Dear Mrs Simone, when you say you can't look at fan fiction of Dc Comics, does this include fan comic books? Like, are you barred from reading JL8, for example?
I don’t know what JL8 is, but I think DC would likely prefer I avoid fancomics of their intellectual property.
I think short parody pieces and satirical things, those are likely totally fine. But if someone did a Batman fancomic, it would likely not be a good idea for me (or other pros) to read it, unless it was specifically an audition piece.
I know, it doesn’t all make sense. But basically, it’s to protect us and the company. A lot of people have very, very weird ideas about the unassailable wonderfulness of their fan work, and are under the delusion that pros desperately need to steal ideas from them. It’s nonsense, we got into this to write OUR ideas, not someone else’s.
Anyway, since we don’t know if someone is rational or not, we can’t really take that chance. It kinda sucks, but most of us don’t have time to look anyway, sadly.
I just want to say sorry in the name of all arrow fans , we love you and sorry for harassing you with stupid questions and stuff
It’s fine, please don’t worry about it. I find it mostly pretty funny and most of the Arrow people mean well. It’s just a smaller group of cranks who seem obsessed with me watching the show even though I don’t watch television much.

'There's nothing like it in comics' … how Love and Rockets broke the rules
“I was an enormous fan,” says Neil Gaiman, the multi-award-winning author and graphic novelist. “I still am. I don’t really understand why the material of Love and Rockets isn’t widely regarded as one of the finest pieces of fiction of the last 35 years. Because it is.”
“I grew up on a very, very remote farm in an incredibly white part of the Oregon coast,” remembers comic writer Gail Simone. “As a kid, the first issue of Love and Rockets I saw astonished me not just with its visual and storytelling mastery, but with the worlds it focused on – characters of every shape and background, from women selling babosas barefooted to sexy, smart mechanic girlfriends. I’d never experienced anything like it, and that’s because there is nothing else like it.”
I just want to say sorry we bother u so much on Arrow, its just this is a legacy character and most of us loved what u did with BC in BoP and since you're one of the people involved creating her we feel like the arrow writers completely disrespect and shit
I understand that fans take the show very seriously, I totally get that, but I get as many as (I kid you not) a HUNDRED emails and dms about ARROW every single day. Every day.
And I have seen a total of one episode.
I am not going to condemn it OR praise it until I actually watch it, you know? It’s too weird.
Have you noticed a decline or increase in comic sales in the last few years?
Both. Sales are up 6% overall from the previous year, but I think that there is more product, so each individual book sells a little less.
Do you find it amusing (in a sad way) that two sides of the Arrow fandom are fighting for your attention/support?
It’s a little weird, I still have no idea what most of them are yelling about.
I highly doubt that DC wants this type of person having a negative effect on their public image, and it's one of the writers. I was told to ask you for help. This person argued with me on one form of social media until I blocked him, then tracked me down o
I have no idea what the response is to something like this. Good luck.
So, if I've been bullied online by one of DC's writers, who would I report that person to?
I have no idea, human resources, maybe?
I don't mean this in a critical or mean way... but how can you not watch Arrow? I mean, they even use characters you created. Like, your work is a huge influence on the show and you don't even know.
I just don’t watch much television, it’s nothing against ARROW in particular. I saw the first episode and it seemed pretty promising, but I’m always flying somewhere or behind on a deadline.
I grew up on a farm without television, and so I never really picked up the habit of following shows for long periods.
Do you think there's a chance for a DC tv show (maybe birds of prey or gotham city sirens or nightwing) on netflix ? I know rn, its mainly the marvel tv show platform and DC is very protective over their bat characters so idk if we'll ever see nightwing, c
It will not happen on Netflix any time soon. Netflix and Marvel have a long-range partnership. But it could happen elsewhere!
