Week In The Life™ 2022 | Ali's Wednesday
Multiple times today I looked at the clock and couldn't believe what time it was.
Some days I feel like the time moves so slow and other days, like today, I find it hard to catch my breath as I move from one thing to the next.
Aaron and I were talking last night about how bringing Betty into the house has been a jolt to our systems (we've both had dogs so we know what goes into it but I don't think you can prepare for it even when you know what's coming). We've both been running on adrenaline with her this past week as well as working to adjust to a summer schedule in our house with the kids.
I'm also thinking a lot about the comings + goings of kids and how they pop in + out of my stories. Each of them are in different phases/seasons in their own lives with their whole own worlds happening around them.
Our lives are full right now and I'm working hard on not wishing any of it away and simply embracing it for what it is (this project almost always helps me do just that).
Here's a look at my Wednesday:
I want to remember these early mornings even if I feel sleep-deprived. I'm so thankful to be getting outside so much.
I want to remember the light at this time of year as it dances around the house. June has such beautiful light.
I want to remember the tired moments that are all part of establishing a deep connection.
I want to remember the fun stuffed toys that Betty loves so much. It's been fun seeing which ones become her favorites and which ones she could care less about.
I want to remember watching the Obi Wan Kenobi show finale in the morning with Simon before he headed out for an appointment and for work.
I want to remember Anna in this season of her life. She's been so helpful when asked to watch Betty.
I also want to remember those Daphne bushes. They have amazing little flowers that bloom first thing in very early Spring but unfortunately they are also very poisonous to pets. The cats never bothered much with eating plants but Betty is a different story so Aaron removed them.Thinking I'll put more hydrangeas there.
I want to remember the teamwork that's going into these early days with Betty.
I want to remember all those comings + goings of kids + friends with fondness. I love seeing our teens interacting with friends and love having them want to have people over.
I want to remember how hard Isaac advocated for Betty even though he is totally a cat person.
I want to remember that I didn't get my first cup of coffee until 12:30pm because the morning was so busy with Betty and work and kid arrangements and trying to take a nap when Betty was napping. It was a morning that felt overwhelming.
I want to remember and honor how different it is for kids growing up in 2022. We went from having lots of screen time boundaries pre-pandemic to no restrictions. We still have conversations about managing time and have expectations for activities and school work and kids have adapted accordingly. I actually love how connected they are to their friends via chat and FaceTime and it's great for them making plans for hang outs.
I want to remember these almost daily conversations that happen here in my office when Aaron visits to check-in and talk about the day or basketball or what we are planning to eat and watch in the evening (and now Betty stuff too). I also love that I can look back and see photos from past years in this project when Katie was in that spot (she works from her own house now).
I want to remember how the cats are adapting to Betty in their own ways and in their own time.
I want to remember how good a late-afternoon shower can feel as a reset after a morning that felt like it was just too much.
I want to remember the basics.
I want to remember how often I eat leftovers. Today was leftover carne asada mixed into a salad with salty chips for dipping and crunch.
I want to remember how well she sleeps in her crate here in my office with fewer distractions from the comings + goings of kids.
I want to remember how much joy having friends of kids hanging out brings me. We say yes a lot and that honestly feels really, really good.
I want to remember how much I love my yard. These are tiny dahlias in the middle of a bunch of other dahlias that will bloom very tall later this summer. They are so happy.
I want to remember how much I love being barefoot in the grass at all times of the day. My feet are dirty and I'm here for it.
I also want to remember how much I am drawn to the dance of light and dark.
I want to remember how glad I am that I planted these blueberry bushes so many years ago now. They look amazing this year and are so close to being ready.
I want to remember how kind and gentle and supportive he is every day.
I want to remember how much she loves being outside and finding a spot in the dirt to chill and listen to the wind and birds and construction sounds and dogs barking and kids inside and sometimes muffled music playing from inside the house.
I want to remember how much I love quiet moments. I read this puppy book many, many years ago with my first lab and it's been fun to pick it up again and revisit all the things about raising a puppy.
I want to remember this vibe.
