Red Sonja
Gail Simone: Don’t worry, Red Sonja will be in good hands!
Me: Pfft, sure, I’m probably going to drop it anyway
Dynamite Comics: Marguerite Bennett is writing Red Sonja!
Me: I SHOULD NOT HAVE DOUBTED GAIL SIMONE
I TOLD YA!
:)
Marguerite is a shiny diamond and she’s going to make Sonja the best EVER.

Red Sonja #7
Okay, finding places where...

Red Sonja #7
Okay, finding places where Sonja goes a little overboard with her love of beer seems to be a little too easy. Still fun, though.
Sonja likes her tipple.
I'm mostly just curious. But if you were ever offered to write an Elseworlds story about a grown up superhero Lian Harper would you? And if you had to pick an artist for it who would it be? :)
It’s possible, no ideas leap to mind, but I do like Lian.
Elseworlds is not really a going concern at DC right now, they are letting the concept take a nap for a while.
I am looking forward to the new Dynamite series, but O please tell me that John Carter's own series will still go on (ideally with more beefcake because I like beefcake) too?
My understanding is that John Carter is continuing!
Ever thought of writhing a vigilante (western) story? Just wondering because he one of my favorites but he is super obscure i thought you can write because he had a cameo in justice league unlimited
I love the Prarie Troubadour. I would love to write a story about him, I always felt he was what would happen if Hank Williams fought crime.
Not sure if that is likely to happen in the new52, though. :(

ANNOUNCED TODAY: NYCC: Simone, Scott Revamp Red...

ANNOUNCED TODAY: NYCC: Simone, Scott Revamp Red Sonja, Vampirella & Dejah Thoris for Dynamite!
Including Marguerite Bennett and Aleka on Red Sonja, Frank Barbiere writing Dejah Thoris (artist not yet revealed) and MYSELF writing VAMPIRELLA, with an also as-of-yet unrevealed artist!
This is the new costume design from Nicola Scott for Vampi! I could not be more excited about helming this series - y’all know how I feel about sexy vampires. Her new outfit will appear as she continues her monster-hunting calling, but fear not, we will also see the classic ensemble from time to time. It’s going to be fun, sexy, scary and weird. I can’t wait to show you more - the art is already coming in and it is gooorgeous. HUGE thanks to Gail Simone for bringing me into this gig and just generally being rad!
You are going to rock it so hard!
OH MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS.We finally get to talk!...

OH MY GOD I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS.
We finally get to talk! We’ve been planning this for AGES.
Okay, here’s the thing. We have been planning, at Dynamite Comics, an important step forward for pulp heroines.
I have been calling it the MONSTER MAKEOVER.
It’s a series of exciting new creative directions for the top three DYNAMITE heroines, with brand new amazing writers, stunning artists, and all designed by the best designer in the business, NICOLA SCOTT!
I don’t even know where to start. I’m excited. :)
I got to hand-pick the teams, and I gave them a starting direction, but the people we picked are unbelievable, and are KILLING it.
First, RED SONJA, my beloved redhead that I love so much, is going to be written by the AMAZING Marguerite Bennett, possibly the hottest new writer going, with beautiful, adorable art by the wonderful ANEKA. This is a whole new look for Sonja, with an INTENSE new direction. I literally can’t think of anyone I would rather have take over this title. This is going to be one of THE books for 2016. If you like A-Force, or BOMBSHELLS, you HAVE to see what Marguerite can do with the She-Devil!
Next, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, VAMPIRELLA will go through a thrilling and hilarious new direction, totally modern…fun, funny, scary and sexy, as written by the one and only KATE LETH. We aren’t announcing the artist yet (it’s a secret) but Kate is one of the most exciting talents in comics today. She’s killing it on every book she’s working on and this is her dream project!
Finally, the wonderfully talented FRANK BARBIERE will take over Dejah Thoris in a story I am especially proud of and can’t wait to read…the Princess of Mars loses EVERYTHING and has to reinvent herself as a woman with no family and no country, it’s almost a Miyazaki-like story, and Frank is going to DEMOLISH on this book. :)
Wrap all of that up in brand new designs for all the characters, as designed by the GREAT NICOLA SCOTT.
There’s still secrets left to reveal, but all of these books are brand new FRESH STARTS for the characters, you don’t have to have any prior knowledge at all. Just a love of thrills, fun, violence, and badassery!
I am really, REALLY excited. I don’t think this has ever been done with pulp heroines. Some hints appear in SWORDS OF SORROW, but you don’t need to have read ANY previous stories to enjoy these.
I love the high adventure of pulp heroines. Now we have teams to bring them into this century, and I could NOT be happier.
MONSTER MAKEOVER!
What was your favourite comic to work on, and which comic would you most like to write for?
My two FUNNEST books to work on were without question Birds of Prey and Red Sonja, followed probably by Deadpool and Agent X. In all those cases, the books were not doing all that well so there was a lot of freedom to try things and have fun. Deadpool and Birds of Prey were both about to be cancelled when I took them over and both became hits, and I think part of the reason why is that we had so much fun making them and it was a bit infections.
Other books I have been very proud of, I was very proud of the early Wonder Woman stuff, and Welcome to Tranquility, but they were much harder books by comparison.
I’d love to write the Marvel family, or Spider-man.
How does it feel like to be considered the best authoress (or at least one of the best) in the comic book industry today?
I feel very fortunate that people like my work, that’s a pretty rare gift to have readers give you.
Other than that, I don’t worry about it much. I don’t feel I compete with anyone, of any gender, that’s just not where I feel my efforts belong. I am happy doing what weird little thing I do and am happy for the success of others.
It’s very nice when you work on something and put your heart into it, and there are people out there who want to read it, that’s the best feeling, I swear.
