REVIEW: Cast in Peril by Michelle Sagara

Dear Ms. Sagara,

Longtime readers of DA know that I’m a dedicated fan of yours. If you publish a novel, it’s almost guaranteed that I’ll read it. I’ve followed your Elantra novels about Kaylin Neva since the very beginning. I can’t believe we’re already up to book 8! Time flies. Well, for us, anyway. The timeline is still pretty decompressed within the books themselves.

[image error]Cast in Peril continues the story of Kaylin Neva, our reluctant heroine gifted with magical powers no one completely understan...

Exclusive: FTC moving closer to Google antitrust case – “Four of the FTC commissioners have become convinced after more than a year of investigation that Google illegally used its dominance of the search market to hurt its rivals, while one commissioner is skeptical, the sources said.” The charges are that Google is requiring companies to buy ads to appear higher in the natural search results. REVIEW: 12 Rounds by Lauren Hammond

Dear Ms. Hammond:

This is a book that has problems. There are three different POVs written in three different tenses. Despite the blurb stating that it has been re edited for grammatical errors and minor inconsistencies, there are still several grammatical errors and typos. And really strange ones like up for lip or won’t for want.

[image error]But I really enjoyed the story despite these flaws because I believed in the authenticity of the characters and their conflict. The book had a lot of raw visceral ap...

How to do a Google image search (and why you might want to) #BloggerTips

Jane had a great post aboutcopyright issues for photographs and other images. As anyone who has visited blogs and review sites has probably noticed, people are much more cavalier about using copyrighted images to illustrate their posts than they are about appropriating text. For whatever reason, authors, reviewers, and readers who are outraged about the copyright infringement of books don’t always make the connection that appropriation without permission is wrong in other creative domains as...

The State AGs’ settlement is given preliminary approval (with Update from Amazon)

UPDATED: On October 13, 2012, Amazon sent out emails informing customers of their potential recovery under the settlement over price fixing brought by the States Attorneys General. The email informs consumers of their rights which is that they will be entitled to a refund of $0.25 – $1.32 per book and that they have the right to object to the settlement.

How much you will receive (so long as the settlement is approved) depends upon how many books you bought that qualify for a refund. First, th...

REVIEW: Something About Polly by Barbara Elsborg

Dear Ms. Elsborg:

I had read one book by you before which had been recommended by a friend. While the voice was strong, I pretty much hated the story because the main character was dislikeable lout sleeping with underaged girls, using drugs, and then miraculously being cured by love within one week or so. Because of the story and the high price point of Ellora’s Cave books, I’ve never revisited your backlist.

[image error]I found a recommendation for this book on a goodreads list and decided to take the expe...
