Hey gail, rememebr when you defended that make fan against angry tumblers? Well honey badger radio just unfairly insulted you saying you complained about him. I spoke up but thought you should know they bashed you without looking into the truth

I am not sure I totally understand this. I don’t know what honey badger radio is.

But if this is about that Deadpool fan in the line for the movies, I absolutely did NOT insult him.  When I posted that the ‘event’ happened, I posted a TON of tweets saying I didn’t think it was misogyny, that he was just excited and I was next to him in line. I thought it was kind of adorable and didn’t think another thought about it.  But no one reposted all those tweets, just the one where I said it happened.

Then it went ridiculously viral with people on both sides making a federal case out of it, and I repeatedly tried to make it clear that I had ZERO ill feelings for the guy, he was just an excited Deadpool fan who couldn’t stop talking about Deadpool while waiting in line to see the movie. I thought it was cute, not sexist or hurtful.

It’s a very strange thing to watch these tiny little nothings grow into something much bigger, despite trying to get the truth out there over and over.

A cute thing happened in a movie line, that’s not much of a story, I guess. If these people are trying to say I insulted this guy, they are full of shit. I defended him endlessly and was never even slightly mad.

Will you ever be a guest on Kevin Smith's podcast/youtube show Fatman on Batman?

He has very kindly been asking me for years, but I have never been in SoCal with enough time to spare to go do it. Maybe this year.

On Asian Stereotypes

67ae:

Someone once told me, “You’re lucky, you’re Asian. Your stereotypes are all positive, like all Asians are smart, or all Asians are good at math.”

Do you know the problem with Asian stereotypes?

The problem is that when I get an A on a test, people say, “Oh, she’s Asian, of course she got an A”.

The problem is that when our badminton team won state, people said, “Oh, they’re Asian, of course they’re good at badminton”.

The problem is that when my sister got into MIT, I heard people saying, “Well, she’s Asian, so of course she got into MIT”.

When my friend wins a piano competition, people said he won because “all Asians are good at piano.”

But that’s not right.

I got an A on that test because I did my homework every day and studied for hours.

Our badminton team won state because we train 9 hours a week, all year round.

My sister got into MIT because she spent hours agonizing over her essays, because she stayed up ridiculously late doing homework and studying for tests.

Yes, I agree, a lot of the Asians I know are very smart, and many Asians excel in music and extracurriculars. Do you know why? It’s because of their parents, who yell at them when their grades drop, when they don’t practice enough. It’s the hours spent crying, the times you consider cheating because you don’t have time to study. It’s your bleeding fingers and aching shoulders, but you haven’t practiced enough.

Because when we don’t succeed, all we hear is countless people telling us, “You’re Asian, aren’t Asians supposed to be smart?” “Aren’t Asians supposed to be good at piano?” “Aren’t Asians supposed to succeed at everything without trying?”

Do not invalidate our hard work by saying our achievements are a result of our ethnicity.

Howdy howdy :) My wife and I are super excited to see you at MegaCon this year!! I know you don't let people reserve your scripts in advance anymore (assuming you're bringing some! I hope so!!), so I was wondering what your first day at the con will be? I'

I can’t wait to meet you!  This is very exciting.

I will be there every day, I will be there much of each day, but not all day. I will have a complete schedule both here and online.  We no longer reserve scripts because it seemed to cause hard feelings sometimes, so absolutely the best bet is to come along some time the first day of the con. You don’t have to wait in line to get one, just tell the tall blonde dude next to me (Hi, Rocketspouse!) which you want of what we have available and he will take care of it for you. Cool?  :)

Hey Gail. Have you ever worked with an artist, who added his or her own little contribution in the art that made you say: "Damn, I wish I thought of that!"? Just curious.

Oh, sure, my big one right now is Jon Davis Hunt, in Clean Room. He CONSTANTLY adds to the design ideas, improves them immensely. And Nicola Scott was always adding a great bit of body language.
