It's funny, now I know that she's based off of you-know-who, I miss Micheal. You just can't win, can you? XD
I miss Michael, too…I was not reading many comics during his biggest popularity. But I always liked what I read of him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back someday. I have no inside knowledge, but I know he has supporters at DC.
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your direct answer as to the Knightfall/Steph question. It really brings me a lot of hope to hear that there are people like you who would do just as much to get Steph back as we would. No offense to Babs, who
It’s not silly at all, honest.
Look, we love those characters, too. We want to write them, we want to get them off the bench. We’re trying. I worked a solid year unpaid trying to bring some of them back.
I’m GLAD people love these characters. It means they’re not forgotten. If people keep pushing, eventually, I truly believe most of them will return. We are SLOOOOOOOOOOOWLY seeing some of that happen already with things like the hints of the New Gods.
Guys like Scott S. and Kyle and I, and the rest of the writers and artists, we’re fans, too. We love these characters, or we would all be off doing other stuff.
When I see a great cosplay of Scandal or a fan sketch of Steph, it’s very bittersweet, but in the end, I’m glad that the characters are remembered and that people are still out there pushing for their return. It does make me hopeful.
And thank you for the kind words.
I'm really sorry for opening this can of worms.
No worries at ALL. It’s a perfectly fair question.
I just don’t want people to think we snuck Steph back in, only to make her a HORRIBLE PERSON like Charise!
In the Light of the Sun At the End of the World: Knightfall is NOT Stephie.
I have just now become aware that a few people are floating this theory. I know the smart move is to just act all mysterious and tell people to keep reading.
But no, she is not Stephie. They are two blonde girls with bad things in their background, other…
Guys, respectfully…it’s a color scheme. The characters look nothing alike side by side.
Truthfully, much as I love Steph, I’m not a fan of the Spoiler costume.
Knightfall was designed by Brett Booth to thematically link with another bat-verse character ENTIRELY. And I think it’s actually pretty obvious who.
It definitely isn’t Steph, whose outfit is softer and less intricate as Spoiler.
Yeah, they’re both blonde, of the same stature, wear purple, and live in Gotham.
There’s no similarities there. No none at all!
Really?
The both “live in Gotham?”
Come on.
This theory is not a strong one.
By the logic of this theory, Batgirl and Batwoman are the same person. Both red heads, both live in gotham, both wear bat costumes.
You would be amazed at how often I have actually heard people say that and mean it…two women, red hair, in the same city, too similar.

McKenna’s story will take a very different turn from Renee’s pretty soon.
Has Renee appeared post new-52 yet?
Fuck Yeah Diomedes: Knightfall is NOT Stephie.

Yeah, I understand.
I have to say, the purple thing is getting a little weird. When Batgirl (Babs) had purple in her costume, honest to god, the LAST thing we were trying to do was remind people of Steph. Steph’s book had been canceled for poor sales.
We had purple in her costume as a bit of a call back to the Batgirl of the television series, that’s why. It was later decided to be a bit muddled, and editorial asked for it to be dropped.
We can’t ban the color purple, obviously, and I have to say, putting Knightfall and Steph right next to each other, they bear almost NO similarity, it seems a real reach.
I will say that originally, Knightfall’s colors were white, gold and red, but I got them to change it because it looked too much like ANOTHER bat-verse character…can you guess who?
I’m not really understanding the sudden outrage here…didn’t we already know that Knightfall was this blond chick? And hadn’t we already seen Knightfall’s costume? I get she looks kinda like Spoiler, but this isn’t really anything new…
Yeah, she was shown already in previous issues both in her masked ID and her civilian identity. If this issue markedly looked more like Spoiler, I would get it, but she actually looks LESS like Spoiler as Ed drew her costume with more complexity and texture than her first appearances.
People just miss Steph. I don’t blame them.

But no, she is not Stephie. They are two blonde girls with bad things in their background, other than that, they are almost completely opposite—Charise comes from extreme wealth and privilege, for one thing.
But the BIG thing is, Charise is a killer, a torturer. She would maim a teenager as a warning to others.
I would NEVER, EVER write Steph like that. I would quit first. So, I am not going to be mysterious, that is not Steph. 100% no.
I don’t believe most of the people who are upset really think that Knightfall is Stephanie. What I am seeing said is that between the design and color choices is that Knightfall looks a great deal like Stephanie. What I see being said is that combining that look and her placement in the Batgirl title as a villain who —as you say— is very much an anti-thesis to Stephanie comes across to Stephanie Brown fans as a very poor and very insensitive choice in light of recent issues and concerns regarding the character. In light of repeatedly being told that she is not permitted to even exist in so much as an alternate universe of the DCU. All it really would have taken to avoid rubbing salt in the wounds of that section of fans was a different color scheme.
Respectfully, I am not at all sure that that’s true…people are seeing Steph in anything purple and/or blonde. Their outfits are completely different, their facial structures are not similar, and Steph smiles, Charise never does (a big difference in comics).
More than that, Charise is surrounded in wealth all the time. And she doesn’t have a light, cheerful bone in her body.
Like I said, respectfully, I suspect a lot of the people floating this theory have simply not read the book but are going by an image somewhere on an angry post. I may be wrong, but the two characters are almost polar opposites.

Appreciating the direct answer. Really, really appreciating it. Haven’t read much of the character only saw a few photos and the theories so I was kind of hoping it would some how work out… But I’m really glad you just came out and said it so that when I do get around to reading it I’m not putting myself through hell thinking Steph possibly turned into a character so sinister.
Believe me, if I could have snuck Steph in the back door like that? Either I or Scott Snyder would have done it by now. We’ve tried everything.
But if I COULD sneak Steph back in (which I have to admit I have mostly given up hope on), it would not be as a torturer and a murderer.
The Oracle thing and the Superman kiss, I didn’t even know about those until you guys did, they are in different editorial offices.
