Wednesday News: Chinese Science Fiction wends its way Westward; EroticaCock excerpts; FAA seeking guidance on electronic device usage

Fantasy | Random House of Canada – It’s a slow news day so I’m going to link to the website to Random House Canada which has one of the best publisher sites I’ve seen. It’s definitely a site that is designed for the moment as future release dates are hard to come by. However, it highlights the books above all else and I like that. It doesn’t hurt that the fantasy page has my favorite quote in a werewolf series ever. (It’s from Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, the first book in her Women of the Oth...

REVIEW: Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell

Dear Ms. Maxwell:

When I saw this book featured an MMA fighter as the hero, I immediately snapped it up. The $2.99 purchase price didn’t hurt and neither did the trope: best friend of the older brother. Forbidden loves can be delicious.

REVIEW: Thirteen by Kelley Armstrong

Dear Ms. Armstrong,

All things must come to an end. That includes your Women of the Otherworld series. I can’t believe it’s been over ten years since we were first introduced to Elena, the only female werewolf in existence. And while I’ve liked some books more than others, I still consider this series to be one of my comfort reads. It’s rare for me to find an author who fulfills that role for me so when I do, I tend to hold on with both hands through thick and thin.

REVIEW: Love Unscripted by Tina Reber

Dear Ms. Reber:

I borrowed your book via the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library although it is fairly modestly priced at $3.99 (currently). The book came to my attention when it was highlighted by GalleyCat’s Self publishing bestseller list.

Book Reviewers for Hire Meet a Demand for Online Raves – NYTimes.com – This NYTimes article simply confirms what we know is true. Buying reviews is worthwhile for authors. It’s not ethical, but it works. Jason Rutherford set up a business to sell reviews. At one point he was making $28,000 a month. He would hire people using Craigslist and one paid reviewer earned $12,500 in just a few minutes. She never read the books. She didn’t have time to, you see, she was too bus...

Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for September 2012

Welcome to the Promotional Thread for Authors. What’s this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of February would be a March release)

You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book...
