Gail, thank you so much for making that comics survival kit tumblr.

It’s my pleasure!

I had gotten so much wonderful stuff like this over the years, I just wanted more people to be able to benefit from it.

Lots more coming!

Okay!

Holy mackerel!

I started the Comics Survival Kit here on Tumblr, at

http://comicssurvivalkit.tumblr.com/

as a way to help people trying to break into the industry. The idea was to include short, helpful articles from people who have succeeded in breaking in in various ways. Not just inspirational stuff, but hardcore, pavement-level advice that can actually help.

I asked a bunch of my friends for their best short advice, and we got people like Adam Hughes, Pia Guerra, Kurt Busiek, Greg Pak, and many more. I am very proud of it, but we are just starting, LOTS more is coming. All free, all designed to help people try to achieve their goals and dreams.

Mostly, the advice so far has been for writers, but a lot more stuff is coming up over the next few weeks. Advice from retailers, publishers, kickstarter wizards, self-publishers, and many, many more.

I had no idea it would take off like this, I just wanted to create a little thing to pay forward some of the kind help I received breaking in.

Well, it turns out there are a LOT of you reading this thing!

Tumblr has informed me that:

a) it’s already a trending Tumblr, and

b) they will be featuring it as a Tumblr Resource, where potentially hundreds of thousands of people will see it.

I am excited.  I have a dream that a lot of people will use this advice to make their comics journeys less painful and costly.

So, there are some ways you can help with this group project!

1) Spread the word!  Even just reblogging is helpful, the more people that see it the easier it is to get additional contributions.

2) Add to it, comment and stuff!

3) If you are a pro in the industry, either a creator, or a publisher, editor, retailer, con organizer, or any other professional in the industry, we need short, truthful articles about all facets of the industry. How do you do what you do? How can a creator make the most of your relationship?  Technical articles are needed too, but we are looking for short, punchy, honest advice, not just inspirational rah rah stuff. If we use your article, we also include a link to your site or work, whatever you like. No one is getting paid, and no one is looking to get paid…I started this solely as a resource for people. If you would like to help, that’s lovely!

I especially would love to have some articles from successful webcomics creators, as that is a topic I know very little about and I know many people are interested!

That’s about it! WOOT!

That last post made me realize that, while I did post a picture with this sketch in it, I had yet to post a nice, clear shot of it.

So, here is the Vengeance Moth sketch, which I got from Dustin Nguyen. To be honest, I’d been wanting to get something from him for a while, and specifically of Moth since last year’s SDCC.

One of these days, I will get something of the whole team from him.

Prepare yourself, Nguyen, because it’s gonna happen.

I can’t stand how cute this is.

I just can’t put my finger on what it is, but something made me really want to bring this post back.

Is it Deadshot?

Hi Gail!! Will you be at SDCC this year by any chance?? I would be honored to have you sign my Wondie armor! <3

I wasn’t planning on going…but there is a slim chance. Deciding today. If I DO go, it will only be for a day or two and I am not sure if I will be doing signings. However, I will be happy to sign your armor if we coordinate somewhere!

My prediction: Mystique

berenzero:

Tonight on the Colbert Report, Marvel is announcing a new comic. I think it will be Mystique, and written by Gail Simone.

Anyone want to take bets on this? :D

Interesting!
