I feel the same way as spunkmate. Enough people seem to prefer 'transgender' that I don't make a fuss, but I've been calling myself 'transgendered' for years and the other way just doesn't feel right to me. There's going to differing opinions no matter wha

Thank you for letting us know.

Would you say the preferred term for most is still ‘transgender?’ Or is this a sizable schism?

I want to be respectful. Maybe it’s best to just stick with ‘trans?’

Hey Gail! I read online that it was in your run of Action Comics that brought Livewire into comics-canon. Is this true? After watching MoS with awesome Faora, I'd love to see Livewire in a MoS sequel.

Yes. I fought for a long time to bring Livewire into the comics, and we lucked out because I was friends with lots of the key players in the DC Animated departments, including Bruce Timm, who kindly gave his blessing.

I asked him if he wanted to draw the story, but he felt, correctly, I think, that it would blunt the message of bringing Livewire into the DCU continuity. He felt it would be considered non-canon, more like an animated universe homage.

I am very proud to be someone who has helped bring some of these fabulous female characters into the DCU, either from other media, like LiveWire, or from unbenching them, like Ice and the character at the end of THE MOVEMENT issue two.

It’s not always about creating a character, sometimes it’s a struggle just to make sure great characters don’t get buried or killed or forgotten. It was a lot of effort to get LiveWire for legal reasons, but the animated guys, especially Bruce Timm, could not have been nicer or more helpful.

Also, I tried to use her in Villains United, not sure if she actually made it in.

I remember there were some restrictions, she couldn’t have the origin from the animated show for some reason, and it had to be her first appearance…can’t remember the rest!

Dear Gail, I consider you an expert on what makes for good cosplay. I'm a middle-aged 300 pound 6'8" guy who's looking to try his hand at cosplay. Are there any characters I could pull off besides, let's say, the Blob? I know your going to say "Anything yo

I appreciate the kind words, but I am not an expert on cosplay by any stretch of the imagination. I am simply an admirer.

And I suggest someone with your body shape could play Lobo. Or Batman. Or Spider-girl. Or Princess Leia. Or Ant-man.

BODY SHAPE DOESN’T MATTER.

Play Black Canary if you want. I will follow you around and bust anyone right in the face if they give you shit for it.

Third GOP Senator Announces Support for Marriage Equality

I know it’s a drop in the bucket. I know there are much larger issues with how Lgbtq people are denied their rights and dignity and safety.

But I still find it encouraging. Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska, has become the third sitting US GOP senator to support marriage equality, and has announced it with a mix of pragmatism and idealism.

She said this on twitter, which, to me, is important because it makes it crystal clear how one can be a Conservative and support marriage equality:

“Americans should be able to love & marry whom they choose - gay or straight- & government should get out of the way.”

Now, to me, this plain statement exposes the weakness of the conservative position that lgbtq marriage is a bad thing. Their own principles should have them saying, “this is not the business of the government, to legislate who can marry.”

And here is a bit I found spot-on. Here she’s talking about the basic inequality afforded a lesbian couple that had adopted four kids in her state.

“Yet despite signing up and volunteering to give themselves fully to these four adorable children, our government does not meet this family halfway and allow them to be legally recognized as spouses. After their years of sleepless nights, after-school pickups and birthday cakes, if one of them gets sick or injured and needs critical care, the other would not be allowed to visit them in the emergency room – and the children could possibly be taken away from the healthy partner. They do not get considered for household health care benefit coverage like spouses nationwide. This first-class Alaskan family still lives a second-class existence.”

Lisa Murkowski, I don’t know your other positions but thank you for standing up on this one!

I love Kickstarter. I think that’s clear to people who know me by now? I love it. There’s a dude named Brad Muir and he works at Double Fine and I love the games they make, so much. But before Kickstarter, every time a Double Fine game came out I was a little worried it would be their last,…

Good God, what an asshole.

A Question, Please

I’m curious about something.

How many of you came to the DC or Marvel universes initially through either the films, or animated series?

Did you fall in love with superheroes through comics, or was your first real exposure to them from other media?

And finally, specifically, does your love for a certain character or team stem in any way from film or animation, by which I mean, are you a Batman or X-men fan, for example, at least partially due to the films or cartoons?

This is for a reason…thanks!

At least three of the four items I ordered should be here by the end of the week! I’ll still have VM’s shirt and arm pieces to worry about, but those shouldn’t be any problem.

I can’t wait!

I’ma get a bunch of photos of you as Vengeance Moth!
