One Last Question Of Kisses

…WHO and WHY?

DC Women Kicking Ass: Top 10 things not to say to a female reader of superhero comics

DC Women Kicking Ass: Top 10 things not to say to a female reader of superhero comics:

dcwomenkickingass:

Just sayn'

1. The people who read superhero comics are men and sex sells. If you don't like it don't read the comics.

So why is the top selling comics of 2011 a book that has no female characters in it? Or why are the Batman books the top selling books when they rarely feature any female…

The difference between now and even eight years ago for female superhero readers is enormous.

I hope, in five years, this list won't even make sense anymore.

I actually had a couple people complain that Scandal breaking down here meant she was showing weakness.  I don't see it that way at all, in context.

Okay. A Question Just For Fun

Without a lot of detail, if you could write ONE DC book with ONE still-living artist, what and who would you choose?

Preview of Huntress #1

dcwomenkickingass:

How beautiful is this art? This almost makes up for that other book starring a chick. ALMOST.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pretty.

I talked with Paul Levitz about this at SDCC. I think it's going to be really good. I can't wait, and yet, I am SO JEALOUS of Paul getting to do a nice, meaty mini-series of Helena.

DC…BRING.THEM. BACK!

YAY!

This was so much fun. I said on my message board that it would be awesome to see the Secret Six done in the style of the Tiny Titans. One of the posters, and AMAZING artist named Amanda Gould, did a bunch of beautiful sketches of just that.

It became my mission to get the Tiny Sixers in the actual Secret Six comic. It was complicated, but my editor, Sean Ryan, really came through and so Amanda Gould got her first DC cred and knocked it WAY out of the park. I believe Nicola Scott offered some practical advice.

Amanda was so good, I later used her to draw a piece for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund book and she nailed THAT, too.

I hope I can get her back at DC at some point. She's amazing.

This isn't an ask or a question, really, I just want to let you know you, Dwayne, Perry Moore and Greg Rucka have all touched me with your writing. Each one of you-Mr. McDuffie and Mr. Moore, included, has blessed you all with beautiful writing talents and

Thank you, those three have had a profound effect on my life as well.

I used to have access to all three of those wonderful guys pretty much any time I wanted to talk to them and it meant so, so much. Now we have lost two of them, and the third doesn't work at DC currently, and it did make DC a lot lonelier for me for a while.

I'll talk about Perry at some point, he was a magnificent pain in the neck that you couldn't help but love. I adored him and he drove people crazy, generally by telling them truths they didn't want to hear.

Greg is still every bit the Greg Rucka you want him to be. I can't wait for him to come back to DC at some point…he suggested we write something together and it just sounded so fun I was crestfallen that it didn't work out. Love that guy.

Sigh.
