Ge Tai- The Musical Brings Drama on Stage in Resorts World Genting

My family is pretty much modern and we don’t really observe the Chinese traditional culture that much apart from Chinese New Year and Mid Autumn Festival. More often than not, we do it merely for the sake of filial pity and out of respect towards the elders in our family. But these days, I’ve taken some interests in the traditional cultures in Malaysia, all thanks to JKKN’s musicals and Traditional Malaysian Orchestra’s series of performances in MaTiC that I’ve been attending, where they made cultural stuff not only fun, but free to learn.

I’ve been attending some of JKKN’s free performances regularly with some expat friends every now and then. It’s really fun. We get to dance traditional dance along with the dancers on stage and get to make more friends along the way, and so, when wonderful folks in Resorts World Genting presented me with the opportunity to watch Ge Tai- The Musical, I knew that I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

So, what is Ge Tai? Well, for those who are not from Chinese background might not be familiar with this term, but here’s a brief definition of what Ge Tai is. Ge Tai are open-air concerts set up in various locations throughout Malaysia during the Hungry Ghost Festival in the seventh lunar month. One spooky thing about Ge Tai is that they are not only performed for the living beings to watch, but it is performed to entertain the dead. The Chinese believed that the soul of the dead came back every Hungry Ghost Festival and roamed about pitifully, and therefore these performances are to entertain them and make them happy before they go back to the underworld once one month is up.

In the olden  days of our ancestors, Ge Tai used to feature puppet shows and Chinese operas but now, these have been replaced with dancing and singing shows, mostly in Hokkien dialect. The performers usually wear glittery, vibrant-coloured costumes. Besides singing and dancing, they also perform comedy skits in rapid-fire talking.

The real Ge Tai usually spooks me. It made my imaginations runs wild, but Ge Tai The Musical that’s being showcased in Resorts World Genting is different thing altogether.

The high energy of a Chinese live concert meets the drama of musical theatre in “Ge Tai – The Musical”, a fabulous new show written by Jonathan Lim is a very touching thing to watch. It is not just singing traditional songs all the way like the regular Ge Tai I’m familar with but I could actually feel the heartbreak and joys behind the bright lights of the Getai stage.

Ge Tai -The Musical tells the story of how an unknown amateur performer in the 1980s goes through different trials and obstacles and ultimately blossoms into a getai star.

The production boasts a colourful set, evocative lighting design and over-the-top costumes and it is really interesting to watch with plenty of life lessons about love and kinships.

No spoilers on the storyline but here’s sharing with you some of the scenes from Ge Tai-The Musical.

Ge Tai-The Musical is a must watch for all musical and cultural drama lovers. No fret about not being able to understand the story though it is delivered in Chinese dialects, as subtitles is available for you to refer to throughout the whole performance.

Ge Tai – The Musical will be held at Genting International Showroom at 9pm, from 1 to 4 October and 8 to 11 October (except on Saturday when there will be two shows, at 4pm and 9pm).

#TSDayOut2016: Go Kart Racing in Sepang International Kart Circuit

Adrenaline junkie? A speed demon and is in need for speed? Well, get fast and furious in the Sepang International Kart Circuit. Located within Sepang International Circuit, the track is 1.247km long and 10m wide with 11 challenging curves. The tarmac that is used is identical to the one on the main track to give the best racing experience for the go kart racers.

And here’s us, getting ready to race our hearts out.

Me, caught on track. I didn’t manage to get the best lap and win the race, but it was really a wonderful experience, to be able to feel how it’s like to race on track.

#TSDayOut2016: Behind the Scene in Sepang International Circuit

This is the Sepang International Circuit. Here is where Adrenaline addiction and exhilaration began. My virgin visit was with Tourism Selangor, during their #TSDayOut2016 program.

Initially I thought we would just be watching the 1000KM Endurance Race, but I was wrong. We were brought there to Sepang International Circuit to experience everything about Sepang like never before; up close and personal on track, watching Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race from various stands and of course, the behind the scenes things of what makes Sepang International Circuit ticks.

Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race 2016 is a spin-off event from the hugely successful Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER) , S1K pits production cars below 1900cc and has attracted international entries from as far as Australia and Japan.

The 1000km race is about 181 laps and lasts about 12 hours non stop and the aim is not only to test the endurance of the car engines, but everyone involved as well.

Racers needs to be physically and mentally fit to join the race.

So does the pitstop crews,mechanics, engineers and medics.

And of course, the grid girls needs to be able to literally stand the heat throughout the entire race as well

Life on the fast track. Teabreak at Perdana Suite, Sepang International F1 Circuit. The place looks ordinary, no? Well, there’s more to it than just an ordinary building. This is where SIC hosts VVIPs, dignitaries, royalties during F1 racing and stuff. Strictly off limits to public without a pass.The view of the track from here is simply breathtaking and much better than the view at the Grand Stand.

And now, we had the privileges to watch the 1000km race while having tea. Pretty much a blessed birthday weekend, I must say. I always love all the fast and furious thing.

TS DayOut 2016: Paya Indah Wetlands

There’s plenty of family friendly eco-attractions in Selangor, and here’s one that I think you would enjoy if you want to spend time with your family without blowing up your pocket.

Paya Indah Wetlands, located in between of Cyberjaya offers fascinating wonder to all nature lovers around.Paya Indah Wetlands is a man-made wetlands area built in 1998 on land which had been heavily degraded by tin mining and sand dredging activities. The excavations left by the mining works have been converted into lakes which is now a home to exotic creatures and beautiful plants.

Reaching Paya Indah Wetlands is not that tricky if you use Waze to navigate there. The place is

located about 15 minutes drive southwest of Putrajaya-Cyberjaya.

The main attractions here is of course, the wildlife inhabitants. Divided into a few sections, Paya Indah Wetlands houses animals like hippo, crocodiles and many more in safe enclosure for breeding and documentary purposes.

Two hippos, originally from Botswana, live in the Hippo Pond enclosure.

The best time to see them is feeding time 10am – 10:30am.

They spend most of their time daily being semi-submerged in the lake to prevent their surprisingly sensitive skin from getting sunburnt.

The crocodiles are fed at 11am – 11:30am on Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the Jabatan Perhilitan officer, the fierce-looking crocodiles were transported to Paya Indah from Langkawi.

If you want to catch a magnificent foresty view, just head over to the Paya Indah Wetlands Observatory Tower. During my previous visit with Tourism Selangor for #TSDayOut2016, the tower provided a 360′ degree view of the whole area and we discovered that there’s much more to Paya Indah Wetlands than just the hippos and crocodiles. There’s horse’s stable where they houses some beautiful horses, a Laman Fauna where there’s porcupines and tortoises, and of course, the place where big and small birds lives.

Porcupines are mammals with a coat of sharp spines, or quills, that protect against predators. They are actually huge and the ones living in Paya Wetlands are almost as big as a dog. The porcupines are nocturnal, and no, they are docile creatures and not dangerous. Contrary to the made up fiction and myths, they can’t shoot their quills at you.

It is interesting to note that in Paya Indah Wetlands, the group of tortoises co-habited with the porcupines and heartwarming inter-species interaction between the tortoises and the porcupines can often be seen, where they often share feeding time and takes shelter together.

The great white pelican is also known as the eastern white pelican, rosy pelican or white pelican is a bird in the pelican family and breeds from southeastern Europe through Asia and in Africa in swamps and shallow lakes.

Apart from the wildlife inhabitants, other interesting thing about Paya Indah Wetlands is that they also provide bicycles for those who would like to cycle in the park.

The bicycles can be rented for RM5 for 2 hours. Tricycles are provided for children under 6 years old at RM3 for 2 hours.

Other notable facilities is Surau for the Muslims to pray.

And not to mention there’s a playground for young children to play too.

The Department of Wildlife & National Parks (Jabatan Perhilitan) has done a good job over the years in regenerating an abandoned mining site into a family friendly eco-tourism attraction . There’s even accommodation offered at Paya Indah Wetlands.

