REVIEW: Can’t Buy Me Love by Molly O’Keefe

Dear Ms. O’Keefe:

When Jane told me I needed to read your first single-title contemporary, I didn’t hesitate in requesting it from Edelweiss. Jane knows my taste well enough that if she says I’m going to like a book, I am there. And what do you know – she was right again.

[image error]Can’t Buy Me Love is everything the so-called Romance rules forbid: a heroine who dresses like a hooker, has a past bilking old men, and finds protection with an 80-year old jerk who uses her to cook up a scheme to bring his c...

REVIEW: Lust Ever After by Rose de Fer

Dear Ms. de Fer:

I’m not sure what I expected when I requested this erotic novella; the blurb I read intrigued me, though:

London, 1881. The brilliant Dr Frankenstein has a thriving practice in the city, treating ladies for ‘hysteria’ and seducing them along the way. Through his pretty chambermaid, Justine, he spies the perfect opportunity to create what he has always dreamt of – a truly liberated woman. When Justine wakes in the laboratory she has no memory of her former life. All she knows is...

“In 1936, Frankie Foster leaves her Georgia home with high hopes of becoming a movie star in Hollywood. She soon finds work as an extra in a swashbuckling costume picture, but when the producer drops dead at her feet during filming, Frankie knows she must discover the truth if she is to save the picture and her own fledgling career.”

Dear Ms Cobb South,

First let me say I love the setting. Here’s something fresh and innovative that hasn’t been done to death – at least not yet but maybe you’ll l...

When I bought your book, I didn’t sign up to be your beta reader

[NOTE: I originally posted this at my personal blog, VacuousMinx. Jane thought it was a topic that Dear Author's readers might find interesting, so she suggested we repost it here.]

Robin has a thought-provoking post up at Dear Author on reader expectations, book quality, and the dearth of multicultural romances. Only she could make those topics hang together and work in one post, and not surprisingly, there are a ton of comments. In it Robin quotes a section from my recent post on the publish...

REVIEW: Love’s Rhythm by Lexxie Couper

Dear Ms. Cooper:

Thank you for sending this book to me for review. I had just finished an excellent New Adult book featuring a rock star hero (Where She Went by Gayle Forman) and was excited to see what a sexy, adult contemporary would bring me. There were many good ideas in the story but the execution of them faltered and in the end, it just seemed like one sex scene strung together with another.

Monday Midday Links: Judge sets a trial date for the price fixing lawsuit

DOJ Lawsuit

First up in the price fixing case is a letter sent to the Judge reporting the status of the settling parties. I’m in a hurry today so I’m just presenting the PDF and a screenshot. I’ll transcribe it later. The gist of the letter is that the settling parties are working to get 100% participation from the states and are currently working with AGs from 47 states, the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories.

Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for July 2012

Author Open ThreadWelcome to the Promotional Thread for Authors. What’s this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of February would be a March release)

You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book...
