Hi. I was wondering, if Alina, Mal, Genya and the Darkling were real people, would they be your friends? And also, have you borrowed traits from yourself or friends/family for any of the characters? If so, which traits would that be? Finally I just want to
I’m so glad you enjoyed S&B and that you’re looking forward to Siege and Storm!
I have something in common with all of my characters (yes, even the Darkling), though sometimes I don’t see it until the character is actually on the page.
I do sometimes find inspiration in the people around me. The relationship between Genya and David is definitely inspired by the interactions of a couple of friends of mine. And there’s a specific exchange between two characters in book 2 that actually came straight from a text message. Erm… and Eva the pig-nosed cartographer? Yeah, she may have been inspired by a girl who used to pick on me in junior high. Cuz I’m petty like that.

I have a question: why the volcra don’t get out of the fold borders at night (I’m guessing that they can only exist in complete darkness)? If I’m right, during an eclipse there are a complete darkness, so they should come out, right?
There is the matter of starlight/moonlight, but the real issue is that the darkness of the Fold is unnatural. It isn’t ordinary darkness. The volcra were created by the same power and the Shadow Fold is their only real home.

The Grisha Orders: The Grisha are the magical elite of Ravka, also known as the soldiers of the Second Army. They practice the Small Science: they manipulate matter at its most fundamental levels.
Etherealki - The Order of Summoners
Tidemakers - use temperature and pressure to summon and control water.
Oh DANG!! Check out the Tidemakers! That last image is just insane.

Inferni - don’t “magically” create fire. They summon combustible gases like methane or hydrogen, but still need a flint to start a spark.

shadow and bone things : durasts
Glass, steel, textiles, I love it!! (And red is my favorite color. Gimme that gown!)
Will Siege and Storm have a map in it like Shadow and Bone? (Like will there be a map of Ravka or a map of one of the new places Alina and Mal go to in the book?)
Okay, I think I’m allowed to share this now:
YES there will be an expanded map in Siege and Storm :D
Asking if you have seen a hayao Miyazaki film called princess mononoke which reminded of the morozova's stag in Shadow and Bone. I'm a huge fan of yours and super excited for the upcoming novels. Lastly I wanted to ask about the darkling if later in the tr
I have! The white stag shows up in a lot of mythology and folklore (Russian, Celtic, you name it), but I wouldn’t be surprised if Princess Mononoke had burrowed its way into my consciousness too. (I didn’t even realize it, but the big scene with the stag also probably owes quite a bit to Ridley Scott’s film, Legend. Oh, 80s fantasy, so much to answer for.)
And yes, you’ll learn more about the Darkling’s past by trilogy’s end.
