Is their any really obscure characters that you'd like to try to revamp or modernize? Like these characters are so obscure or goofy that they were listed in the book of failed superheroes is what I'm referring to.
Mary Marvel is the big one, and I’m working with Ralph Dibny. There was a character called the GRIM GHOST I really liked that was brought back recently and they asked me to write it, but I was exclusive with DC and they didn’t feel they could let me write six issues for a start-up company, which I totally get.
Hmm.
Tiger Man, Infectious Lass, Doll Man…
what's the possibility of you becoming dc's chief creative officer someday? i have no problem with geoff johns but you are magical.
That is very kind, but i have no interest in such a position. It requires skills I don’t have. It’s a complicated job and I really am not cut out for that sort of thing. I enjoy overseeing projects sometimes, but mostly I just like the smaller team that works on one book together.

Birds of Prey vol.2 #10
It’s weird, I always have a blast writing Catwoman, but have never had much interest in writing her book, though I have been asked a few times.
Fun to write, not sure I have enough to say about her to take on that assignment.

It seems like forever ago that I reviewed the beginning of Gail Simone’s Red Sonja
run. (It was actually only about a year and a half, but that’s like an
eternity in blog years.) I was slow on the draw with the series - I
didn’t pick it up until the second printing of the first issue came out -
but I fell pretty hard for it once I started reading it. Simone was
originally only signed on to do 6 issues, but the series proved so
popular that she ended up staying on through issue 18,
as well as orchestrating and writing a huge event called Swords of
Sorrow that featured Sonja and the rest of Dynamite’s leading ladies
like Vampirella and Dejah Thoris. While I know that Simone has her own
life to lead and will certainly still be providing us with excellent
stories elsewhere, it was bittersweet picking up issue 18 last week, and
her Sonja voice will certainly be missed.
Vague spoilers for the series ahead.
Thank you so much for this lovely review.
I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into that book, it’s one of my favorite writing assignments ever, and I fell hard for the She-Devil in a way I never expected. I am so glad it meant something to so many, and also that Walter Geovani got the respect he so richly deserves for his beautiful art.

That awkward moment you realize Bane in the Dark Knight Rises was acting like the Papa Bear to the dangerous assassin daughter of an immortal warlord. It’s quite Scadal-ous.
Yes, I most definitely notices. ;)

A while ago Gail Simone posted a sequence that was cut from Villains United #5 here and I decided that I needed to draw it. I one page ages ago but have only actually got around to finishing the second one.
There is actually a page before these two but I was doing these as much for my portfolio as anything so since the first page is a splash page (although is does establish the scene) I didn’t do it (plus in a hard-copy portfolio a two page sequence opposite each other always looks better).
Not sure if I achieved everything I set out to and there are some things that could probably do with changing (Parademon is standing much too ow in that last panel, for example) but there’s a lot I like too. Plus I very nearly drew some cars too. *ahem*

A happy ending. I’d forgotten they existed.

I can’t even explain how hard I fell in love with the She-Devil. She’s just become one of my favorite characters ever, and working with the amazing Walter Geovani has been a non-stop delight. I loved every moment of it.

So, remember the CatMan mask I made a few months ago? Well, we decided I should Cross-Play CatMan. And thus, CatMa'am was born. I’ll be at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo on Saturday Sept 26, 2015.
KAI!
You were so fricking adorable!
It was great to meet you, worth going just for that!