I want to remember how much they are currently into riding bikes to the new WinCo for bulk candy. It feels like such a summer activity. We are in a season where we need to get some new bikes and retire some that are too small so there's always a negotiation of who is riding which bike.
I want to remember this gorgeous show called HOME I started watching on Apple+. Have you seen it? The first episode of Season 2 feels like my dream living set up.
I want to remember Elliott hanging out in our bedroom as we started rewatching Barry (HBO) from the beginning. Aaron and I are watching the new season (so good) but we are always looking for group watch opportunities and tend to have a few shows going with different groupings of kids at any one time. A bunch of Elliott's friends are away this week and it's been so nice having him around the house more.
I want to remember after work check-ins with Simon where he tells me about his day and shares any Star Wars news he's come across. Today was a challenging day for him.
I want to remember Anna + Ady making boxed strawberry cake at 9pm that they had picked up on their bike ride to WinCo.
I want to remember this.
I want to remember all the beauty that is right in front of me every single day without even leaving my house.

Week In The Life™ 2022 | Ali's Tuesday
On Tuesday I was tired.
Tired from such an eventful Monday. Tired from early mornings with Betty + the constant attention of puppyhood. It's what's real for me right now.
Tired and happy. Tired and thankful. Tired and taking care of the things that need to be taken care of around here.
Here's a look at my Tuesday via photos:
On Tuesday morning after getting up early with Betty (so thankful that Aaron reminded me that I bought this nice thick robe awhile back and it's perfect for these early mornings) I moved the laundry around with the help of my tiny little sidekick.
Also, in case you missed it I'm sharing short videos of my days this week on my Instagram account. It's pretty fun to add motion to these images and words.
On Tuesday morning the counter and sink were full of dishes - some clean + some not - evidence of kids up much later than adults these days.
On Tuesday morning I refilled the bird feeders that were close to empty.
On Tuesday morning I had my coffee on the porch in the sunshine with my Betty girl.
She currently believes she is a lap dog.
On Tuesday morning Anna was the first kid up (later than Monday as we all sink into summer).
On Tuesday morning I emptied the dishwasher but didn't get a chance to fill it up with the dirty dishes on the counter before I was needed for other things. Aaron finished it up when he was up and around for the day.
On Tuesday morning I paused to behold the beauty that is David Austin's Queen Of Sweden. This one is new to my yard this year and it's amazing.
On Tuesday morning the girls chilled in the living room and my heart was happy.
On Tuesday morning I sat back down at my desk to work on designing Stories By The Month kits for 2023. Lots of design work on my plate right now. I go through seasons when I'm spending more of my creative energy designing on the computer and less on crafting at my table and then it switches.
On Tuesday morning I made my list of personal appointments I need to schedule.
On Tuesday morning Simon visited to share a new Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation trailer.
On Tuesday morning he also read me an article about Star Wars before getting ready for his day that included a couple meetings with adult supports who are part of the independent living program he's joining in the fall.
On Tuesday morning Betty napped away in her kennel.
On Tuesday afternoon I found this sweet note from Anna on my desk.
On Tuesday afternoon Anna, Audrey and I waited until Betty finished her nap and then got ready to head out for some errands.
On Tuesday afternoon we headed to the Farmer's Market + Target.
I love taking these two out and about. They entertain me and I learn so much every single time. They always take turns in the front seat and control the music. Today we listened to Michael Jackson (Audrey's choice) on the way there and to Spice Girls (Anna's choice) on the way home.
On Tuesday afternoon I got to hang out with two of my favorite people.
On Tuesday afternoon at the Farmer's Market today we picked up a flat of strawberries, a flat of blackberries + raspberries, a sweet onion, two yellow onions, snap peas, and a couple tomatoes.
On Tuesday afternoon they made their list that included a bunch of skin care stuff, books, and an inflatable pool.
On Tuesday afternoon they went straight for the graphic novel aisle to see which ones they haven't devoured yet.
On my list were a couple new floor mats, treats for Betty, socks + toothpaste + shampoo for Simon, chips for dinner, and then all the other random stuff that seemed to magically jump into the cart as we went around the store.