If you would like to spend a day or two back to nature in Paya Indah Wetlands, just check in for one of the park’s 29 Chalets. They offer double beds and are air conditioned for RM120 per night. Dormitories and a camp site are also available at RM 9 per person/site/night.

#TSDayOut 2016: Race Your Heart Out, in The Wild and On Track

So, it was my birthday weekend and I decided to go a little bit wild and adventurous with my husband and son this year instead of the usual leisurely getaway. It’s a bit of a last minute ad-hoc decision.

You see, Tourism Selangor announced that they will be hosting a yet another exciting outing and we decided to join in the fun. With the catchy hashtag #TSDayOut2016 for social media enthusiasts to use and share on their social media platforms throughout the program, Tourism Selangor promised to bring us on a full day of fun.

Not sure what TS DayOut is all about? Well, basically TS DayOut is a fun and interactive program initiated by Tourism Selangor to exclusively introduce interesting places in Selangor to the public and the members of the media. It is a long term effort to promote tourism events and attractions in Selangor. You may find out more about it in my interview video above with Puan Noorul Asyikin, the General Manager of Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd.

Our itinerary for #TSDayOut2016 was as follows:

*Photo hunt in Paya Indah Wetlands, Dengkil

* Experiencing 1000KM Endurance Race in Sepang F1 International Circuit

*Race your heart out at Sepang Go Kart Circuit

That’s just 3 items on the itinerary. Sounds boring and mediocre in comparison to my other trips? Wrong. It was fantastic. Here’s sharing with you what we did, in depth during #TSDayOut2016.

First on our list; Photo hunt in Paya Indah Wetlands, Dengkil. Instead of following the transport provided by Tourism Selangor, we decided to drive for our own convenience to travel back home after the day is over.

Reaching Paya Indah Wetlands is not that tricky if you use Waze to navigate there. Basically, the place is

We met up with #TSDayOut2016 participants early in the morning at Paya Indah Wetlands and were briefed about the Photo Hunt and the mini competitions that we can participate during #TSDayOut2016.

Participants were divided into groups. Our tasks was fairly simple. We just had to go on a bit of a treasure hunt where we have to snap pictures of certain landmarks and wildlife at Paya Indah Wetlands in the clues given. Basically the answers that we could figure out were just a lookout tower, crocodiles and hippos. So, we headed over to the Hippo Pond and snap some photos of them.

After such an exhilarating time experiencing the 1000KM Endurance Race and going behind the scene at Sepang F1 International Circuit, it’s finally time to get our Adrenaline all pumped up and race our hearts out at Sepang International Kart Circuit. The Sepang International Kart Circuit is located within Sepang International Circuit. The track is 1.247km long and 10m wide with 11 challenging curves. The tarmac that is used is identical to the one on the main track to give the best racing experience for the go kart racers. Yes folks, #TSDayOut2016 brought us to experience Adrenaline rush on track; through Go Kart racing experience. And this time we’re not just witnessing the race but we get to go on track and literally race our hearts out with each other on the Go Karts. There’s prize involved for #TSDayOut2016 participants, of course, but we were mostly there not for the prize but just for the fun of it.

#TSDayOut2016 was definitely a fun and interactive way to discover Selangor, but the best part is not that I get to go to interesting places that I’ve never been before, but I’ve also learned plenty of important things along the way and I’d join another one of the activities hosted by Tourism Selangor in a heartbeat.

Before I pen down, I’d like to say that Selangor have plenty of attractions that could win your heart over. Interesting places is just in our own backyard, so do come over and discover Selangor.

Must Visit Attractions in Melaka in 1 Day

Melaka is a state in Malaysia and located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Straits of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the south.

Located about 148 kilometres south east of Malaysia’s capital city Kuala Lumpur, 235 kilometres north west of Johor’s largest city Johor Bahru, and 95 km north west of Johor’s second largest city, Batu Pahat, Melaka historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008 and have plenty of must visit attractions for tourists and travelers to explore.

One day is simply not enough if you would like to visit all the historical places in Melaka but if you just have one day to spare and would like to just do the touristy things in Melaka, here’s some brief, must visit recommendations of where to go in Melaka in just one day.

