resorts World Kijal to see the sunrise and go for a nature walk after that before visiting the Resorts World Kijal Hatchery where we were given a chance to plant turtle eggs.
More about the hatchery HERE
There’s more to Resorts World Kijal than just it’s sandy beach. The resort not only offers golfing challenge to golf lovers with its Golf Course, but also sea and land sports for Adrenaline addicts to indulge in. More about the Golf Course HERE.
If that’s not your cup of tea, and you prefer some leisurely indulgence, just give a visit to it’s Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa. More about the spa HERE.
There is something for everyone in Resorts World Kijal, be it honeymooners, golfers and even sea sports enthusiasts.
Basically, Resorts World Kijal is an ideal place for a family weekend getaway. My family and I spent a 3D2N, 1 weekend there and I have to say that we were absolutely pampered and had such an amazing experience over there that I’d revisit again soon should the opportunity arises.
Having underwent a rebranding exercise quite some time ago, Resorts World Kijal is currently offering all sort of holiday packages to its guests. There are currently three packages being offered by Resorts World Kijal:
* Kijal Weekend Golf Package is offered at only RM276 (or RM138 per person). This package includes one-night stay in a Deluxe room with a unique work of art deco bathtub, and a round of golf in the championship 18-hole course for two.
