REVIEW: Doukakis's Apprentice by Sarah Morgan
Dear Ms. Morgan:
You have your share of fans here at Dear Author. Sunita loves your medical romances. Sarah Wendell talked this book up in our podcast so I had to give it a try. Thank goodness this book lived up to its billing else I might not be allowed into the podcast again.

REVIEW: Cold Fire by Kate Elliott
Dear Ms. Elliott,
The first novel of your Spiritwalker trilogy, Cold Magic, was my favorite read of 2010. To say that I've been eagerly anticipating the sequel might be an understatement. I had a few mishaps in obtaining a review copy but thanks to Jane's heroic efforts, I received one last week and I devoured it.
[image error]As a quick introduction for new readers, the world of the Spiritwalker trilogy is an alternate Earth that never was. Many things are different, the main one being that...
Readers Wanted
I received this in my inbox the other day:
I work for a market research firm called New View Research and we've recently been pulled in to do an assignment for Barnes & Noble on romance novels. We are searching for people who love to read books in the romantic genre to participate in an editorial session for a new romance novel that is about to be released. The session is in San Francisco in October on either the 10th or the 11th. Those selected would be flown to San Francisco, with all...
Haiku Review: Song of the Nile by Stephanie Dray
(Lots of spoilers ahead – beware!)
[image error]What happened here, Dray?
Your first book was so very good.
This one screwed the pooch.
In first book, Selene
takes control of her own fate
ends on happy note
this book takes that book
and pretty much destroys it
I hated each page
On her wedding night
to Juba, Selene is raped
by Octavian
She tells her new spouse
He says, I know, I let him
do it. Sorry 'bout that.
Me: What the fucking
fuck just happened in this book?
Seriously now.
If that were not bad
enough...

REVIEW: Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
Dear Ms. Carson:
I remember first hearing about this book when it was sold. The title was so evocative, but then I forgot about it because it is a YA book and while I've enjoyed my share of YA books, my preference is to read adult romances. This YA book has a slight romance in it, but it's not a romantic story by any stretch of the imagination. I held off reading it despite being urged to read it by various reading friends. Finally, I caved and I am so glad that I did.

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase * $1.99 * AmazonREVIEW: Dance With Me by Heidi Cullinan
Dear Ms. Cullinan
I'm going to apologize up-front that this review will not do justice to this book. I don't think anything can do justice to this book except reading it AGAIN. It's just…brilliant. Not without flaws, but brilliant.
[image error]The book starts with two alternating prologues. One is the night Laurence "Laurie" Parker is thrown out of a big (traditional) international ballroom dance competition because he dances in the "follower" role with his male partner (traditional ballroom is, of...

REVIEW: Hellbent by Cherie Priest
Dear Ms. Priest,
I was first introduced to your work with Four and Twenty Blackbirds, your Southern gothic debut. I remember liking it but for some reason, I never picked up another book by you again. It happens. So when I saw this book pop up on NetGalley, I glanced at your backlist and was shocked to discover how extensive it was! Time passes fast. Upon realizing that Hellbent was the second book in a series, I tracked down the first book Bloodshot (which I talked about briefly here) and...
REVIEW: Love and Freedom by Sue Moorcroft
Dear Ms. Moorcroft,
What caught my attention about this book is that you, and English author, are writing an American heroine. I'm so used to the reverse – especially historicals – that I wanted to see how well you'd pull it off. Um, still a few issues and / or word choices here or there to give the game away but those didn't end up being the main issues I had with the story. Let me get to that in a minute.
