I just finished reading Shadow and Bone and I am so excited you have a blog! I've been drawing some fan art and I was struggling to find good costume references... I think I was on the right track but it helps to see exactly what inspired you! I'm curious,

Fanart fanart fanart! *does the fanart dance* *resorts to elaborate gestures and clapping*

Ravka was inspired by Tsarist Russia of the early 1800s. I have loads of inspiration on my pinterest boards.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Hi. I have questions about your writing technique. First, do you ever have trouble with bad self esteem about your writing and how do you do to overcome it? Second, in the working progress, do you ever feel like the story is writing itself instead of you

1. Um. YES. All of the time. I’m actually about to tackle the next read of this draft and I’m dreading it because I know I’m going to hear that voice, the one that says, “You are not a writer, you are a maker of crap! Look at this crap you’ve made!” So how to deal with that? There’s no magic bullet, but simply continuing to work helps. Telling it to shut the hullabaloo up helps. Also, getting tricksy with it helps: “Why, yes, you’re right. This IS dreadful. And that’s what the revision process is for. Thank you for your input. I look forward to more soul-searing attacks later.”

2. Those are the best days, when the story flows and it feels like the characters are like, “Here, allow me.”

Best of luck with your writing! Wishing you lots of those good days

Hi Leigh! I would just like to say I LOVE Shadow and Bone (I'm not quite done with it yet, but I'm getting there!) and I also love how much humility you have and how you actually talk to your fans and such! It's really great. :)

All an act! I’m really an insufferable diva. *claps hands* *calls for grapes*

Hooray! So happy to hear you liked Shadow and Bone!

And I’m thrilled that tumblr/twitter/GR give me a chance to talk to readers. It’s been one of the loveliest and most surprising parts of this whole journey.

Hi Leigh, I know you're a fan of GoT (ASoFaI) and I was wondering if you could be in one of the houses which one would you pick and why? Also, id there a character in GoT that you ended up liking that you did not like initially? Why do you like this charac

1. JAIME LANNISTER. When I started rooting for him, I knew GRRM was a bloody genius. He’s one of my favorite characters in all of fiction.

2. I’ve never officially committed to a house (I’m fickle like that), but I lean House Baratheon, mostly because of the stag sigil and those house words. OURS IS THE FURY. Ohhhhh yes.

*throws confetti* thanks for the awesome question. gave me a chance to fangirl before heading back to this battle scene.

xo,

Ser Leigh the Second, Knight of the Rhinestone Keep (and no, not kidding, but that’s a story for another day)
