Miss Simone, would you say I'm in the wrong for being a fan of Doug TenNapel, despite his rather wrong-headed views on gay marriage? To be clear, unlike Card, all Doug has ever done is make his opinions apparent; he's never contributed to any bills or gro

I am not aware of Doug TenNapel’s views on marriage equality, I don’t really know him.

And all of this stuff is up to everyone’s individual conscience. I don’t want to judge people, that’s not the person I want to be. Who you accept or don’t accept is up to you. But there are real human beings who are the targets of this stuff and they shouldn’t be forgotten because someone is basically an otherwise nice guy.

Hi Gail - This is Josh from Geeks OUT. Just wanted to thank you for your even-tempered OSC post. We'd love to see something positive come from all this for BOTH the comics community & LGBT fans.

First, I love Geeks OUT, you guys do wonderful stuff. Thank you!

Second, there have been a lot of very positive LGBTQ steps in the past couple years from the major companies (we are still behind the independents, obviously), and quite a few more are coming in the next three months or so. I’m proud to be part of some things I am very excited about in this arena.

But there’s still work to do.

femslash february - knockout/scandal savage

You know, I may...

femslash february - knockout/scandal savage

You know, I may misunderstand the terminology…is it femslash if it’s actually an in-canon pairing?

Why are people already bashing The Movement? It isn't out until May, hardly anything has been revealed about it, and you're writing it. I don't see what there is to be mad about.

It’s fine, we knew it was coming. Mostly, a lot of people are assuming it’s about one thing or another, they have no information and they’ve filled in the blanks themselves.

Some right wing websites made up RIDICULOUS stories about what it’s about and got their readership all riled up. It’s funny, but also kind of sad.  It’s possible some left wing sites did the same thing, but I haven’t see those yet.

It’s a superhero adventure story. It’s informed by real-world things, but it’s a DCU book, which allows us to add elements of fantasy.

And that’s what’s fun about it for me.

Hi Gail! I just read in the Guardian about a "chick-lit" novel series featuring She-Hulk and Rogue, and it seemed a little...off to me. Would you write a novel about any of the characters you've written in the past?

I admit I haven’t read much about these, but…I don’t get it, what’s wrong with Marvel hero novels with a romance angle?

To me, that sounds lovely. The execution could be horrible, but the idea is absolutely sound to me. It seems like it could be a decent attempt to be inclusive of young girls.

What’s off about it? I honestly only saw a couple images, I have ZERO inside knowledge.

I would rather be reading BoP that I need right now vs. writing an 8 page philosophy paper about cultural relativism.

Cutest photo, or cutest photo EVER?

Cultural Relativism is so fucking problematic.

The critical theorist in me quivers in discomfort at the mention of cultural relativism. Despite it’s claims it’s still a western construct.

Read Edward Said’s Orientalism instead or Culture and Imperialism.

I am sure I am just showing my ignorance here, but what IS Cultural Relativism, in an educational sense?

wasn't it explained once that superman can fly because gravity on krypton is stronger? or am i mixing things up?

Yes, but that doesn’t explain maneuvering in the sky which he does all the time.

To be perfectly fair, Stan Lee's creations at least tried to explain things like flight. The reasoning behind Thor's flight may be wonky, but there is one, and the same goes for Iron Man, Human Torch and Angel. Wonder Woman and Superman have no explained m

That’s not ENTIRELY accurate  (I don’t remember the Torch’s explanation for propulsion, maybe I missed it, I’m not an FF expert), but Wonder Woman was able to ride wind currents, it was mentioned repeatedly.

And Thor’s propulsion isn’t science, it’s magic. And I have no objection to the Marvel stuff, they made that stuff sound fun and exciting. But there wasn’t much in the way of science about it, is all.

Marvel did a lot, a LOT of stuff better than DC. But DC did science better, pretty much always has.