On Tuesday afternoon after our Target adventure the girls were inspired to do a summer room refresh. I love it when they move things around and take ownership of their space.
It's totally possible that once Isaac + Simon move out the girls will each get a room of their own after sharing since 2016.
On Tuesday afternoon I sat back down at my desk for more design work while Betty napped in her kennel. It's fairly amazing how well and how long she sleeps in there.
On Tuesday afternoon I went downstairs for some lunch and sat down with Aaron on the couch for a few minutes.
I took almost the exact same photo yesterday. Love that it's a recurring event around here.
On Tuesday afternoon we talked about getting a bigger air fryer.
I wasn't an early adopter of an air fryer but Erin gave us one for Christmas (she likes it at her house + the kids use it there) and we really like using it. We could use a bigger one with all our people.
On Tuesday afternoon I walked back upstairs to find this evidence of the girls cleaning up + cleaning out their room.
On Tuesday afternoon I had a quick chat with Simon before he left for work.
On Tuesday afternoon Audrey, Anna and their friend rode bikes to visit a new WinCo and check out their bulk selection.
On Tuesday evening Betty showed us how good of a digger she is going to be. She's a fan of the big piles of dirt I had delivered in the late spring to create a few more flower beds.
On Tuesday evening I did one of my favorite things which is watering my dahlia plants and checking in on them to see what kind of progress they are making in their growth cycle. And yes, the sunshine is everything.
On Tuesday evening Aaron made burgers for the kids who were here.
On Tuesday evening Betty and I headed upstairs for some quiet time before bed (with the hope of getting to sleep earlier than last night when I stayed up and watched Moonlight with Simon + Aaron). She's seriously the best dog and I'm so happy she joined our family.
Here's to capturing what's real in each of our lives right now.

Week In The Life™ 2022 | Ali's Monday
One of my favorite Dave Matthews Band lyrics is from the song Two Step: Celebrate we will because life is short but sweet for certain.
It's a song that went around + around in my head today as I documented the first day of my Week In The Life project for 2022.
Around here it's the first official week of summer for the kids + the first full week with our new puppy Betty. It's also the last Week In The Life that all seven of us will be here for sure as Isaac heads to college and Simon will be moving into an independent living program in the fall.
Celebrate we will because life is short but sweet for certain.
Here's a look at my Monday:
We brought Betty home last week on Wednesday. She's an 8-week old white lab and she's awesome. She's also a baby puppy who requires early wake ups and lots of attention. I was up for the first time today at 3am (top photo) and then again at 5:30am.
Celebrating watching the sun come up.
Celebrating quick + easy shoes that I can put on before Betty and I head outside.
Celebrating the hand that reaches out to hold mine when Betty and I head back to the bedroom after her breakfast, training, and play time.
Celebrating the sun on my face and watching the sun rise - even sweeter because we've had so much rain this month.
Celebrating this sweet addition to our family who loves to simply sit and sniff and listen and watch.
Celerbrating the daisies.
Celebrating the moment I'm able to make my first cup of coffee.
Celebrating having a house full of kids. Anna, Audrey, and Elliott were all up fairly early considering it's now summer. So far they are either be hanging out on the couch or hanging outside with friends (definitely evident in today's photos). I love that they hang out in the living room when they are on their phones.
Betty is at the stage where she's up for 30 min to an hour and then needs a rest. We are crate training so she naps in her crate in my office while I get some work done.
Making some word art for next month's One Little Word prompt from Felicitas. Celebrating that this is my job.
Celebrating these amazing David Austin rose blooms.
Celebrating a more relaxed summer routine. Since today's the first day we haven't really established any rhythms yet but we did have a conversation with the girls about trying to plan ahead a bit about what kinds of hangouts they are doing and what kind of rides they'll need.
Celebrating just chilling out.
Celebrating crossing another design project off my list. Today I finished up the fourth Scrapbook Kit for 2023.
Celebrating all the times I get to go outside with Betty. Seriously, I've been outside more the last week than I have in a very long time. In and out and in and out and in and out.
