Amazon might make your Fire TV Stick, Echo or Kindle feel worse this month

It’s not unusual for an online retailer to unveil its next-generation devices in September, as the company often unveils things soon after Apple.

For example, in 2023, the company gave members of the media a first look at new products at an event held on the Washington DC campus.

During that launch, we saw updates to the new Echo Hub, Fire Tablets, Ring cameras, and the popular Premium Fire TV Stick line, including a major reboot for 4K Max.

Some products — like the standard Echo, Echo Dot, Kindles, and basic Fire Sticks — haven’t been updated in over a year, so it would make sense for Amazon to announce some changes.

There’s currently no official word on a launch event, but if you’re planning to treat yourself to a Kindle, Echo, or TV streaming box, you might want to consider holding off because something better could be coming soon.

Express.co.uk will be following all Amazon news and will update this article if we hear more.

One thing we do know is that Apple is revamping its smartphone lineup. The US tech giant is holding a major launch event at its headquarters in Cupertino on Monday, September 9.

While the US tech giant is keeping its cards close to its chest, we expect new iPhone 16 models to be released as well as updates to the Apple Watch and AirPods.

The latest iPhones may have faster processors, a new Capture button that helps users take photos more easily, and better battery life and faster charging.

Things kick off at 6pm BST on Monday, with Express.co.uk bringing you all the news live.

Two-thirds of the world’s population suffers from nutritional deficiencies. Check your situation

– Most people – even more than previously thought, in all regions and countries at all income levels – do not consume enough of many essential micronutrients. These gaps negatively impact health outcomes and limit human potential on a global scale, explains Beal.

The study analyzed data from the World Bank’s Global Diet Database and dietary surveys to estimate nutrient intakes for 15 essential vitamins and minerals in 185 countries. Based on these results, it was concluded that more than 5 billion people worldwide do not receive enough iodine.vitamin E or calcium from food, and more than 4 billion do not get enough iron.

But why are these nutrients so important and what foods can we eat to ensure we are getting enough?

Iodine

Iodine is an essential mineral that our bodies need to produce thyroid hormones. These hormones play an important role in regulating our metabolism, which in turn affects our ability to regulate body temperature, heart health, brain development, and body weight, among other things. And yet 68 percent of the world’s population doesn’t get enough of this mineral, at least through their diet.

It is important to note that the study did not examine nutrient intake through dietary fortification and supplementation.which many people in the US rely on to meet their daily nutritional needs.

Interestingly, women were significantly more likely to have inadequate iodine intake compared to men.

The recommended daily intake of iodine is 150 micrograms per day and 220 micrograms per day for pregnant women, and the recommended upper limit is 1,100 micrograms. What foods can you eat to meet these recommendations?

According to the National Institutes of Health, cod is particularly rich in iodine, with a single serving containing about 146 micrograms.

Seaweed – Two tablespoons of dried nori contain 116 micrograms.

Dairy – One serving of plain Greek yogurt contains about 87 micrograms, while one cup of skim milk contains 84.

Eggs – One large boiled egg contains 31 micrograms.

Shrimp – 85 g contains 13 micrograms.

In the United States, many foods are also fortified with iodine, including some types of bread and iodized salt.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in removing reactive waste products (known as free radicals) that can cause damage to our cells. It is also involved in supporting our immune system and communication between cells.

The recommended intake of vitamin E is 15 milligrams, with an upper limit of 1,000 mg.

Severe vitamin E deficiency in the United States is rare, but previous research has shownMost Americans don’t get the recommended daily dose. According to new research, 67 percent of adults worldwide are deficient in vitamin E. Fortunately, there are plenty of foods to choose from to help you meet your daily goals:

Seeds – One ounce of dry roasted sunflower seeds contains 7.4 mg, or almost half the target daily intake.

Nuts – One ounce of dry roasted almonds contains 6.8 mg, while the same amount of peanuts contains 2.2 mg. Peanut butter is also rich in this vitamin, providing 2.9 mg in two tablespoons.

Spinach – Half a cup of cooked spinach contains 1.9 mg.

Broccoli – Half a cup of cooked broccoli provides 1.2 mg.

Kiwi – One kiwi contains 1.1 mg (71% of the daily intake of vitamin C).

Since vitamin E is fat-soluble, you can get the most benefit from these foods by eating them with foods rich in healthy fats, such as avocado, fatty fish, or olive oil.

Calcium

Calcium plays an important role in bone health, as well as blood circulation, muscle function, hormone secretion and communication in our nervous system. And yet 66 percent of adults worldwide do not get enough of this element in their diet.

