Zinda vs Sonja - Drinking contest
Been really bad about posting artwork - mostly cause I haven’t been good at doing it to being with - but I did finish this pair recently (and then again after accidentally erasing the original version and having to start over, but maybe this version is better.. maybe). It’s supposed to be the start of one big picture involving quite the spectacle around a drinking contest, involving other birds and comic characters that would enjoy the spectacle. That being said, with how long it took me to draw these two vectors, the ‘full’ image may take a while, but this is the main event anyway.
Funnily enough, someone else on tumblr very recently asked Gail Simone a question about which one would win in this exact scenario and I’ve, somewhat subtly, tipped the image in Zinda’s favor, but it’s not over yet!
I may work on Sonja a bit more as something feels a bit off - although the lack of eyes was purposeful - but otherwise, I intend to add many more characters to the party.
I can’t stand it.
This is freaking awesome.
How exactly does pitching work? You say they asked you to write She-Hulk. Does that mean they have to reach out to you for a pitch for a series, or can you just kind of come up with something, submit it to editors, and hope they like it?
If you are a ‘name,’ generally they want you for a title and let you know that. The ‘pitch’ is just to make sure you have a plan and direction they are okay with going in, but it’s still pretty much already decided.
There are other, less fun situations. Cattle call pitches are also common, where they will ask for pitches from many writers when they don’t have a specific choice in mind. Whichever is best is the one they choose, hopefully.
Sometimes a pro will want to do a book and submit a pitch on the hope that it might fit the publishing plans, but usually, the title starts with the publisher.
Who would win an arm wrestle between She-Hulk and Wonder Woman?
I’m sorry, Shulkie. It’s Diana in a walk.
I mean, come on. WONDER WOMAN.

It can WAIT!
To this day, I am amazed they let me show a banshee’s face as she orgasms in a bathtub while having sex, as a killing is going on downstairs.
Secret Six: wholesome fun for everyone!
Wow!
One of the writers of THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE just told me that he had a little Gail Simone in his head when he was writing quests.
His wife is a big Birds of Prey fan, and that got him reading my stuff and he became a fan, and reading my tumblr and twitter posts made him want to ensure diversity and inclusion in the game quests he was responsible for.
Does this make my day?
Why yes, yes it does. :)
Now I want to play it even more!
What would be your pitch for a She-Hulk book? Jen is definitely one of the next Marvel characters you should write.
I was in fact asked to do the new She-Hulk book but it was extremely short notice and I could not work it in, in time, darn it. So I don’t have a pitch for it.
Charles was the right guy to do the book, with his background as a lawyer.
Right. Like, Cap was GIVEN his powers through a super-serum, and Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben were normal homo sapiens UNTIL they got a good dose of space radiation, and the same goes for other heroes like Ms. Marvel. The mutants were NEVER 'normal'. From
That’s my thinking.
In the X-universe, people are not usually terrified of mutants (well, barring the really scary-looking ones) until they are identified as mutants.
I think that still holds up well with people who ‘pass’ as white or straight or cis or whatever. People are fine with them until they are identified differently.
Which is what makes it so sad.
Wait, it's five years in the future and Babs isn't Oracle yet?
Did I say that?
How did the idea for the Western issue of Secret Six come about?
Honestly, the idea just hit me one day. I do remember that the series THE PRISONER had done a Western episode, that could have been in the mix somewhere.
But I love to experiment, and the idea of those same characters in a different setting really tickled me. It’s one of my favorite issues. I remember a lot of people writing asking, what is going on? They were looking for it to connect to the DCU continuity, somehow.
The cool thing was, after the issue, several artists wrote me and wanted to do a PIRATE issue or a VIKING issue.
