Your #MyThemesAre blew up tremendously. Thank you because it helped me a lot. I enjoyed the small chat you, Jane Espenson and I had with another fellow tweeter. My question is what's your ideal format for Black Canary - film or tv and live action or animat
The answer to almost all such questions is always going to be comics. I have met several of the actresses playing Black Canary in various film things, and they’ve all been wonderful, honest. I loved them.
But it’s the comics version I love best, and I don’t see that ever changing.
I am not in comics to break into film, I like film a great deal, sometimes I love it. But I don’t think of comics as the poor cousin to film.
Comics is the medium I love best.

He’s a prince...

I just like him ok?
He’s a prince (of rats), he owns his own place, he has a styin’ hat, and he writes romantic letters. What’s not to love?
Man, Oh, Man.
Okay, many of you may know I tweet, and most of it is absolutely goony stuff not even worth reading. HOWEVER.
Sometimes, cool stuff happens.
Today on twitter, I challenged by writers friends to list the themes that drive their stories, with the hashtag #MyThemesAre
And as happens sometimes, it kind of exploded. Writers of games, movies, novels and comics all have posted the secret engines of their stories.
For me, the common themes are: 1) Search for identity, 2) escape from isolation, and 3) finding hope even in despair.
This hashtag is amazingly inspirational and sometimes thrilling, it made me want to write all day.
People like Jane Esponson, Joss Whedon, Phil Plait, Greg Pak, Bryan Q. Miller, and lots, lots more have responded with cool answers that really make you think.
Theme is what separates the craftsperson from the artist. Your work has to have something to say, it can’t just be events.
Anyway, if you are an aspiring writer, or even if you just are interested in the thinking behind the story, check out #MyThemesAre on twitter.
You guys probably know by now, I really want to help turn as many ASPIRING writers into WORKING writers as possible, that’s why I did comicssurvivalkit.tumblr.com and that’s why I started this hashtag.
It’s useful stuff, I think. Please take advantage! :)

That hair. Are you the Goblin King
I don’t know what you mean.
But you remind me of the babe.
I just finished Red Sonja Vol. 1 and I was. BLOWN. AWAY. The writing, the story, the characters (Radiant Mistress!), the art! All of it. I was so in awe of that I had to sit for awhile, in a daze, and contemplate what I had just experienced. You have m
I am so happy, thank you!
The truth about Sonja is, I have always loved fantasy and sword and sorcery comics, but so MANY of them are so damn alienating, and also of course, it’s a new genre for me.
With Sonja’s origin and costume and all that stuff, I wasn’t 100% I would be able to do her justice and be pleased with the take on it, so there was a real concern, there.
But it’s just become one of my favorite assignments ever. I love sassy, randy, thirsty, bawdy, dangerous Sonja, she’s like I WANT WHAT I WANT AND I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU WANT and that’s just a lot of fun.
I am very glad others agree!
