Then they came for me....
Do you remember that poem? First they came (click through to read the whole text and history of its origins in Nazi Germany)
Israel's "popular" English-language news magazine, Ynet, has an interesting article on the current rise of the Radical Islamic Fundamentalist (RIF) activities across Europe. The article notes the RIF population is rising hand-in-hand with the non-Islamic (mostly Christian) open hatred and acts of Anti-Semitism (such as this horrific and very public kidnapping and torture of a Jewish man named Ilan Halimi in Paris in 2006).
I have to say it--and not just because I'm Jewish and hold a dual citizenship (American Israeli) but also because what happens to the Jews is indeed a barometer for world tolerance--a new rise in Anti-Semitism across Europe is not a good thing for the War on Peace.
The RIFs will make yet more headway as more "Good Men" stand silently by and allow Evil to chase away or physically remove Jews from our homes and our lives. We did not fight back when Hitler did it. For nearly a century Jews worldwide have had a mantra: Never Again. Trust me, having been brainwashed into this indoctrination all my life, the world Jewry means never again!!
Since we Jews possess one of the strongest and most lethally armed militaries (Israel's IDF and special forces are in the top 3 worldwide not to mention Israeli Intelligence and counter-intelligence being one of the strongest!) and a strong place in the First World Economic market, I'm not really sure the world wants to make another Nazi-level stand against the Jews. I'm not saying that to make a challenge. I'm saying that because I would hate to be caught in the middle of that kind of warfare. It will not end well.
The 21st century, with social networking and the amount of powerful propaganda that can be spread, virally, through so many worldwide networks, is a very different battle field than Hitler faced. Even setting aside the fact we can amass a defense more quickly now, and the mental and emotional assaults can be countered with internet access (and internet sabotage which the RIFs have battled with for years now), there's the fact that Israel has got nuclear capability. We haven't used it but that doesn't mean we don't have it. That just means we don't want to start something we'll have to finish--because it will end with a finality that cannot be recovered. A nuclear option is not an option unless or until there is no other option. I fear for the day when Israel feels itself actually pressed with our backs to the wall. That's when we'll be out of "other options."

Lacey blows Rainey's Mind (so to speak)
Yes, it is another sex scene (didn't someone once say "sex sells"?) from my current Work In Process (WIP) carrying the working title of the "Lacey / Rainey Story." ISBN finally came through
So Coming Home (Dicky's Story) has finally gotten its free ISBN number assigned from Smashwords, Inc. This means Smashwords now gets listed as my publisher (which is bad because it's not really a publisher but a distributor) but it's worth the misdirection because this also means Coming Home (Dicky's Story) is more visible in searches of publishing industry databases.
Not sure how filters might exclude any books "published" by Smashwords, but at the very least, I'm sure I'll be getting distributed to all possible distribution channels. Smashwords will now send Coming Home (Dicky's Story) out to Apple, Kobo, Sony, Diesel, and Barnes & Noble. I'd already done the Kindle UK and Kindle US stores myself weeks ago.

And Dicky Shall Go Out Into the World
Yay! Got word overnight that Dicky's Story has finally been "deloused" and accepted into the Smashwords Premium Catalog so it shall go out in the weekly distribution for the first time this Friday, April 15th. There was a bookmark bug the Smashwords Meatgrinder script kept stumbling on. Good to know for the future how to kill that bug before sending the file in!!

Rainey & Radovas (part deux)
Well, actually part 5 or 6 but who's counting? It's been a week or more since I posted a blog here & for good reason my dear Goodreaders: I've been writing new material! Here's a tidbit from the follow-on scene - follows onto the long and violent snippet where Radovas breaks out the pliers.
Rainey is so damned feisty for a man who's lying naked on a concrete floor, arms bound behind him, balls literally crushed with pliers, after being beaten to a pulp and practically drowning in his own bodily fluids. Yet he wouldn't be Charles "Rainey" Rainford if he didn't just ASK to get hit again, now would he? And don't forget that Rainey has a filthy (though very kissable) potty mouth so if expletives shock or offend you, do not read on.

“You can see this, yes?”
Rainey eyeballed the phone, making a show of moving his face around to get his good eye a clear view of it and she pulled it back a little. The little cell phone was in power saver mode but displaying the date and time—God, he’d been in Dublin less than twelve hours ago! She’d done all this to him in less than twelve hours? Jesus. He’d been sure it had been closer to twice that long. He really needed to get the fuck out of here, and soon!
Rainey said carefully, “I see your phone.” Then added, “You know, you haven’t got much service in here and your battery’s almost dead.”
She snatched the phone back and stood up to turn it around and check for herself. He had to fight back the chuckle, but was sure his eyes were smiling. Well, his right eye. Good to know she was still that easy to fuck with, even in his diminished capacity.
She looked down at him and snapped, “There is much signal and battery is full.” She shifted to an accusatory tone and said, “You lie with me.”
He’d regret saying it, he was sure, but he couldn’t resist her bad grammar setting up the joke for him. He told her, “I don’t think you can afford to lie with me, Kate. I charge extra for drawing blood and since you’re getting off on it so easily—”
She kicked at his good hip with her left foot. The pain from his balls took his breath away and stopped him from finishing the thought. Obviously, she was not amused. He bared his teeth to smile through the pain. She fidgeted with the Glock in her right hand and speed-dialed with the left, then hit the speaker and pointed it right at him so he could hear it ringing.
Triumphant, she said, “You will not be so fucking funny in five minutes, Karlinotchka.”
He didn't think he was so fucking funny right now, but he was glad she thought he did. She was definitely going to be a pleasure to kill. Slowly.

Snippet, my snippet, wherefore art thou O snippet?
It's right here in my writing area on Goodreads. Though it's violent and sexual enough you may not want to click all the way through. It's something along the lines of a really edgy ARCHER episode...say a rating of "TV MA LSV" Oh and nudity, too. Well, Rainey is naked for much of this book so you should be used to that by now but can we say *yum* :)

Pesach is nearly upon us - so let the ads begin!
I've created a banner ad (my first!) tying the book's inspirational story of Dicky's "birth" and "choosing to be chosen" into the similarly inspirational story of the "birth" of the Jewish people (during the exodus that is now Pesach which runs Apr 18 to 26 this year) and our "choosing to be chosen" at Sinai (at the time now called Shavuot which is Jun 7 this year).
