Dublin, Present Day… Tell me about it, only yesterday I was accosted by a man dressed in a Barney costume on Grafton Street.
Sword of Sorrows #2 is as fun as it is ridiculous. And the Tula Lotay cover is beautiful.
You know, I really appreciate this small note, because I really DID want some of this to embrace the ridiculous. I love ridiculous.
I don’t want to smirk, I want to playfully wink. and let the audience in on it, AND the characters.
I am having a blast.

It’s almost scary how into Image’s new line of indie comics we are. Gail Simone! Warren Ellis! Greg Rucka, Jason Aaron, Mark Millar, and Rafael Albuquerque! Two titles from Ron Wimberley! We want everything.
I saw some of the pages for some of these books in the green room and holy SHIT, I totally get why retailers order such huge numbers from Image.
"I keep saying this is the book that Frederic Wertham is going to jump out of his grave to bitch..."

Gail Simone, speaking to The Mary Sue about her upcoming title CrossWind (via braincoins)
HA!
I forgot I said that. :)
I haven't heard anything about Clean Room in a while? Is that still happening? Did I completely miss it?
Announcements next week! ;)
It’s still going, and it looks freaking AMAZING. Jon Davis-Hunt is a genius!
What do you think is the quintessential Wonder Woman story?
I have a bunch of favorites. The ones that spring to mind are Phil Jimenez’ great Lois interview with Diana, Greg’s Gorgon story, and I really loved Grant’s portrayal of WW in his JLA run. Those are the ones in my foggy sleepy brain right now.
Hey Gail! Do you like the Back to the Future trilogy?
i do, I thought it was a really good-hearted series. I haven’t seen it in years, so I don’t know if my memory is betraying me!
Holy crap, you guys.Okay, Image has been asking me to do a book...

Holy crap, you guys.
Okay, Image has been asking me to do a book for them for years, and I’ve always wanted to, but was either exclusive with someone else, or simply overworked. Then, I had this idea, and it would not go away.
That idea is CROSSWIND.
I found the perfect partner in Cat Staggs, a phenomenal artist who I have wanted to work with for ages. She immediately got what we needed, she elevated everything immediately. I adore her to pieces. LOOK at that freaking cover!
CROSSWIND is an thriller fantasy about two people (a suave Chicago hitman and a wallflower Seattle housewife), who have nothing in common, who are suddenly and inexplicably forced to switch their entire lives. It’s sexy, dangerous, it’s unlike anything else on the stands. It feels like it’s printed on nitro. And I dearly, dearly love it.
I can’t wait for you to read it.
A lot of body swap stories have a lot of horseshit attached in the name of humor; sexism, racism, transphobia, and gay panic and more. This is not that book. I’ll be talking more about that, soon, but I think you are going to love these characters, Cason Ray Bennett and Juniper Elanore Blue. And I think a lot of us are going to feel for the situation they find themselves placed in. Both their lives are in danger, and they have to re-assess their entire worldview while running just to survive.
I can’t wait for you to read this, it’s unlike anything either of us have done before and the art is impossibly gorgeous. I’ve been saying it’s GOODFELLAS MEETS FREAKY FRIDAY, which made my friend Greg Rucka say, “That is the most Gail Simone thing I have ever heard!”
I believe we are going to have free posters at SDCC. The response so far has been ridiculous. I AM EXCITED, YOU GUYS.
As always, thank all of you for coming on this journey with us. None of these things would ever be allowed to happen if you hadn’t supported us all along. THANK YOU.

Arrgh!Okay, so the artist I am working with on Swords of Sorrow...

Arrgh!
Okay, so the artist I am working with on Swords of Sorrow sent me a beautiful note today. He’s from Barcelona, English is not his first language and sometimes it’s a little difficult for us to communicate, but we somehow manage to agree on everything when it comes to comics. He loves drawing my scripts and I love writing for him. It’s awesome!
He sent me a note this morning saying he was having so much fun, he wanted to give me the gift of a page of original art from out book, and I should choose the one I wanted most.
Okay, I have had this happen before and it’s ALWAYS lovely and ALWAYS an impossible choice. How do you pick one page from Nicola Scott’s BOP or Secret Six, or one page from Walter Geovani’s Red Sonja? It’s impossible.
(Also I realize this is a weird thing to complain about, fabulous artist gives you an incredibly kind gesture–I promise, it’s not complaining, it’s just HOW DO I CHOOSE?).
And this time, it’s even worse because there are SO MANY characters I love! Do I want a page with Kato? Irene Adler? Miss Fury?
Do I want the page where a t. rex is trying to eat Vampirella? Where Sonja fights Woola? Or Tars Tarkas?
What about the page above where Dejah Thoris meets Red Sonja in something that has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE (ERB meeting REH!)?
I know I could ask for a page that has a ton of the characters on it, but I feel like those are the pages Sergio Davila (the artist) can sell for big bucks and I don’t wan to deprive him of that.
ACK!.
If you’ve been reading Swords of Sorrow, help! What do I pick?
:)