Celebrating Simon saying to me “I’m having a good day.” After coffee this morning with friends + then getting to see Grandma and Grandpa. He also said “It can be exhausting having a good day."
Celebrating shared responsibilities and a calm + kind partner.
Celebrating the simplicity of water filling up a dog bowl.
Celebrating a couple of stolen minutes sitting on the couch with Aaron while Betty naps.
Celebrating kids doing jobs before heading off to hang out with friends.
Celebrating kids who value moving their bodies.
Celebrating hugs with my girl who is getting closer and closer to being my height.
Celebrating the quiet moments of puppyhood.
Celebrating these two. Always.
Celebrating how they are growing into good humans.
Celebrating putting away the sheets as I walk by them sitting on the floor for the twentieth time.
Celebrating Mom + Dad stopping by for a visit before heading to a doctor's appointment in town.
Celebrating how like myself I feel in this moment.
Celebrating this.
Celebrating confidence + athleticism + sunshine.
Celebrating catching up + conversation. Simon was filling Grandma in on our Star Wars Celebration adventure and Aaron and Dad were chatting about dogs.
Celebrating the making of plans and the organizing of schedules and carpooling to one of the local trampoline parks.
Celebrating deliveries.
Celebrating a bean salad I made up last weekend and will be making on repeat. Cucumbers + snap peas + feta (mine's dairy free) + white beans + fresh mint + oil + rice vinegar + salt + pepper and today I added celery too.
Celebrating us. Commiserating on our lack of sleep and making plans. Always making plans.
Celebrating simply having him here.
Celebrating him always.
Lisa came up with a fun set of photo prompts for each day this week and today's ways #aeinthemirror. Loved capturing this one of my Simon and I as we said goodbye to my parents after their short visit.
One of the things I'm trying to do this week is capture some of the super basic things that are part of my life right now (like my Birkenstocks above). Sparkling water is the drink of choice around here.
Celebrating Anna and her friends deciding to come over here for a hangout after the trampoline park. I love that they've reached the stage where it's a fun mix of kids.
Celebrating the mess and the extra dishes and the constant need to restock stuff and knowing that it won't always be this way.
Celebrating team work and Anna's first boyfriend.
Celebrating how much Issac loves Betty and how into getting her he was from the very beginning (he's a major cat dude).
Celebrating being the house where they hang out.
Celebrating making dinner (carne asada from Trader Joes and taco stuff) for anyone who wants it with Dave Matthews playing on the speaker.
Celebrating a warm weather local favorite.
Celebrating team work again as they work to get the volleyball out of the tree.
Celebrating Issac and his set up and how much time he's been spending with friends recently. We are super excited for head up the road to Corvallis (Oregon State) this fall. I can't wait for his stories.
Celebrating this. Seriously.
Celebrating the sunshine.
Celebrating more conversation.
Part of what made today awesome was simply having everyone around for so much of the day. A bunch of Elliott's friends + girl friend are out of town and it was awesome simply having his presence in the house.
Celebrating all the things that make each kid unique.
Celebrating these kind of moments.
One word for today: complete.
That's how I feel at the end of today: there was a little bit of everything and a whole lot of goodness. I'll take it.
Celebrate we will because life is short but sweet for certain.
I'm adding my photos to this post at 8:30pm on Monday evening so there will likely be a few more evening photos that make it into my actual project.

Week In The Life™ 2022 | Special Guest Jennie Rey
Hi everyone, Jennie here! I think I didn’t even blink and yet it’s almost time for a new round of Week in the Life again! One of my most favorite projects of the year! It will be a crazy week for sure this year, it couldn’t be more different than last year when it was all six of us in the house, just barely out of full lockdown. This year the week will start with us traveling back from Indonesia where my daughter and her boyfriend are staying at the moment, the next part will be just the two of us and at the end of the week we will be picking up Levi after his stay in Japan. We are also in the midst of selling our house and moving to an apartment (on the 17th floor!), so a lot is going on! Definitely not an ordinary week but I can’t wait to document it!
