Request MURDER ON A MOON TREK on NetGalley: https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo...

I use Goodreads to track my reading and TBR list. For that reason, my rating scale is less important. I don't force myself to finish books, and I don't rate books I DNF. Each year I choose my own BOTY from my have-read list.

AUTHOR BIO: Diane Vallere is the national bestselling author of several mystery series. She edited the Agatha Award-winning essay collection Promophobia: Taking the Mystery out of Promoting Crime Fiction. Diane majored in art history at the College of William and Mary and worked in luxury retailing before reigniting her love of fiction. She currently lives in Pennsylvania. Hi Michael,

Thanks for the question! I try to make the mystery the driving force of the story, but the setting needs to be a place where people want to spend time. My Style & Error series is loosely based on Reading, PA, and my Mad for Mod is set around the Lakewood/White Rock Lake area of Dallas, both of which are places where I lived. I set them there to capture what I loved about those areas, and I like to think the settings are inherent to each series.

I invented the town for my upcoming Material Witness series, and the trick there is to give it a town history so it doesn't feel like it popped up yesterday. I have sketched out maps of my town so I know when I'm sending someone north or south and whether she can walk or has to drive. It's all part of the story!(less)

Next I'll put the polish on book 3 in the fabric series, then polish book 3 in the Mad for Mod series. Then I'll take a few days off!(less)

“People who weren’t fans of the actress didn’t understand that through much of the sixties, Doris Day played independent women, characters who owned their own businesses, ran households, and often didn’t need a man. The irony was, she usually ended up with a pretty good one: Rock Hudson, James Garner, and Cary Grant, to name a few.”
Diane Vallere, With Vics You Get Eggroll

“And if you say one word about inconveniencing me, I’ll either charge you mileage or start up a tab that you can repay when you’re in the mood.” I blushed. “That’s not what I meant,” he said with a smile. “But it’s nice to know where your mind went.” He winked and pulled his keys out of his jeans.”
Diane Vallere, With Vics You Get Eggroll

“He reached into his pocket and lip-balmed himself while I stood there.”
