Look at what I got over the week! ^_^
Review is coming up shortly! Just need to find an awesome pic! ^_^
This picture is ALREADY the most awesome thing ever!
Hi Gail! I got into reading comics through Birds of Prey, particularly through Sensei and Student. You just totally understand these girls, especially Dinah. Since Babs just made an appearance on BoP and is a guest star in the 4th issue, is Dinah slated to
This is a little bit tricky…the circumstances of my leaving Bop were not exactly the most pleasant experience ever, so it's a little raw still, thinking about writing any of the Birds just this moment. I'll get over it, I love them too much, but it's a little sore right now.
I will say however, that Duane S., the new guy writing Bop, could NOT be any nicer and seems to have a real plan for the girls, and I am really happy about that. I hope he has a classic run and brings the books to new heights.
Long way around of saying probably nothing more than scattered Birds cameos in Batgirl at best, at least for a while. Sorry! And thank you!

Reading your comments about Marvel heroines--it's nice to imagine you writing Armor, from the X-Men.
I am so behind on X-men I'm not even sure who that is.
But I've been very intrigued by recent buzz about X-men, I'd like to learn about them again. Not sure where to start!
I read your "Brutal Tips" post (which I cannot appreciate more) and, as a prospective writer, I have a question. To get exposure, you mention a writer should have something in comic form, saying "the art needn't be perfect." I'm a terrible (read: horrible)
Team up with an artist is the best answer. I know that's not always easy, but that's why they are brutal tips and not super-lovely-squishy tips. ;) There are so many on Tumblr and Deviantart and elsewhere…I think it's probably easier to do this now than it ever has been in the past. But I suspect it's still difficult.
The point is to be able to show you understand the language of comics. I've seen people make books with essentially stick figures. It may work, but even a half-talented artist is a better bet. Good luck!

That picture is lovely.
I've seen several Knockout cosplayers and most of them are tall women, like famed Canadian cosplayer and tv star Liana Kerzner (whom Liana in Secret Six is based upon).
But I'm at Geek Girl Con (which is fricking AMAZING…the first female-aimed geek con I've ever attended, it's like a miracle, I swear to god), and there's this tiny, petite and lovely young lady cosplaying Knockout here with a great costume and attitude…it's completely adorable but a real shock every time I bump into her.
It makes me want to create a powerhouse brick of a female character is just barely tops five feet!
First off can I say how absolutely lovely it was to meet both you and your husband (who is the sweetest man on the planet, might I add) at GeekGirlCon. The moment I heard you were coming I knew I absolutely had to be at this convention (not to mention that the convention itself seemed like such an amazing idea) and you were wonderful and thoughtful and so amazingly approachable and pleasant. Thank you for making a great convention even more amazing. :)
As the Knockout cosplayer it means a lot to me that you liked the costume. Knockout is such a great character and I've always loved her and jumped at the opportunity to make her costume. I did struggle a bit initially with the thought though, since I am far shorter/tinier than Knockout is, but I'm super happy that it came off well. :)
That said it would be amazing to have a strong and short female character. I'm so used to seeing heroes and heroines (and villains and everything in between) that are looming over everyone. I've even had conversations with people where characters are described as the runts of the superhero community for being 5'8".
And now that I've mini ranted, EVERYONE YOU SHOULD REALLY COME TO GEEKGIRLCON IF YOU'RE ABLE. I'll save my glowing praises for a con report later on.
Meeting you was an absolute joy. Seeing you carry off not one, but two of my favorite characters (that I don't get to write anymore) was amazing and a little sad at the same time!
Also, my husband says to ignore that jerk who walked by and if anyone gives you crap like that again to call and hubby will go teach them some manners. :)
Love your work, Gail! Do you know when we'll see Catman again? Will he be a villain again or will he be the dark, brutal hero we know he's meant to be? Most importantly: will he be shirtless?
The answer to that last question is FUCK YEAH SHIRTLESS CATMAN!
The rest I don't know yet…I wanted to have Catman and Scandal in issue four of Batgirl, but they have asked us to focus on newer villains for a while.
I think Catman is an anti-hero/demi-villain. He doesn't fit any category, really.
And thanks!
I Caught A Bug
I want to write some Marvel heroines. I was looking at some comics in one of the retailer bins and it just had all my favorite Marvel female characters; Kitty Pryde, Storm, Rogue, She-Hulk, even the Daughters of the Dragon (which I immediately bought, by the way, GO COLLEEN AND MISTY!).
I'm not as familiar with a lot of the newer characters…I haven't read anything with Spider-Girl, or Rescue, or some of the other, more recent characters.
Not sure if it'll ever happen, but writing a Kitty book would be pretty much my idea of Heaven. Kitty was the first girl in comics since Mary Marvel (who was of a much different time) who really FELT like a girl to me. She kept me reading comics.
That would be pretty sweet.
