47 years after the incident, a man was arrested for a double murder after being found thanks to his DNA.

Home

Australian police say they want to extradite the alleged killer, an Australian-Greek citizen who was arrested at the Italian capital’s airport on Thursday and is being held in custody. The suspect was identified by DNA testing from a family member, according to Australian tabloid The Age of Melbourne. The information has not been confirmed by police. The man reportedly lives in Greece, the newspaper said.

Stabbing

“For more than 47 years, homicide detectives have worked tirelessly to identify the perpetrators,” said Shane Patton, Senior Inspector, Victoria Police, Melbourne Region.

The bodies of the two women were found with stab wounds on January 13, 1977, at their home. Suzanne’s son, then 16 months old, was found safe and sound in his crib.

more than 60,000 displaced by floods, one missing

Home

Three of them overflowed and floodwaters reached nearby communities, an official said, adding that damage to buildings and infrastructure was being assessed. One person was missing in Wajima, where several buildings were flooded and roads were blocked by landslides, the department said in a statement. At least one house was hit by a landslide, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, which did not provide further details.

Record rainfall

The Japan Meteorological Agency has put Ishikawa Prefecture on high alert, warning of a “deadly” hazard. Satoshi Sugimoto, a forecaster at the agency, reported “unprecedented heavy rain.” In images broadcast by public broadcaster NHK, a street in Wajima can be seen submerged. Wajima and Suzu were among the cities worst hit by the 7.5-magnitude earthquake on January 1, which killed at least 236 people in central Japan.

Gaza War | Last Minutes of the War between Israel and Hamas, live

SEPTEMBER 20, 2024 – 18:41

Following the violence, demonstrations were banned in four cities.

Home

The ban applies to the municipalities of Fort-de-France, Lamentin, Ducos and Robert. It will be effective from Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m. local time until Monday, September 23 at 8 a.m., the decree further states. Since Wednesday evening, certain districts of Fort-de-France – the capital of the French Caribbean island with a population of around 350,000 – and Lamentin, its neighboring commune, have been under a curfew, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., until Monday.

Price 40% higher

Despite a partial curfew, the night from Thursday to Friday was again “difficult,” the prefecture said, referring to three dams “erected and set on fire in Lamentin” and eight dams in the south of the island. Four people were arrested. The tensions that have been rising for several days are part of a movement against the high cost of living launched in Martinique in early September.

To justify the ban on demonstrations, the State representative in Martinique, in a press release, called for a measure intended to “end the violence and degradation carried out in meetings, but also the various obstacles to daily life and freedom of movement that are detrimental to the entire population, especially during the weekend.”

Grzegorz Borowiec was Krzysztof Ziemec’s guest on RMF FM

Home

Brigadier Grzegorz Borowiec from the National Fire Service Headquarters will be Krzysztof Ziemec’s guest on RMF FM. The topic of conversation will be the fight against flooding that has been going on in southern Poland for several days.

Youtube Videos

The fight against flooding continues in southern Poland, with firefighters helping to block embankments, evacuate residents, pump out water and deliver food.

The National Fire Service deployed huge forces to combat the elements, and also used unique equipment, such as the ubiquitous Sherp crawler and a special pump that pumps 45,000 litres per minute.

What is the work of firefighters in flooded areas like? How many interventions and rescue operations have been carried out so far? Is the equipment they have sufficient? What do firefighters face when working in flooded areas?

We will discuss this matter, among others, with Brigadier Grzegorz Borowiec.

We invite you to Krzysztof Ziemiec’s interview on Saturday right after… 8:30 on RMF FM, RMF24 online radio, RMF24.pl website, RMF ON app and our social media!
