Hello Gail, can you clarify something about Batgirl 13. The solicit for 13 said that it concludes knightfall plus talon and catwoman appear but the preview today says that it will be prologue to death of the family in addition of concluding the Knightfall

Gah, sounds like another solicit screw-up. Catwoman and Talon appear in the Batgirl ANNUAL, not in issue thirteen. Apologies, I have no idea who wrote that solicit. But I’ll find out.

Gail, I understand what you are saying. But again, and I mean no disrespect, that is some serious bullshit. Lois Lane is the only other character to debut in Action #1. Superman loved her before he could even fly. There comes a point when trying to be di

I now have several asks like this.

What exactly do you want me to say?

You want me to say your exact opinion.

I’ve stated exactly what my opinion is on this many times, you’ve never accepted it, please ask someone else from now on. I do not owe you unconditional agreement and it’s creepy that you think I do.

I'm not sure you can say they want EVERY book to be different. Green Lantern for example has had no discernible changes in it's timeline. Green Lantern #1 picks up right where the previous run left off, but I guess that's part of Geoff's purview as chief

Well, maybe because I most certainly did NOT say every book.

“The point is, with a couple exceptions, DC is trying to clearly differentiate between the two different timelines.”

Also, Batman’s history is more changed than people think.

Honest to god, I still think she is one of the most beautiful women ever, anywhere.

Weird

I have no idea what this is about, but it’s gotten a bit out of hand.

Every day I get emails and anonymous asks trying to get me to explain/justify/defend a ton of stuff I have nothing to do with.

I can SORT of get why people would feel entitled to me telling them long answers about stuff they don’t like in the bat-books. I work in the bat-universe.

But I don’t speak for DC, for DC executives. I can’t speak for books I don’t write or in some cases, even read.

And it’s gotten to the point where one person just continuously sends me asks anonymously over a book I do not write, do not follow, and have absolutely no inside information on (I know who it is, and I kinda wish they would obsess to someone else, I’ve answered them repeatedly).

Even stranger, I’m getting asked to defend books for companies I do not even work for.

Guys, here’s the thing. If you ask me a question, I will answer honestly. The odds are, I will not have your exact same viewpoint. If I answer, and you disagree, and you decide that makes me a corporate sell-out even if I say outright that I dislike an editorial choice, I have to say, that’s not going to endear you to me. If you ask, I expect and trust that you want an honest answer, even if it doesn’t match up with your own opinion.

There’s a LOT of stuff in comics I am not crazy about. You don’t have to read many of my posts to see that. I am very critical of many things, mildly critical of others. And some, I understand, even if I don’t care for it myself.

But it is not in my nature to rag on other creators, in most cases. I just feel that makes the industry less fun for everyone, especially readers. If something’s egregious, yes, I will comment. But my belief system is pro-free speech and pro-differing opinions and creative impulses. The fact that something isn’t the way I would do it is not enough for me to condemn them…the pros that act that way, to me, make themselves look much worse than their targets.

Social justice issues are different, I think they need to be called out and spoken about.  Story choices, I feel like that is not my obligation, and many times, I’ve not even read the book in question.

In short, please don’t send me leading questions where what you want is for me to tear down someone else’s book. It’s just not how I operate. And I’m definitely not going to argue with you about a book I’m not even following.

So please, I will always answer your question honestly. But if you ask a question, please respect my right to answer it in the manner I choose, even if it does not match your opinion precisely.

Okay?

That would be much appreciated!