The recommended dose for adults under 50 is 1,000 mg per day, increasing to 1,200 mg for those over 50. Consuming more than 2,500 mg per day can cause gastrointestinal problems and potentially increase the risk of heart disease, but it is difficult to exceed this limit based on diet alone.

In the United States, approximately 72 percent of calcium intake comes from dairy products—a serving of plain yogurt contains about a third of the daily recommendation, while a cup of milk contains about a quarter—but there are other sources:

Oily fish – 85g of sardines contains 325mg of calcium, a quarter of the daily recommendation. The same amount of salmon provides 181mg.

Soybeans – Half a cup of cooked soybeans contains 131 mg.

Green leafy vegetables – Half a cup of cooked spinach contains 123 mg, while one cup of cooked kale contains 94 mg.

Chia seeds – One tablespoon of chia seeds contains 76 mg.

Beans – Half a cup of canned beans contains 54 mg.

The amount of calcium we can absorb varies depending on the food, and the body needs adequate levels of vitamin D to absorb it.

Iron

Our bodies need iron to transport oxygen in the blood. It also plays an important role in muscle metabolism, physical growth, brain development and hormone production, among others.

Iron deficiency, also known as anemia, affects 4 to 5 million Americans each year, according to research published in the online journal PLOS One. Menstruating women are particularly vulnerable to iron deficiency, which often results in fatigue, dizziness, sensitivity to cold and shortness of breath.

The recommended dietary intake of iron for adults is 8 mg per day for men, 18 mg for women, and 27 mg for pregnant women, with an upper limit of 45 mg for most adults. However, 65 percent of adults worldwide do not get enough iron in their diet.

Iron-rich foods include:

Shellfish – 85 g of oysters contain 8 mg of iron, which is 100% of the recommended daily intake for men and almost half of the recommended intake for women.

Beans – One cup of white beans contains 8 mg of iron, while one cup of kidney beans contains 4 mg.

Lentils – One cup of cooked lentils contains 6 mg.

Spinach – Half a cup of cooked spinach contains 3 mg.

Beef – 85 g of beef contains 2 mg.

Many breakfast cereals are also fortified with iron.

Joanna Racewicz comments on the disappearance of “Panorama”. She posted a revealing post [FOTO]

Joanna Racewicz was there a few years ago TV presenter. She began her media career in the 1990s. She made her debut in Zamość, but was quickly noticed and moved to Warsaw. In the years 1999-2006 she hosted the news program “Panorama”. Then she became, among others, the presenter of “Questions for Breakfast”.

“Panorama” disappears from TVP2 after 33 years

The website she ran disappeared after 33 years from the TVP2 antenna. It was moved to TVP Info. Viewers did not like this decision. Many media people also criticized this measure. Now she decided to speak out on the subject Joanna Racewicz. She posted a revealing entry on her Instagram.

A long time ago. Chapter closed. For me. And for her. She disappears from Two after more than three decades. I haven’t been involved in this since the “second PiS”. He threw the first one too. The accusation was leftism – we read.

Joanna Racewicz posted a revealing entry. She writes about the “final”

A photo of the presenter from the time she hosted the program was added to the post. It used to be a professional house. I’ve never been so connected to any other place. No other has been as important. Maybe because it was the first. Maybe because it gave me a sea of satisfaction. And tears. When I was young and still had no feathers, I had to face challenges that were not mine. – wrote the presenter.

He added that he misses what is important, but what used to be there, that is, “the place, the program, the studio and the people”, no longer exists. I don’t care at what cost. I do not judge– we read at the entrance.

Am I sad that Panorama is ending? Maybe a little. But this is not my story anymore. A rather sentimental opportunity to see myself from before the end of the world. I like myself from the limit. Who knows, knows. The program makes no sense without viewers and an idea. Panorama on TVP Info is quite the end, not the summit– said Racewicz.

I’m glad I saw different and better times. Thank you for a slice of life in good company.
The last one turns off the light. In a moment. The legend will remain – she concluded.

How to watch the Trump-Harris presidential debate

WASHINGTON (AP) — The second general election debate of the 2024 campaign season is here, but it’s the first matchup for the current candidates.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will participate in Tuesday night’s debate in Philadelphia. After a disastrous performance in the first general election debate of this term in June, President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid, turned the campaign upside down in its final months and began a fast-track process that saw Harris emerge as the Democratic nominee. place.

Here’s how to view the conversation:

What time is the conversation?

The debate begins at 9:00 PM EDT on Tuesday and is expected to last 90 minutes. It will be moderated by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis.

What channel is the discussion on?

ABC News will broadcast the debate live on its broadcast network, as well as on its streaming platforms ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu. Several networks have also agreed to broadcast the event live.

Where is the conversation?

The second general election debate of this cycle will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. As in the June debate, there is no audience present.

