Aaaand the other half of my goofy SHADOW AND BONE...

Aaaand the other half of my goofy SHADOW AND BONE Valentine’s doodles! (Although this one is decidedly less goofy than Mal’s ridiculousness.) (Also, I do not take credit for the genius that is “Villaintine.”)
Okay, this is tapping right into my love for Tahno. Also, can I have that coat pleeeeease??
Re FanFic
Okay, I seem to be getting deluged by fanfic asks today.
Here’s my stance and I’ll admit that I haven’t thought too deeply about this because (as far as I know), there isn’t a ton of Grisha trilogy fan fiction out there.
I’m flattered by fan fiction.
I’m delighted that anyone would feel invested enough in my characters or the world I created to want to write stories based around them—even if it’s because they don’t like where I took the narrative (who got killed, who got kissed, etc).
I’ve had a few people send me fics, and unfortunately, I’ve had to decline reading them. I will admit to being incredibly curious, but until the trilogy is published (and maybe even after), I just don’t want other narratives in my head.
Similarly, when some fic recently appeared in the Shadow and Bone tag, I didn’t reblog (despite the swoon-inducing fancasting of RICHARD ARMITAGE—a moment please, for RICHARD ARMITAGE—as the Darkling). This isn’t because I disapprove of fanfic in any way. It just feels like by reblogging or linking I would be endorsing particular narratives or pairings. I would also be bringing in rogue narratives that I’m not prepared to have blur with my own canon.
Why is fanart different? I’m not sure. It’s not as if there aren’t powerful narratives built into the art that people create, but somehow fanart doesn’t feel like it crosses the creative boundary for me in the same way.
Again, I should probably think a bit more deeply about this so if I suddenly change my mind and start reblogging 50 Shades of Darkling three months from now, don’t hold it against me.
But I just want you guys to know that, even if I don’t read or reblog, I’m honored by any fanfic you’re inspired to create. The same goes for interpretive dance.

Team Fierce Fiction was on a mission last night to play Valentine for our co-workers. We were out to spread the only kind of true love we know— book love! Here’s the photo of phase one. #GrishaValentine’s cards engaged. #booklove

As a fervent fan of N&S, let me tell you--it is WELL worth it. And we shall commiserate with you on the inevitable screaming/throwing things/crying emotions that will commence. ;)
Just finished. I have to get up early for a school event— Sorry children, groggy author spent the night having HER HEART RIPPED FROM HER CHEST AND THEN LEARNING TO HOPE AGAIN. Maybe give her a nudge with your boot.

I’m excited to announce my new blog, which is mainly focused on story — why we need it and why it matters. I invite you to check out my first ever “real” blog post. If you enjoy what you read, I hope you share with others. I’d love to create a community of readers who love stories and want to explore with me as I try to figure out why some work and some don’t, and how story can be a way to see ourselves and our world in a different way.
