REVIEW: In Total Surrender by Anne Mallory

Dear Ms. Mallory,

I have been anticipating the release of your novel, In Total Surrender, since I read about the Merrick brothers in your last effort, One Night Is Never Enough. There's just something about a pair of intellectual thugs that gets my blood pumping.

In Total Surrender is Andreas Merrick's book. The one in which the taciturn and deadly Lord of the Criminal Underworld falls in love with the upbeat daughter of a merchant.

What Jennie's Been Reading (Since September 9th)

By Jennie

So, when last I wrote, I was reading four books at the same time; three long dense books and one other, shorter book. I'm still reading the same three long books, but figured it was time for an progress update, as well as some brief mentions of what else I've read.

Bleak Houseby Charles Dickens: I've moved a little closer to the end of this extremely long book, though I still probably have a quarter to go. At least the threads of the various plotlines are coming together a bit now...

REVIEW: Slow Ride by Erin McCarthy

Dear Ms. McCarthy:

For the most part I've enjoyed this NASCAR inspired series quite a bit even though I'm not a stock-car racing fan and despite some of your more challenging heroines. However in "Slow Ride", I was not able to overcome what I felt was shoddy behavior by the heroine to a somewhat flat hero character.  It was like a reverse HP. Asshole heroine and doormat hero. Maybe I should have reveled in the role reversal but mostly I just disappointed because I've liked this series.

Tuesday ...

REVIEW: Sony Reader PRS-T1BC WiFi Touch Edition

The Sony Reader WiFi Touch Edition (Model PRS-T1BC) has a different look and feel than past Sony Readers. In the past, the Sony devices have had all metal chassis. This made the device a little heavier but solid in feel. Because of the price point and the metal chassis, it was easy to label the Sony devices as a luxury form of a reader.   This new model is $149, a much lower price that it's 6″ Sony Touch predecessor.

This is no longer the case. The front of the Sony Reader is metal but the...

REVIEW: Deadly Descent by Kaylea Cross

Dear Ms. Cross:

I enjoy romantic suspense but I like a good military romantic suspense primarily because other RS often rely upon serial killers for the suspense but the military setting or paramilitary setting is more action driven, less psychological.  I also like the camaraderie between the soldiers but rarely do we ever read about female soldiers.  I was excited to see that this series is about a number of females, at least a couple of them pilots, in a combat setting.

I had read an...

REVIEW: Isle of Night by Veronica Wolff

Dear Ms. Wolff,

 Jaclyn says:

When I opened to page one of Isle of Night I was expecting a historical romance set in Scotland—presumably on the Isle of Night. The ARC I had didn't have a cover image and because I have enjoyed your books in the past I did not seek information about the story before starting to read. My assumption was half right: most of the story takes place on the Isle of Night.

Isle of Night begins with seventeen-year-old Annelise leaving her abusive dad's dingy Florida...

Why didn't the Fomhoire ever just walk up to him and tap him on the shoulder? They would be so much easier to kill that way. Duncan tossed back his fourth Macallan and signaled for another. The bartender gave him a calculated look before grabbing a clean glass for ...