Pennsylvania is perhaps the nation’s leading swing state, and both candidates have spent a lot of time campaigning in Pennsylvania. Trump was holding a rally in Butler, western Pennsylvania, in mid-July when he was nearly assassinated by a gunman perched on a nearby rooftop. Harris chose Philadelphia as the site where he unveiled Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as his running mate in August.

In 2020, Pennsylvania’s electoral votes put Biden on top, taking him to the White House four years after Trump won the state. Biden’s victory came after more than three days of uncertainty as election officials dealt with a surge in mail-in ballots that delayed the processing of some ballots and several legal challenges to the Trump campaign.

Which candidates are on stage?

The two candidates – Harris and Trump – are on stage, and this is the first time they have met. It’s also Harris’ first conversation since 2020, when he and Trump’s running mate — then-Vice President Mike Pence — spoke through Plexiglas shields during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Biden left the campaign after the first debate, there was some concern whether Trump and Harris would face off at all. After the vice president flipped his way from Biden’s running mate to the Democratic nominee, Trump said he had made a preliminary debate deal with Biden, raising doubts about whether he would meet Harris on the debate stage.

Then there was the controversy over microphone muting — except for the candidate’s opening remarks — which the Biden campaign had imposed in its decision to approve this year’s debates. Some aides have said they regret the decision, saying voters were shielded from hearing Trump’s outbursts. Harris’ campaign said it wanted all microphones to be live, and while Trump said he preferred the microphones to be “probably on,” his campaign agreed to mute the same microphone during a June debate with Biden.

The current ABC framework for the second debate has the same rules for microphone muting, no live audience or written notes.

So far, the candidates have not reached an agreement to meet again for another debate.

What next?

CBS News will host an Oct. 1 vice presidential debate between Walz and Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance. The event is planned to be held in New York.

What’s the next step as the appeal period approaches?

Ripple and the XRP community are enjoying a partial victory in their clash with the SEC, but the drama may not be over yet! With the deadline for the SEC to appeal approaching, tensions may flare up again. Will things get heated?

Read on and find out for yourself!

In a recent X post, attorney Jeremy Hogan speculated that the SEC still hasn’t decided whether to appeal the Ripple lawsuit. Hogan pointed out that filing an appeal is a quick and easy process that only takes 15 minutes. Once the appeal is filed, the SEC has 70 days to file the actual argument. Given the importance of the case, Hogan believes that the SEC would not delay filing if they had already decided to appeal, especially since the current ruling does not favor their position.

Ripple, SEC request delay of monetary judgment

Meanwhile, Ripple and the SEC have jointly requested a stay of the $125 million monetary portion of the court’s judgment. The request comes just days before the September 6 deadline for Ripple to pay the fine imposed by Judge Analisa Torres. While Ripple previously indicated that it had no plans to appeal, this latest move suggests that the company may be rethinking its strategy. If granted, the stay would put the payment on hold, giving both parties more time to prepare for a potential appeal.

Options for counter-appeal

Former SEC attorneys including James Farrell and Marc Fagel have expressed confidence that the SEC can file an appeal before the 60-day deadline, which expires in early October. However, Ripple would have to file a counter-appeal with the Second Circuit Court to challenge the ruling more comprehensively. If Ripple chooses not to file a counter-appeal, it would effectively accept the $125 million fine without further challenge, limiting the court’s ability to address additional issues.

XRP Price Recovers Amid Legal Developments

Following the news of the extension request, XRP saw a modest 2% price increase to $0.562. Trading volume increased by 36%, indicating increased interest from traders and investors. However, XRP price is facing critical resistance at $0.565. Failure to hold this level could result in a drop towards $0.5326 and further towards $0.47 if the bearish momentum continues. On the other hand, reclaiming $0.57 could trigger a more bullish trend for XRP depending on the outcome of the lawsuit.

Looking ahead

With the SEC yet to file an appeal and Ripple requesting a stay, the XRP community is anxiously awaiting the next legal steps. Both sides appear to be bracing for the potential for a lengthy legal battle, and the ultimate decision could have lasting implications for the price of XRP and the broader crypto market. The next few weeks will be crucial as Ripple and the SEC navigate this high-stakes legal terrain.

This one fridge mistake could raise your grocery bills, MSE warns | Personal Finance | Financing

Many of us are guilty of mindlessly packing our fridges after a big deal without giving it much thought. But experts at Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert have now urged the public to think twice about their food storage habits as it could help cut food bills.

Finance gurus pointed out several items you should and shouldn’t keep in your fridge to keep them fresher for longer. Not only does this reduce the need for shopping, but it also reduces food waste.