Because it will be a busy week (or weeks!) I want to set myself up for success so besides informing all of my people that Week in the Life is coming and I will be taking lots of photos I also want to plan my album so I can prepare a lot before the week starts, I will know what photos I would like to include (and how many and the orientation) and so I will know how I would like to tackle my journaling.
For my album this year I will use a mix of physical products, digital products, this year’s layered templates and the digital journal.
In the journal each day starts with a colored page with the day of the week in white on it. I decided to recreate that by making my own transparencies each day in another color and adding the day of the week on top cut out of white vinyl with my silhouette machine. I will include the date with a font that matches the font used in the kit and on the layered templates. On the backside of the transparency I will add the gold foil heart from the physical kit.
All of my photos will be cut in the shape of the photo spots on the layered templates starting with an almost 6x8 photo on the first page. Because I would like to use one color throughout the whole day and to add something interesting to the page I used a stamp set from my stash to stamp a few paint splatters on the background behind the photo. I will do that throughout the album. I will also include a circle with the day of the week (cut out of a journal card) and one of those fun chipboard circle outlines.
On the backside of that first photo I will include one of the layered templates with 4 photo spots. On this page I will have a short recap of the day and I will add one of the plastic pieces.
For the rest of my journaling of the day I am planning to use the pieces from the Week in the Life journal that have the prompts on them. First Ali’s daily sheet to give a glance of what I was doing that day, the –ing words, the gratitudes and feelings and what I want to remember.
I will turn those pieces into a little notebook for each day that will be tucked into a pocket page. I have made this pocket by using the digital transparent dividers: the word art in white on a colored background. The pocket is stitched to the background with my sewing machine.
I backed the pocket with the same background as the front. On this backside I will include a vellum pocket (I used the digital vellum pocket from the Delight Story Kit as a template for this one) with a tag with photos of what was on the menu that day (word art is from the 10x8 Variety Pack). To embellish the page I decided to add the date in one of the (leftover?) circles from the chipboard set.
For the next page I used my sewing machine to turn a page protector with 2 4x6 pockets into a page protector with 2 4x4 inch pockets. I left some space next to the stitching to attach this strip with the day on it, that I created using the word art from the layered templates. I will fill the pockets with more photos and the ‘one word for today’ card cut into the same shape as the photos using the layered templates.
The last page for each day will be a 2x2’s page protector with more photos, some of the vellum die cuts and some ephemera I will collect during the week. I will cut all pieces into the same shape using the layered templates and I will add the vellum heart with the day on it to the outside of the page protector.
I am so happy to have my album all planned out! Before the documenting week will start I can put almost everything into place: I can make the transparencies, the backgrounds with the paint splatters, the pockets, the covers of my little notebooks, my vellum pocket with the tag and my 4x4’s page protector. When the week is over I can just add my photos and focus on my journaling!
I will print a draft version of my little notebook for each day so I can make notes during the week. When the week is over I will add my journaling digitally and print again.
Thank you so much for taking a look at my plans for my 2022 Week in the Life album! I love this project so much so I hope you will find some inspiration or motivation in my plans for this album. I have 12 finished Week in the Life albums and they are for sure some of my biggest treasures because it’s always the same until it isn’t... I have so many moments captured in these albums that were so normal at the time but that aren’t coming back. I am so grateful for this project!
If you would like to see more of my process in Photoshop or get some inspiration using digital kits you can check out my Hybrid All Year Round class!

Add On options are available to all Story Kit™, Story Stamp™, and Stories By The Month™ subscribers (this excludes Digital Story Kit/Story Class subscribers since you don't have any part of your subscription shipped already). Current and new subscribers can select + purchase Add-On's via your new drop-down menu access under your user name in the top right corner of the site: you need to do this before the 15th of the month in order for them to ship with your kit.
Depending on product availability subscribers may be able to purchase the Add-On's after the Add-On period has ended and regular shop shipping rates will apply because they will ship separately from the kit.
Also releasing today is the next One Little Word® Mini Kit. You can read more about this kit here.