1. Freeport A’Famosa Outlet, Ayer Keroh, Melaka

If you are a shopper, you’d appreciate this newly opened mall.

Freeport A’Famosa is located near the A’Famosa Resort and offers great deals whole year through. The mall have live sized boardgames for you to play and these are scattered around it’s property, making it not only a nice place to shop, but a fun and interactive place to visit with your family and friends.

Bonus? This mall also have splendid instagram-worthy architecture for your photo taking pleasure.

2. Melaka Nyonya Village

This restaurant is not just your ordinary restaurant serving Baba&Nyonya Delicacies, but it also serves as a hub for culture lovers.

Their waiter and waitresses doubles as performers and if you love watching live cultural performance while you dine, this is the place to go.

3. Dissendium Theatre

Dissendium Theatre is located just beside Nyonya Culture Village,

5. Mamee House, Jonker Street

A huge fan of snacks? Visit Mamee House in Jonker Street and learn all about Mamee Snacks. There’s Mamee Gallery where you will shown the history of Mamee.

Mamee House, Jonker Street also offers interactive workshops where you can learn how to make your own Mamee Snacks or instant noodles. Walk in for these workshops is welcomed but advance booking is recommended as availability for the workshops is limited. 6. The Shore Oceanarium

Located at second floor of The Shore mall, Oceanarium is one of the newest must visit attractions in Melaka.

Located just nearby the Dataran Pahlawan and the iconic Porta de Santiago and A’Famosa, the Pirates Adventures offers an up close and personal encounters with real life pirates.

Board the ship and embark on your own adventures to seek for treasures hidden in the ship.

Are you an Ultraman fan? I’m definitely a fangirl. I grew up with Ultraman Tiga in my youth and I still look him up on Youtube occasionally whenever I’m in need of some heroic inspiration. Remember last year I wrote about my  experience watching Ultraman Live in Genting 2015? Well, the show is back. Ultraman Live in Genting 2016 is taking the live entertainment experience to a whole new level with a heroic show unlike anything you’ve seen before.

VP of Events, Promotions and Entertainment of Resorts World Genting and Mr. Tanaka of Tsuburaya in the press conference, the Ultra Fighters are back with more actions this year.

The show’s producers,Tsuburaya Productions, have crafted the show with more high-tech stagecraft and thrilling action scenes. Performed by a full crew from Japan, the show features popular characters like Ultraman Zero, Ultraman Ginga S, Ultraman Tiga, Ultra Seven, Ultraman, Ultraman Leo, Father of Ultra, Mother of Ultra, Ultraman Victory and Ultraman X. Ultraman Returns: Revenge of the Baltans also promises.

A year after the Ultra Fighters defeated the Alien Baltans, humans no longer regard the Ultra Fighters as the Warriors of Light that they once was in awe of. The Ultra Fighters are seen wrecking havoc on the city. Something is terribly wrong.Soon enough it was discovered that they are the Dark Warriors, instructed by the Alien Baltans to seek revenge upon Earth. The battle for earth continues, the Ultra Fighters returns to find a way to defeat the Alien Baltans once and for all.

Public speaking is one of the scariest thing for most people. I’m quite a talkative person in nature. But this is only true when you get to know me better. I usually don’t like to talk to people whom I just made acquaintance with. It feels just so weird and awkward and I always have the nagging feeling that people is scrutinizing me as I speak, in my opinion. I also have fear of speaking in public, and while I have someone overcame my fear for the camera through loads of selfie sessions with my smartphone, I have yet to overcome my stage fright. I don’t know why I’ve become a person with no confidence. I used to be such a bold and daring person but I suspect adulthood has something to do with it as people mercilessly scrutinize me all the time and I suspect, are waiting for me to make a mistake and rub it to my face.

Yes, speaking publicly is terrifying and more often than not, when I’m placed in such predicament, I would stammer. But I don’t intend to let this go on. Being in the media line, I’m required to verbally communicate in public a lot and I surely hope I can speak in an outstanding manner and impress people while I’m at it.

I was looking for some sort of consultant to groom me and help me boost my confidence when an old friend, Josh Lim approached me and told me that he provides such service.
