7 Ways To Lower Your Auto Insurance Bill

The cost of auto insurance can vary widely based on a large number of factors. It is easy, however, to get in a rut and simply pay the bill month after month without considering other options.

7 Ways To Lower Your Auto Insurance Bill

1. Ask For A Discount

Many times you don't even have to move your coverage to another company to save money. If you simply contact your current insurance carrier and let them know that you are about to start shopping them out, there is a good chance they will offer you a discount. For this call to be effective, you should have at least a couple of other superior quotes to what you are currently paying. This is a great article below that points out that many auto insurers have a 'loyalty' program - one that costs you for being loyal and not frequently shopping for a better deal!

2. Drop Collision And Comprehensive On Older Vehicles

Many people don't understand that although it is a requirement to carry liability insurance, collision and comprehensive are optional. This is the component of your policy that covers damage to your own car. If the value of your vehicle is in the $3,000 to $5,000 range, you might want to consider dropping collision and comprehensive. The thought here is that once the value of a vehicle has dropped to this level, the cost of this component of your policy is cost prohibitive. Even a somewhat minor accident would likely lead to the car being considered 'totaled.' This means that the amount you can collect from your insurance carrier is limited to the point, that it is usually a better value to not to carry collision and comprehensive on an older car. (Note: If you are still making payments on your vehicle, your lender will not allow you to drop the collision and comprehensive coverage).

3. Get Rid Of The Bells And Whistles

When shopping for coverage, avoid costly extras that will add unnecessary cost to your policy. Towing and rental car benefits are nice, but deluxe features like this are usually not a good value.

4. Consider Letting Big Brother Monitor Your Driving

Some auto insurers will offer you a nice discount if you agree to have an onboard tracking device in your vehicle. The device will track things like the number of miles you drive, how quickly you accelerate and decelerate and other factors to determine your 'road risk.' While it does seem a bit intrusive, the device is simply collecting statistics known to be reliable measurements for driving safety.

5. Use The Internet

The Internet has made shopping for a lot of things much easier, and auto insurance is no exception. One option is to get on the phone and start dialing for dollars, but a more efficient way to shop is online.

Here are four sites to use to do your online shopping.

1. Nerd Wallet

2. Esurance

3. Netquote

4. The Zebra

6. Carry Higher Deductibles

Agreeing to be responsible for the first $1,000 of damages to your vehicle can pay big dividends. Moving from a lower deductible to $1,000 can result in a savings of 30% or more.

7. Don't Skimp On Liability Coverage

It might be tempting to lower your liability coverage, but most prudent advisers would suggest no less than 300/500 policy limits. This means that the amount your policy will pay is $300,000 maximum to a single person and $500,000 maximum overall in one accident. Here is a really good article on auto insurance liability limits. Along these same lines, you should always carry uninsured motorist coverage (especially these days with the large number of uninsured drivers on the road).

Amazon's Secret Hidden Deals

A few months ago I discovered the Amazon Warehousea section of the Amazon.com website for open box and slightly used items. Amazon does not generally include products from its warehouse in the general search results from it homepage. So, how do you find Amazon Warehouse Deals? The easiest way to do so is to simply bookmark this link - Amazon Warehouse.

As an Amazon Prime member, I do most of my online shopping at Amazon. What I love about the Amazon Warehouse is that I still get my Amazon Prime free shipping. Also, if I am unhappy with a purchase, I can return the item (Amazon's regular return polices apply).

Whenever I am browsing to make a purchase at Amazon, I always start in the Amazon Warehouse. I have bought countless items and have never had a problem or needed to return anything. This is because most of the merchandise in the warehouse is discounted simply because of damaged packaging.  Unless I am gifting an item, I really could care less if the product packaging is damaged. After all, it is only going to end up on the side of my house in the garbage bin anyway.

Please use the comments section below to share your own experience about buying from the Amazon Warehouse, and we can start a conversation.

Free Book On Home Defense

I just picked up this free book on home defense. All they ask is that you pay for the shipping. I am a big believer in self defense and this book focuses on defending your family from a home invasion.

From the author - Legally Concealed brings you the hardest-hitting book to date on the reality of a violent encounter, how to survive it, and to keep on living after it. This book is everything that shooting and self-defense instructors don't readily tell you but you absolutely have to know. From who you are up against to dealing with the aftermath of having to kill defending your life, Legally Concealed's president EJ Owens tells you like it is.

This is a no-holds-barred look at what it takes to be victorious should you come face-to-face with an attacker hell bent on taking your life. EJ uses his unique down-to-earth approach to put into perspective the mental and emotional toll a life-threatening event demands from you. COUNTERVIOLENCE is the definitive guide on how you have to defend, survive, and console yourself in the event of a violent encounter. If You See Me Using the Litter Box, Dont Stare; Im a Transspecies Feline

by Robert G. Yetman, Jr., Managing Editor,  The James L. Paris Report

At what point would my insistence that Im a cat, as opposed to a human being, be deemed as lunacy, rather than a rational position on social and personal identity? Would the sight of me uttering only meows, cleaning myself with my tongue, using a litter box, sharpening my fingernails on a tree, and running around on all fours chasing miceprompt you to immediately call 911 to say youve stumbled upon a straight-up lunaticor would you instead wrap your intellect, including your powers of reason, inside the cloaks of tolerance and understanding, and let me go about my business as a transspecies feline? How you answer that second question might be a good test as to the limits not of your own inclination towards tolerancebut of your mental stability.

2015-06-27_6-34-37

When a society allows the lines that define even the broadest, natural, inherent boundaries (i.e., I am a human being and not a cat, no matter how enthusiastically I engage in the behaviors typical of cats) to be blurred to an extent so great that irrational behavior is defended as being rational on what is either, in such a case, the highly disingenuous or grossly misguided basis of "tolerance," then all that remains is social anarchy; once social anarchy ensues, there IS no society...only madness, and we will have all become, at that point, veritable prisoners within a national asylum entirely of our own making.

Why Amazon Niche Sites Are Exploding In Popularity

One of the great things about Amazon is that it has EVERYTHING. This is also Amazon's biggest weakness as well. Many times people will find a site like Amazon more than a little overwhelming. If you are looking for a specific item, the large number of choices can make the process very confusing and time consuming. An additional problem for Amazon is that a niche site can easily rank higher in a given category in a search. For example, while Amazon does sell hammers, it would be much easier for a website that exclusively sold hammers to achieve a higher Google rank than Amazon. This is why people are building Amazon niche sites like crazy. What they do is to build a niche site and then simply list Amazon's products on their site. They get a cut of every sale and they are in essence operating as a mini version of Amazon. Take a look at the example below of a niche site on baby strollers for jogging. It is a beautiful website, and you would never know that it is simply operating as a mini Amazon! What's more, some people build sites like this and then turn around and sell them for big money (instead of taking the monthly income). I just bought a course on how to do all this called  Also, for more information on making money from Amazon, check out my recent article

Please note that the Amazon Associates program is not available in Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Missouri, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

Social Media Jobs - A Great Part Time Gig

I am always on the lookout for unique opportunities, especially those that can represent a great part time income. There is a lady in my small town that does very well managing social media for a number of the local businesses. I have been looking around trying to find a good course on this topic that I can recommend.  is a very interesting program. They even have a news segment from a local TV channel discussing the opportunity. Businesses owners understand that getting new customers today is no longer about buying an ad in the Yellow Pages, but having a good online presence. There is a way that you can turn this into a fantastic part time business. I also like the fact that they have a 60 day money back guarantee if you don't feel like the information was worth the money.
