GIVEAWAY & Excerpt of Beth Kery’s Exposed to You

I read the excerpt of this book in the back ofBound to You, a sexy novella featuring a blind lumberjack (sort of) and a famous movie star, and thought it might be one of the hottest scenes I had read in a long time. I was anxious to read the entire story. The rest certainly lives up to its opening. I emailed Berkley and asked for permission for two things. First, would they allow me to post the excerpt here at Dear Author and second, would they offer up some books to giveaway. They said yes t...

REVIEW: The Runaway Princess by Hester Browne

Dear Ms. Browne,

In all fairness, the title does promise what is delivered. But I found that I didn’t care for a woman who would consider this acceptable behavior. The romance is like one of the heroine’s mother’s fairy cakes or ‘light as air’ sponge cakes. And even the farting dog and images of Amy hauling a wheelbarrow around during her daily work as a garden designer aren’t enough to ground this story for me. Perhaps had I read it 25 years ago, I could have totally bought into it but today...

Wednesday News: Bodyform reveals the truth about periods; MS Surface pricing and ship date revealed; DMCA takedown notice gone awry; Ancient prosthetics

This May Be The Best Response To A Facebook Rant — Period. – An internet troll or comedian or someone named Richard Neill posted a facebook rant about how a Maxipad company lied to him in commercials about a woman’s joyous adventuresome spirit that she adopted during her period. The company created possibly the best response ad I’ve seen yet to so called negative internet feedback:Mashable

Microsoft Surface pricing criticism: $500 too high without Touch Cover – Microsoft Surface was announced...

Avon Romance to debut ReadingSocial App and DRM free ebooks

Avon Romance, an imprint of HarperCollins, was the first to drop agency pricing and is now ready to go DRM free for some books. Tor recently announced that its books would be DRM free. Tor is an imprint of Macmillan. This is tremendous progress. I’m just going to post the part of the press release for your perusal (the deleted portions are just about HC business and fluffery about Facebook).

New York, NY – October 16, 2012 –Leading romance publisher Avon Books is piloting a free Facebook app,A...

REVIEW: Personal Demon by Susan Sizemore

Dear Ms. Sizemore:

Personal Demon is an extension of your popular Laws of the Blood series that I enjoyed quite a bit. What I recall enjoying about the series was the unromanticized version of vampires; there was a careless brutality and a seeming near constant jockeying for power amongst the vampires. It was more akin to Anne Rice than Christine Feehan and they weren’t really romances. The political power of those stories and the strength of the worldbuilding weren’t evident here. Instead, mo...

REVIEW: Further Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman by JB Lynn

Dear Ms. Lynn,

The first book in this series, “Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman,” was a pleasant surprise for me. It’s totally unlike what I normally read and in fact contains some elements I would have sworn would keep me from enjoying it but … enjoy it I did. I knew this sequel was due to be released in October which excited me but also somewhat alarmed me. Sure, I wanted to keep reading further in the life of Maggie, “God,” “Doomsday,” Patrick and all the other crazies of the fir...

To Dox or Not to Dox: Who Decides

On Friday, October 12, 2012, Adrien Chen of Gawker doxed a reddit user who went by the handle Violentacrez. Violentacrez was a moderator of many of the seedy underbelly of reddit’s sub forums (called subreddits and denoted by the letter r with a slash – r/). From his participation in the threads, one could characterize him as a super creepy racist. Doxing is the internet term to describe the publication of personal information to harass, intimidate or publicize an individual.

The question that...

REVIEW: Stolen by Shiloh Walker

Dear Ms. Walker:

I read many a good review for this book but the heroine’s actions seemed TSTL (too stupid to live) for most of the story and it affected my enjoyment of it.

[image error]The two main characters start out with a previous relationship that ended when Shay, a reclusive author, could not open up to Elliott, a bookstore owner. Despite a year long romance, Elliott was no closer to understanding Shay than he was when they started. When Shay’s authorial life is turned upside down, she turns to Elli...
