Water dripped from the stalactites above the fire pit and added a mist to the smoky haze in the cave. Jenna trembled and glanced over the flickering, reddish flames to where her father sat. The lines etched in his face appeared deeper than before the global attack.

Harlequin Treasury Guest Review: Cassidy's Courtship by Sharon Mignerey
Cassidy's Courtship was a difficult one to rate since there were so many moments I just wanted to hug the heroine Brenna for all her suffering and applaud her next for carrying on.
[image error]When Cole Cassidy meets Brenna they are at the opposite side. He is prosecuting her for a bad check for a friend of his firm's owner and he doesn't like it a bit. He sees Brenna's fragility and innocence and in the end kind of saves her from signing a document that points that she committed a felony willingly. Of...
Harlequin Treasury Guest Review: Daddy By Accident by Paula Detmer Riggs
Stacy's life changed dramatically since her husband Len was attacked while on the job. He went crazy, burned her house and then while driving recklessly drove his car into a tree and managed to get himself killed. Now Stacy is in a hospital, pregnant & nearly broke. The one stroke of luck was the man that helped her in the accident – Boyd.
[image error]Boyd is a recluse. After a tragedy that happened 3 years ago, he quit his job, did his best to avoid people. And then he met Stacy. She woke something in...
Friday Midday Links: A Retrospective of the Amazing Hermione Granger Series
For any and all prospective employers, here is a list of Borders' employees who are on LinkedIn. And here is a blog designed to collate job postings that may be of interest to those employees.
****
Sad about the ending of the series "Hermione Granger"? A poster laments the end of the series and looks at its strength and weaknesses:
And there we have it: The defining hero of our age is a girl who saves the day with her egalitarianism, love of learning, hard work, and refusal to give way to...
Harlequin Treasury Guest Review: Beauty & the Beasts by Janice Kay Johnson
I don't usually read category romances, but after enjoying several that were recommended on DearAuthor.com, I thought I'd give this one a try. I'm glad I did, because despite its publication in the nineties, it holds up remarkably well.
[image error]Dr. Eric Bergstrom is a small town vet approached by the stunning Madeline Hunter for vet services for the local no kill cat shelter. As a serial dater of beautiful women, Dr. Bergstrom is quick to make his move but is shocked when Madeline won't go out with...
Friday Film Review: Her Night of Romance
[image error]Her Night of Romance (1924)
Genre: Romance/Comedy/Silent
Grade: B
The Talmadge sisters rocked during the silent era but, for the most part, decided to retire from films once the talkie age arrived. In this film, which is paired by Kino along with "Her Sister from Paris," Constance Talmadge, who played mainly light, comedic roles, shines. I had held off posting this review because the film, while out on DVD, isn't available through Netflix – though it can be "saved" there. But now it looks...

REVIEW: The End of Faking It by Natalie Anderson
Dear Ms. Anderson:
I was reluctant to read this book for some reason and had saved it to the end of my monthly HP reading. I've read a couple of yours in the past (Caught on Camera being the one I remember). I mostly got caught up in the setups and the setup in this book was slightly problematic but the core of the story, the heroine afraid of intimacy and the hero that pursues her, is a trope that has always worked well for me. Because of that, I'm sure that I have overlooked obvious...
REVIEW: Darkness at Dawn by Elizabeth Jennings
Dear Ms. Jennings,
I've been reading thrillers since high school. My mom introduced me to Eric Van Lustbader's series, The Sunset Warrior Cycle, which is more fantasy/sci fi than straight up thriller, but in a search for more Lustbader I found a whole lot of Robert Ludlum in the mass-market section at my little neighborhood branch library and have been reading thrillers ever since. It was a highly round-about way to find my way to a genre that has become such a staple of my reading diet over t...

REVIEW: Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter by Lisa Patton
Dear Ms. Patton,
I used to live in Memphis. In Germantown to be precise. My overwhelming memories are The Pink Palace Museum, my father going across the river to buy Coors beer in Arkansas, Elvis, Graceland and listening to the streets get sprayed during the summer nights to try and keep the mosquito population below 8 million. So when DA was offered the chance to read your upcoming second novel about Memphis belle Leelee Satterfield, I jumped at it and shamelessly requested the chance to...
