So you've previously gone on record as being a hair stylist before becoming the living embodiment of awesome female comic writers. Have you ever been at a con and seen someone's hair and just thought, "If only I had a pair of scissors"?

HA!

Not really, it’s more likely the opposite, I see someone’s hair and it looks amazing and I just can’t stop looking at it.

I was, honestly, a really, really good stylist, but my salon was in a small town and I didn’t get the opportunity to be as creative as I might like. When someone wanted a cool cut, that was just a very happy thing.

I let my license lapse ages ago. I only do my family’s hair now, I have my own hair done by someone else.

The one time I mixed hairdressing with comics was AWFUL.

It was at a con in, I think Toronto, and this good looking guy agreed to have his head shaved for charity. I THINK for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

George Perez was going to shave his head in public, at the con. But the clippers they had were godawful, like they came over on the Mayflower, and the blades were dull. It was literally ripping the hair out of his scalp, and taking chunks of flesh with it.

So they called me over, and asked me to do it. And that was absolutely miserable…he was such a good sport but the clippers were so clearly hurting him. I tried them on him and I just had to stop, it was like performing surgery with a golf putter. I mean, the guy was bleeding, it was horrible. George Perez was lovely, he said it was our first collaboration.

ANYWAY, someone eventually got a set of cheap, but decent, clippers and I finished up,  but I won’t do anything like that again. It was awful!

The very first con I went to, a female pro friend talked me into coloring her hair and cutting it in the hotel room, that was also a nightmare.  Oh, and I’ve cut my husband’s hair after spending an hour in New Zealand looking for a workable pair of shears.

My own shears that I use are hideously expensive, it’s always a drag to try to do the same work with the stuff you buy at a drug store!

Short question, long answer, sorry. :)

This was my hair-raising post for READ A COMIC IN PUBLIC DAY a couple years ago.

It took a half an hour to get my hair to do that, and yet, this is what it looks like NATURALLY if I don’t want it to!

READ A COMIC IN PUBLIC DAY is good fun, show your photos, everyone!

Happy to have stumbled upon The Comics Survival Kit and your personal blog. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Thank you!

I have been swamped for a bit but I do have some cool new exclusive updates going this weekend, including a super-sneak preview of a great new book on creating comics that I can’t wait to share. Excited!

I saw Stephanie Buscema's tweet about doing her last Red Sonja cover. Since she's been part of the team since the book started, does this mean you're leaving too? I hope not :(

My last issue of the ongoing series is Red Sonja #18.

It’s killing me to leave, Dynamite has been wonderful and progressive, and I love Sonja like a cat loves attacking random stuff for no reason, but I just have too many other commitments that I had made prior.

But it went like this…

I was going to do just six issues. I was having a blast, so I agreed to do twelve issues. Then I agreed to do a zero issue. Then I came up with LEGENDS OF RED SONJA and did five issues of that (with some brilliant co-writers!) then I agreed to do six more issues. Then I agreed to do CONAN vs. RED SONJA.

Then I agreed to do the WOMEN OF DYNAMITE crossover, six issues PLUS lots of cool extra stuff.

ALL 100% because I fell in love with the She-Devil BAD. :)

So even though I am finishing up the ongoing book, it’s with a HUGE bang, there’s two more crossovers I am writing (Conan v Sonja and Women of Dynamite) where she is the star, and I honestly can’t imagine that that’s really the end. I am wild about that Hyrkanian and like Black Canary, I can’t seem to stay away from her!

Thank you for the kind thought, we’re not done yet!

Scripts For Baltimore Con?

Okay, I should have time this weekend to make some scripts up for the Baltimore Comic Con, as I have had about a zillion requests.

But I haven’t decided what to take yet. I have a few Movement scripts that didn’t get taken with me to Boston, so I will have a few of those, for sure.

Other than that, I need to pick four scripts, I will print thirty of each. If you are going and you would like one, I am asking everyone which title they would choose.  Birds of Prey, Action, Wonder Woman, All-new Atom, Gen13, Welcome to Tranquility, Batgirl, Tomb Raider, Red Sonja, Firestorm, JLA Classified, or pretty much anything else I have written that is the length of a standard comic (that I still have a script of, I’ve changed computers a couple times since I started!).

I am asking for choices because my brain is sleepy, and certain books are more popular in some areas than others.

I can’t guarantee everything, and there’s no obligation, but if you are going and you would like one, which would you choose for me to bring?

Thank you!

OH! And I won’t have my own table, I will be at the Dynamite booth, but I have at least two long signings every day, so no worries, and please remember that I am always delighted to sign as many books as you bring. If you bring a 100, I will sign 100, no worries.

Thanks!

BOSTON COMIC-CON DAY 3

this one’s out of order but Gail’s on tumblr right now and I really want to draw attention to the fact that this happened

These two were hilarious. Deadpool kept photobombing Superman and Huntress was just amazing.

Two of my all-time favorite babies!

Also, I was trying to make a sympathy face. :)