According to Business Waste, a whopping 9.5 million tonnes of food worth billions of pounds is left behind every year. A significant portion of this, if not recycled, can end up in landfill, adding to the growing problem of greenhouse gas emissions.

“It causes a lot of discussion,” MSE experts agreed. “But the Waste and Resources Action Program (WRAP), a charity that knows its stuff when it comes to food waste, has this advice on how to store different foods to keep them fresh for as long as possible.”

Believe it or not, WRAP claimed that eggs, oranges, potatoes, and almost all other fruits and vegetables should be refrigerated. At room temperature, Allrecipes claims that oranges typically stay fresh for about a week, but in the refrigerator they last a whopping four weeks.

At the same time, refrigeration of eggs is considered necessary in some countries to reduce the risk of illness. Speaking from the US, Healthline explained: “Although refrigeration does not kill bacteria, it reduces your risk of illness by limiting the number of bacteria. It also prevents bacteria from penetrating the eggshell.

“…Once eggs are chilled, they must be refrigerated to prevent condensation from forming on the shell if they warm up. This moisture makes it easier for bacteria to penetrate the shell.”

In addition to this, WRAP also stressed that onions, whole pineapples, bread and bananas should be kept away from the refrigerator. Instead, they should all be stored in a cool, dry place, although they suggested that freezing the bread is also fine.

The MSE experts added: “To prevent the bread from going stale in the first place, put it in the freezer the day you buy it. Then take it out a couple of slices at a time for toast or sandwiches.”

National Broadcasting Council license fees amount 2025 DVB-T2 FM DAB+ satellite cable networks Republika wPolsce24 ViDoc TV TVN TVN7

The head of the National Broadcasting Council announces the amount of fees for granting licenses for the distribution of radio and television programs under the Broadcasting Act and the announcement of the Chairman of the Central Statistical Office of January 15, 2024 on the average annual price index for consumer goods and services in general. The relevant document signed by Chairman Świrski was published in Monitor Polski. Licenses are issued for ten years and broadcasters usually pay for them in annual installments.

The most expensive broadcast of digital terrestrial television

Analogue terrestrial radio broadcasts cannot cost more than PLN 18,923,359 in 2025 (PLN 16,986,889 in 2024 and PLN 14,848,679 in 2023). The fee for a nationwide DAB+ licence cannot exceed PLN 9,461,700 (in previous years: PLN 8,493,447 and PLN 7,424,341). A satellite or cable licence for a radio station will cost a maximum of PLN 774 (previously PLN 694 and PLN 606).

Newsletter WirtualneMedia.pl in your mailbox

The maximum license fee limit for digital terrestrial television multiplex nationwide will be PLN 39,774,617 (previously PLN 35,704,324 and PLN 31,210,073). A satellite TV license will cost no more than PLN 15,369 (PLN 13,796 and PLN 12,059). The fee for a cable TV license will be up to PLN 3,077 (PLN 2,762 and PLN 2,414). We recently reported that the National Broadcasting Council has also increased the fee for registering a broadcaster in the register of operators. Until now it was PLN 141 and from January it will be PLN 158.

The maximum fee ranges influence their values, but in practice they are much lower. In recent months, the regulator decided that 10-year licenses for ViDoc TV, Republika and wPolsce24 will cost the winners of the competitions for seats in the eighth multiplex PLN 17,852,161 (payable in 10 installments of over PLN 1,785 million). The fees would have been lower if the stations had been in the MUX in previous years. In connection with the broadcast issued in December last year According to the new TVN license, the broadcaster will have to pay PLN 15,605,036 million in installments. The Polsat license from October 2023 is worth the same amount. The TVN7 license issued in February 2022 requires a lower fee of PLN 14,859,271. The Antena HD broadcaster has to pay even less (PLN 14,359,573). The decision was made in March 2021.

Terrestrial broadcasting is expensive, but there are many people interested

The license fee is not the only expense related to broadcasting. To this must be added more than PLN 6 million annually for Emitel, the operator of digital terrestrial television multiplexes, and programming costs. Although in many countries the number of traditional TV channels is decreasing in favor of VoD services and FAST stations, terrestrial broadcasting is still very popular in Poland. It allows you to reach almost every third household.

In this year’s competition for two vacancies at MUX-8, applications were submitted for four stations. Due to the election of the Republic and Poland24 The bids from PTV (TV2 Media) and Polska 24 (Polskie Wolne Media – MWE Networks Group) were lost.

The Chairman of the National Broadcasting Council announced the installation of MUX-5 for digital terrestrial television. However, before this can happen, the Office of Electronic Communications will have to organize a competition for the operator of the fifth multiplex. The following companies are interested in this role: Emitel, BCAST and MWE Teleport.
