this is fucking terrible,

but i also hope that every time a trans* woman is treated like shit (or sexually assaulted in "men's" jail, like you know, 58% or so of trans* female inmates, whatever) in prison, the story gets at least this many reblogs from trans* men and their allies

THIS, Y'ALL

Oh my fucking god.

Read this story.

The Leadership Blog: "No Niggers Please" Sparks a Revolution at MSU

The Leadership Blog: "No Niggers Please" Sparks a Revolution at MSU:

theleadershipblog:

Hello!

I am blogging you to inform you, if you have not been informed already, about the several racial incidents that have occurred on campus during this past week.

1) On Wednesday of last week,  The phrase "No Niggers Please! :)" was written on the outside of a black girl's dorm room door erase board. The girl, who was extremely in shock, was moved across campus within a hour by the Hall director.

2) A few days later, a black doll was found in the Bio-medical Science Building hung by a homemade noose, made out of green Mardi Gras beads.

Several other racial slurs and terms have been vandalized on walls in several residence halls during this week and according to students the faculty in the buildings wash the slurs away and refuse to do anything about it.

A week after the first incident, today, the President of Michigan State University sent a campus wide email generally informing all students about the racial incidents that have been occurring. She then proceeds to say that she supports the first amendment right even though it may offend most people. The email showcased no compassion or remorse towards any of the students that were attacked.

Tonight, the Black Student Alliance, held an Emergency Town Hall meeting entitled "Stop Racism". Hundreds of students of all different races, though mainly black, came together to discuss the incidents that were going on campus, share testimonies and experiences with racism on campus, and lift their voices to hopefully spark a revolution; and yes a spark was created.

The energy within the meeting was historic. I just want to share one quote with you by the opening speaker:

"If action is not taken then we will shake this campus to its core with our voices."

All Multi-Racial groups on campus are saying "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" and I'm happy to say that a Revolution is approaching.

I just…  no.

ohh kayyy. not applying for any more jobs at MSU. What douchebaggery is this?

Good lord. The weight of ignorance and petty meanness threatens to destroy everything.

APE IN A CAPE: Lovely Moment At The Airport

APE IN A CAPE: Lovely Moment At The Airport:

blackalice:

gailsimone:

This happened yesterday and it's been on my mind quite a bit.

Comics fame is is a weird, fake kind of fame, for which I am very grateful. It's like being famous in the world of model trains or something. You go to a con, everyone knows you and you can't even go to the bathroom without someone…

Sounds, based on what you describe, that she really connects with the characters you both write and create. When she said "thank you for my characters" she probably means "thank you for creating such meaningful characters that I connect with!"

That would be a delightful possibility.

When readers feel they own the characters you write and create, that's pretty magical. MISERY is about the extreme, obviously, but a little ownership is quite nice to see. When readers bring their own talent and creativity (making their own fiction and art, their own crafts and cosplay, etc) to the characters, it's almost a little bit of an immortal feeling. Not of the creator, but for the characters.

And believe me, to have your characters live on, that's a wonderful feeling.

Magical Girl Bane!

Because this is something the internet needed.

Tumblr justified in one single image.

I hereby declare today, "Huntress Day!"

dcwomenkickingass:

The first issue of Huntress, the mini by Paul Levitz and Marcus To is out today and to celebrate, I have declared today "Huntress Day!", a celebration of things Helena Bertinelli.

First let's all look at this lovely portrait of Huntress by Cat Staggs:

And this stunning portrait by Steve Rude:

And this sexy one by Adam Hughes:

Did they get you ready to celebrate? Good! Repeat after me:

"Huntress, Huntress, Huntress!"

Some days, she's absolutely my favorite character in comics.

The art on this mini is so gorgeous it's incredible.

Question Of The Day

For those who are following the New 52, I'm curious. Everywhere I ask this question, the titles trend differently, leading credence to the theory that different social media attract differently-opinioned readers.

So my question for Tumblr is, which five of the 52 are your favorites so far?

No worries if you like my books or don't, doesn't matter, just curious about the five books that made you the most excited for the next issue.

-draw some male and female characters being normal-sized. :-/sorry for the rambling... Just trying to make sense of the sexification double standard of male bs. Female characters. And a final thought, yeah, it's a comic but as I was notified up here by a

I don't think it needs to be made sense of…there has been some improvement in this area but there are still some goofy gender issues regarding portrayal, including costumes.

I don't need a costume to be practical, I think that's a dead end argument. If these characters really existed, I suspect some would be wearing costumes that made them FEEL confident and powerful, and for some, that's going to mean heels, or armor, or exposed skin, or a manga-esque look, or something.

But it has to fit the character in some way. It doesn't make sense for Kitty Pryde or Donna Troy to wear a thong and pasties. But I can definitely see Power Girl's boob window. It fits her established character.

Still, if we had guys dressed that way more often, it would take some of the sting out.

Gonna head to bed but before I go I've got a last question: Just wondering what your views are on some of these new DCnU redesigns and the really weird Starfire and Catwoman being "a bit too revealing" and being "too sexy", I guess, controversy in the rebo

I am not crazy about all the costumes. Some I love, some I don't, I think that's probably how most people are going to react.

The costume changes provide a bit of a visual freshener, though, that much does make sense to me.

Is Catwoman's costume that much more revealing? When she isn't flying out windows with half of it unzipped, I mean? I don't have the issue yet.

I'm not a fan of Starfire's new costume yet. I hope they modify it to something a little more distinctive.
