Dear Author Recommends for July

It’s kind of a light weight month. Maybe July is a month for vacations and beaches where reading doesn’t take place?

Contemporary:

At Last by Jill Shalvis, recommended by Dabney. Reviewed here. ( A | BN | K | S )

At Last is an effortlessly enjoyable contemporary romance. The romance between Amy and Matt is believable, sweet and very very sexy—it’s easy to see them having a healthy, happy future together. The extra storylines of Riley and Amy’s grandmother add depth to the tale. And, all those lu...

Daily Deals: A few animals, writers, and assassins

[image error]How to Talk to Your Animals by Jean Craighead George. $ 1.99

I admit I didn’t buy this book but I’ve read the Julie and the Wolves series by Jean Craighead George with the tot. I think that series should be require reading for any author writing about wolves. George makes Alaska come alive in those books through the eyes of Julie and the wolf pack. I don’t doubt for a minute that George actually speak animal.

From the Jacket Copy:

Based upon the work of contemporary naturalists, psychologists,...

REVIEW: Liquid Lies by Hanna Martine

Dear Ms. Martine:

The thing I appreciated the most about this book was that it was different. The world building presented a somewhat unique twist. Gwen Carroway is part of a massive corporation known as the Company. They sell a special concoction called Mendacia that works like a glamour, fooling the human eye into believing an amputee has all his limbs or an aging actress is forever young.

REVIEW: Carolina Home by Virginia Kantra

Dear Ms. Kantra,

I grew up going to the beach each summer, often to North Carolina beaches, so a book set there looked like a good summer read. And let me say that grilled wahoo, served and eaten on a beach house porch with evening sea breezes blowing in, is some of the best eating I’ve ever had. Lots of contemporaries these days are set in small towns with one or both of the main characters having got there to escape from somewhere, something or someone. This feels like something slightly dif...

Daily Deals: Paranormal, Suspense and Killers for $2.99 and under

No Mercy Sherrilyn KenyonNo Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon. $ 2.99

I haven’t read a Dark Hunter book in quite a while. It was originally published in 2010 and appears to be connected to “Bad Moon Rising”. Kenyon describes the hero as “one of the best love of the Peltier clan.” I don’t know what that means.

From the Jacket Copy:

Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans,...

REVIEW: Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas

Dear Ms. Thomas:

I knew by the end of chapter one, that this book would be one I would remember for a long time. In just that first chapter a well of emotion swelled up and closed the passage of my throat such that each subsequent page read triggeredfeeling. “Come on baby, make it hurt so good. Sometimes love don't feel like it should. You make it hurt so good” sings, John Cougar Mellancamp.

Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas Milly is the only daughter of a very wealthy merchant. He has bought her the Earl of Fitzhugh, an old m...
